I've just tried running norton disk from boot up and it only scans for 1 second and says it's checking A drive..nightmare

not sure what nortons will do for the drive ,did you get to format the drive ,and then get the errors when you tried to install .

i use ccleaner's tool option to remove program and it works for me. it may also work for you .www.ccleaner.com

They open in ie because you have it set as default browser ,they popup because of spyware ,i looked at the log ,don't see much ,but i did stop studing logs a long time back now ,i suggest you download AVG antiSpyware program and scan with it .http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-spyware/us/frt/0

ide or a sata harddrive .if sata you may need to hit f6 when installing to install sata controller drivers .if so they are usually found on the motherboard disk

have you tried it without norton 360 installed .

i have no clue as to whats happening to you ,but its most likely a combination of video card driver and directx version .
suggestion,pick up a cheap small used hardrive ,do fresh windows install on it and load the game as the first program to load ,and use the directx from the disk

actually I'm really not sure as i have never used media center nor install it ! but I would try a regular one anyway ,it might work and should cause no problems if it don't

Forgive the obvious question, the computer is about 5 yrs old. i wasn't sure an os that old could still be purchased from retailers. I hesitate to take the computer to a shop because you always get a bill, but not always help.

you say you have recovery cds but no disk for you present os ,so im assuming you had win98/ME install but now have winxp ,correct me if im wrong .i will go and reread you first post .

there are bios limits for big hdd. not sure what yours is ,so it maybe that you bios doesn't recognize the bigger hdd.

Don't bite please ,correct me as i could be wrong but don't think I am ,if you have 4 slots 2 different colors ,like black and blue ,or black and yellow,if all 4 are black its a older[or cheaper] board and you will have to check manual as to what 2 to use for ddr mode . if you put 2 stick in the first two slots one black and one blue ,the computer will still boot ,but will not be in DDR mode .

Edit: also who makes you mommyboard ,and just because they are bot pc3200 don't make them a match ,same maker and same # all round on the chips make them a pair

if you have a full version of winxp you can do a repair install ,others here don't suggest it but i do it all the time on motherboard changes .

in this part of you post you mention overclocking from the manufacture ,then ask how could i get over clocking message on a new board ,maybe you board is also pre -overclocked ,i don't like amd never have ,i would switch to Intel if i were you .just my opinion !!also i have read of many problems with the newer x2 chips and boards .

Crucial Techs scanner works for me :P
I used it to find out what i had, and then go and buy the correct elsewhere. Crucial weren't the cheapest that i found for 2Gb of PC3200 RAM.

when you plug a usb device like a thumbdrive or printer or keyboard do they work ,as its not normal for all usb ports to show in mycomputer as drives ,unless a storage device like a thumbdrive or external harddrive ,or a camera is plugged into one .

Hello ,Adapters_i had use one a while back with out problems but they sure can cause problems[seen a so called techie send a new motherboard back from a new computer he was building for a customer because of no display on screen when using one ,until i told him what his problem might be and sure enough it was, he was using one ] ,i think to make sure you have a good one and the right one is important .make sure its a dvi-I i think ,check differences in the link provided ,good luck

Hello and Welcome to DaniWeb ,not really positive but will offer my 2cents ,this i think is a common problem with usb keyboards ,its like you are in limbo when you are at the point of choosing what one to boot too.
only suggest i cam make to be sure that usb legacy devices are set to enabled in the BIOS.

everest isn't up to date any more ,i used it in a newer Compaq recently and could tell me nothing because of this .it didn't recognize the the board therefor could tell me nothing ,but suggested i buy the full version .as you can tell from within your link ,its 2005!
as for cpuid, I think it reads the actual speed of the ram not the multiplies that happen to the ram after the computers OS /bios/cpu or what ever does that to it ,i don't know fur sure.when i turn on my computer it says 333,cpuid shows the speed as 166/max 200 i have pc3200 install /but computer runs at pc2700 .
also cpuid like all free program have faults ,and we are only ginipigs to the developers ,they have tools for sale based on the free one we use , as does everest ,and AVG antiviral, and so on and so on.if this make no sense that because i wrote it .lol

now i just gotta figure out what im giong to do with it, because it seems to me like you thought i was going to purchase it. I got it from someone who no longer needed it (painfully obvious now) and i was just figuring out what i could do with it... thanks

if you mean you have to unplug the monitor, then it would be the monitor ,one would think anyway , as unplugging monitor would not affect a card that in the computer tower .

the laptop has no value now and will have none when you finish ,first you may/will never find a color lcd to fit it ,the amount of ram you could add would be minimal ,it might take a 8gig hdd at best .spend you money on buying one a little better, if money is tight save it up till you have enough, instead of wasting it on this laptop ..my opinion

make sure you computer take the type of ram you are buying ,especially on E-Bay .maybe your laptop doesn't take, CL2.5, ECC ram maybe it take non ecc ram.

ECC is Short for Error-Correcting Code ,usually used in servers i think ,because it was more expensive ,but works for me in some Dell,IBM and Compaq machines i've put it in even though they originally had non ecc in them .
