To do what? Low level format, partition, format, test?

to make the drive usable ,it would do all of the above you mention depending on what you wanted to do .program like maxblast for maxtor drives

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

lol i get it now ,i would just connect another keyboard to it before looking as you may not see much ,also if the mouse is working ok then it may not be the connection as both are usually affected by bad dry connection

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

the drivers are not for the hard drive, but for the sata controller on the motherboatd

a quote from you first post

I am trying to make a driver floppy for my Western digital 80 gig sata hd

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

the drivers are not for the hard drive, but for the sata controller on the motherboatd

and the file should be on the mother board disk

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i would have use the hard drive makers disk utility ,downloaded and put on a bootable cd

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

not sure if i understand the question, "IBM/Lenovo PC". Please forgive..as far as internal computer literacy, I'm about a "5" on a scale of 1-10. I'm pretty sure that my machine is "IBM" based. It's basically a "Compaq" brand with a 346 processor that i bought from Circuit City. I don't have it in front of me at the moment do don't quote me on that processor. It's something close to that though. Probably on the lower end as far as capabilities.

check event viewer for error info ,when you get there check system on the left.
type this into RUN .
eventvwr.msc

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I'm sorry, I probably didn't make it clear. The process that's showing 99 when I hit ctrl-alt-dlete is "System". A lot of people confuse this with "System Idle Process". Two different things. From other posts that I've been reading on the internet, it appears that when "system" is reading 99, then there is some other internal hardware or driver issue. my problem is exactly pinpointing what that issue is after I've tried all that other stuff listed in my initial post.

yes you did i missed it ,anyway does it show a, image name [ ie: like winlogon.exe. using the cpu ],as on my computer, system ,shows in the user name category

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

actually i got it working.. i got the driver from a dell site.. and it works just fine.

caperjack:
windows update isnt providing me with much

so it gave no hardware updates ,can you tell me if this onboard network or a addin pci network card .onboard plug will be higher up on the back of tower near the usb plugs and pci nic will be lower down on the back of tower .also i don't think belarc is best program to tell you whats in the box ,download and run Everest from link below ,and check out network settings in the left panel .

My OS is Win XP 2
Dell Inspiron 7500

I had to reinstall windows to get it to work again. The trojan is gone BUT the shortcuts still do not work.l

did you do a complete full reinstall ,or just a repair install ,by complete i mean did you loose all you current programs and data ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

unplug keyboard and make sure all pins are straight and plugged in properly, could be problem with the ps2 connection on the motherboard ,borrow a keyboard before you buy one just in case ,if its the ps2 plug you may want to buy a USB wired keyboard, but its most likely a faulty keyboard .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

copy or type this into start/RUN--- eventvwr.msc
go to system on the left and check for error messages it may tell you more .I think the problem with a program that isn't shutting down properly .

also it could be a problem with your ram ,get and scan ram with windows mem test ,not the best one but will do and is easy to use

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Can it be recognized?

i don't under stand the question ,sorry, please explain

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i would go to windows updates and do the custom scan , check for hardware driver updates ,it might have one for the nic.
it it a pci device or onboard nic.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

going against forum policy here ,hijackthis logs are to be posted in the security section !

don't think directx will be the problem ,its with the chat room and you would be best served if you asked in the chat room ,one would think .
I don't so chat room and web cams ,but do remember a few years back helping with someone who did had the problem was with setting up the chat program and the webcam !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

yes that info is usually in the registry ,not so much what it put there, as it is what it didn't remove when it was unistalled !
you can go to regedit ,and do a search for said program and delete all found ,but beware regedit is dangerous place when deleting .

running 98 and have the same issue I can't get off the blue screen however my cd drive stopped working so i have no way to run the cd. Laptop is used for internet only - does anyone have any suggestions as to being able to run the chkdsk/f from where i am. have tried to shut down and reboot multiple time and to F8 out of the start up???????????????????

go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and download file for a win98 boot disk [floppy] boot computer with and run scandisk ,chkdsk /f is winxp command .scandisk for win98 .you will need a floppy disk for this to work .the download when clicked on it will create the floppy disk

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

fine w/e

also, you can get windows updates without using windows update - just find the updates you need by googling and download them or altervatively use a program called WUD

I am a very argumentative person but i will stop here,by saying just one more thing ,they are not looking for windows updates they are looking to get network working .you suggested they use custom windows updates to see if it had a driver update for there onboard nic ,so it has nothing to do with Windows update download program ,it will not download the nic driver for them ! that it i said enough !!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

using a flash drive or cd duh

please explain .as the windows updates need to scan the computer to find the nic in question to didplay a updated driver ,so they would need to connect to the internet on the computer .also they tried reloading drives and tried installing a pci nic

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

usurped .

now if i new that word i may have a suggestion .what was it suppose to be

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

vista has problems with some nvidia chipset network controllers , so i assume xp does too. check MS update for hotfixes (use custom not express)

that is a sound idea but they lost there network connection ,any ideas how they will getto windows updates !
i have had this problem with onbaord nics before but i have a usb -nic hub to get on and got to windows update to get he drivers ,also strange why the pci nic didn't work .something strange going on.
also you don't need to disable it in the bios as it can be disable in the device manager ,i have onboard and a pci device and do it that way

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

try right clicking on the file and choose "open with" ,choose from the list the program you want to use to open the file

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

You using IE or Firefox caperjack? Try it with the other browser, IE can run it in the browser itself, Firefox needs the download.

okI used ie6 to do it ,loaded the activex and it said max 512 ,installed 1024,now i had two 1 gig stick in last week.
i think my motherbaord says it takes up to 4 gig .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Made you look, did I? :) Option was added in SP2 and is very useful on BSOD reboots, especially those caused by a corrupt registry hive.

yup ,i have two computers running and just rebooted one ,cant believe i didn't see that there before as i use f8 a lot guess i just missed it .thanks

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Also consider using this website:
http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/loader.aspx?Agree=Yes
Download the scanner, run it and you will see what types of RAM you can use with your machine, and how much each slot can take. You can buy RAM from crucial as well if you want to.

i use the scan and it says i have 2 -512mb pc3200 true ,it says i have, 1024mb -true
but says maximum memory capacity is 524288 MB can this be true 5 hundred and 24 thousand megs of ram!!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

unless it was burnt in multisession mode ,but that still only make the empty part of the disk usable ,the files on it can't be changed .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I'm referring to disabling restart on error from Boot Options (F8) screen NOT within Safe Mode. Changing behavior on error from within XP won't work if you can't boot in Safe Mode.

never seen that in the options before until now ,sorry

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

You could buy 2 sticks for under US$50.00.

please show me a link to site selling it that cheap

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

If you have XP SP2 installed, press F8 for boot options and disable reboot on error. That option is not available on boot menu prior to SP2.

Then, you may be able to see what the error is and post details here.

that sounds familiar ,but wit less detail

WOW,"giving me a 2.44 instead of a 2.2" what a increase .not to debunk overclocking but as always i don't get it ,i wouldn't notice any difference in performance with that increase .i just upped a 1.7 i had to 2.8 for $35.00 ,bough a used 2.8 and the board was capable of taking it .now that increase i noticed !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague
