The zipped file didn't do anything...
Inside it is a file with no extention....
I added a .reg to the end of the file name and it still won't do a thing.
it has a extension on it when i download it ,try again

reboot to the winxp disk to do a fresh install of windows ,delete the existing partition and do a full format not the quick one and reload winxp
edit ,never mind i see you have recovery cd's ,your drive is new did you get a install utilities disk with it ,use it to make the disk ready for install first .if you didn't get disk go to manufacturers web site for utilities disk
check device manager to see if the usb controllers are installed . type into run -- compmgmt.msc
device manager in the left pane ,usb controllers at the bottom of the list
pc XP Pro mouse keyboard freezes up after 10-15 minutes, then machine reboots itself. Ram maybe??
.no chance of a positive assumption on such little info from poster .in my opinion ,my suggest in my first post is the easiest check as it will only take 15 min,and you just have to sit and wait for it to restart ,no need to take anything apart !!!!
noisey .lol for get it .bad attempt at being funny
from the link in my post above ,try one of these ,
Open an Internet explorer and type the router IP address which would be either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 (by default, refer to your product documentation to determine the default IP address.) in the address bar and press Enter.
actually they should go to it now if you click on the right one as they are active links
,also there is great help in the link in above post.or this one from a search in the link above .
http://kbserver.netgear.com/inquira/default.asp?question_box=setting+up+wireless+&collections=kb_file%2Cdatasheets&ui_mode=question&x=0&y=0&collection_restriction=kb_file
noise aint it .lol
maybe ,also dirt/dust in fans ,heat up and shutdown also when its working go to mycomputer /right clcik choose properties ,advanced /in the startup and recovery section /system failure /,and uncheck auto restart ,you then should get a blue screen error ,make not of all it says to troubleshoot the cause of the restart
you need to go to our spyware and other nasties section and follow instructings to posting there at the top of page when you get there ,use this link .

I'm sorry, if u have time.. where can i find router set up or install? i tried searching but no luck..
did you type this 192.168.0.1 in Internet Explorer like i asked in last post ,you need to tell me what you tried in each post to make this easier for me to help you .
adapters do they really work especually 2 to do one thing !!good luck
or use a computer monitor
restore points are good if the computer boots to where you can run system restore !
any hers the info you need to do what you don't want to do from what you call dos .but is actually system recovery .im sure that any good computer repair shop/person can do this .i have done it once myself long ago!!

The Cd-Rom does not work!!
did you go into the bios to change the boot order to cdrom first boot !
this may sound weird but did he contact TalkTalk3 about the problem
I wasn't going to post because i have nothing really constructive to add ,but this I think you answered your own Question ,and a hijackthis log isn't much help with a hardware problem .and maybe i will add something constructive ,maybe a good pci sound card could help with the music interference from the usb device
my guess is it would look something like this ,and my guess is he'll never be back with his screen shot lol
yes that happens and then i connect to it, and it says it was unsuccessful, and get an option to 'diagnose the problem' which says that the router settings need to be matched to wireless laptop settings or something or other..
sorry :s
ok that means you need to go into the routers setup ,on the computer that has the router install you need to type the router ip address in to IE address bar.I thinks its 192.168.0.1
in there you will find the settings you need to set .
link might help.http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101179.asp
you know what they say about talking to yourself!! lol
i tried the other page as well.. router configuration?? my modem is a bizzare one here in egypt (on year abroad placement).. its 'Zhone' and model number 6218-12-302.. the internet is through linkdsl.com but cant find ANY information on the wesbite about the router. (and yep the wireless switch is ON)
my laptop was connecting fine in England, my router there was a belkin.. i dont know :(
if the wireless is turned on in the laptop ,and there is a wireless connection nearby ,you will get a message from the wireless icon down by the clock ,like this ,a wireless connect was found and give you the option to click and connect to the connection if not then someting is wrong with the wireless router
My guess is that you did not run the hardware compatability test program available at Microsoft. Most older computers and/or hardware (before 2001) will fail the test.
I have install winxp pro on pent 133 mhz computer from the year 1996/7 no problems .it may have failed the test but ran winxp.
I would try getting a win98 bootdisk floppy and using it to fdisk and format the drive ,then try winxp install ,leave the fat32 win98 format and install winxp on it see what happens .you may well have a hard drive problem
bobbyraw ,you are replying to old post woke up a poster obliviously spamming something .
when i use cmd in run .i go to the file or folder in mycomputer .highlite the address and copy it and then in the run/ cmd prompt i type del hit spacebar and then i right click next to the blinking cursor and choose to paste this copy the path .
don't know if the safe mode admin ,has more control but being in safe mode might help anyway .
I woke up this morning and only half of my computer screen is up the other half has the "start" icon and the address bars that show what programs that I have running, it also has the time and date.
so you can see both sides of the monitor ,one showing the taskbar the other the desktop
,right click on the half that is showing the taskbar and uncheck lock the taskbar ,then you should be able to drag it back to size .
This is correct:
DEL \Documents and settings\UserA\Desktop\<a certain file>
that would only be correct if the file is on the desktop .also needs the C:\ for full path .
open mycomputer ,go to view ,toolbars ,and check off address bar ,then when you use mycomputer to go to the file it will show the full path to the file .
and the administrator acct you are referring to is found by going into safe mode ,repeatedly hit f8 on bootup to get to safe mode .
It connects fine with the cable, but as soon as i take the cable out it disconnects!
that normal ,you have to connect to the wireless, with a click here and click there ,also you need to make sure that the wireless is turned on ,a lot of newer laptops have a switch or button ,whats the make and model of the laptop .
this might help you .

Sorry, caperjack, another thing, when you said it wouldn't 'see' the CD, do you me you couldn't boot from it, or that it wouldnt even give you the option to boot. I do get the message 'press any key to boot from CD-ROM', and I do that, and I get a simple white text on black screen message 'Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration' (such as you would normally see in the blue Windows Setup loading screen).
yeah thats what i got ,when it happened to me
That line is just the command line telling you where you are. No need to delete it (You can't, anyway).
You should enter "DEL C:/Documents and settings/<User A>"
right
and if that aint it ,remove all pci add in cards first, like modems and sound card, nic card ect ect then try reinstall winxp
2. Setup cannot continue press F3 to restart the machine.after detecting previous windows it shows my partition drives,
Please help!
this is where you need to delete the partition with winxp on it ,and create a new one, loosing all data /files on the drive ,then format the partition and winxp install should continue
when you boot to the floppy at the a:\ prompt type in DIR C:\ ,this should show the c: content .if it dose not you have problems .
as for copying the needed file from the floppy you will need to know the full path of where the file needs to go ,if you don't know where it belongs do a google search on the missing .dll to find out .when you find out you just use simple dos command to copy the file .something like this .
copy a:\msvcrt.dll c:\windows\system
i just guessing as to the destination on the c:\ drive .but i think thats where it needs to go
note there is a space in the command between the .dll file and the c:\
i had similar problem after i installed ubuntu on a hdd with one partition ,when i went to format and install winxp it would not see any winxp cd i had either, but it did see my copy of win2000 so i partitioned and formated the drive ,canceled the 2000 install and rebooted the computer with my winxp in and it then seen the xp.I have used partition magic once or twice,, but never on my main drive ,don't know it well enough to make any suggestions though .
did you try using the cmd prompt in Start/Run to delete them .type cmd into run and type del use a space then the path to the folder . I just deleted google earth exe from the root of my C: drive like this .
del c:\Google_Earth_BZXD.exe
you would do something like DEL C:\Documents and Settings\the name of User here \folder name
Uhh, i hope i translate this correctly since i have a Dutch version of XP
all i can do is check the box with 'Make this folder a shared network folder' next to it
I don't do much with shared folders ,but sometime you get a take ownership option ,maybe if you click to make it a shared folder you can take ownership ,cant hurt to try !!
https://email.uc.edu/help/apps/brands/@/locale/en_US.ISO_8859-1/webmail/folders_shared.html
I build/refurbish and sell used computers ,I have put Linux on a a few of these machines to just play with ,i've been using windows since 1996/win 3.11, and i just cant get use to Linux as my main computer ,too much user input needed to do things just beyond the basics for me .
But use the Knoppix live cd to trouble shoot computer I work on . ,good for that .you can get into the computers hard drive to delete or copy needed file from a usb thumb drive with it !
I want to learn Linux!!!!
good way to play with Linux is to get a live cd copy ,like Knoppix ,no need to load to try ,just boots from the cd.
http://www.knoppix.net/
what kind of options do you get if you right click on the folder and go to properties /sharing
try swapping the power supply first ,sounds like it running at half power ,maybe it is ,psu can work fans but not have a enough power to run computer
this happened t ome once when i installed a powered usb hub to the computer ,it was getting power from the psu of the hub ,i had to uninstall the hub
i wish i had some for sale i would recommend the 200 dollar one .lol
Can I replace the Old CD drive in the Proliant with a newer drive or is this a waste of time? Any suggestions?
its your time! as long as the cables match i can't see why not,if it has scsi drives ans no IDE connection i wouldn't bother
Hey guys, I was trying to boot up my old computer to transfer some files to a new one and it wasn't working. It's a Dell Dimension, and when i turn it on it just freezes up after the screen asking for boot menu/setup. Also at times, the screen will say that the HD is not recognizable and won't start up.
I tried going into the boot menu, and in there there is only an unknown device in the hard drive slot for recognition. I tried putting the HD in another computer, but it's not being detected (that computer is custom made, not by dell). So i really don't know what to do. This was really sudden, when i last turned on the computer (few months ago?) it was fine, slow, but was working fine. Since then it's been off so I don't think it's been affected by power outages or anything like that. Also, you can hear the HD spinning when the computers are turned on.
Any ideas in what I should do?
Thanks a lot.
first thing I try is unplugging ribbon cable to the drive and motherboard ,inside the box ,then replugging them and rebooting .
im in work right now so i cant remember what bios is i think it may be pheonix... but i dont think im looking in the wrong area... i look at list of ide devies and they are all shown as none, when i got to boot device it only lists the HDD? its very strange not somethin ive come across before!

i didn't play games on internet, just playing games installed on my computer. i m just playing winning eleven 9 and this game did not needed a high requirment.
thank you for that answer .
below is quote from you first post
when i played the game my computer get hang for a few times but this problem never happen before
It maybe dust in the tower,on the video card fan if there is one on it [dirty fans and heatsinc] causing overheating when playing the game.also make sure you have tthe latest drivers for the video card installed .
Well, that worked beautifully. My laptop is functioning perfectly once more!
Thank you very much, Caper. You are my knight in 256-bit armour.
LOL, your welcome
my first thought is that you may in the wrong section of the bios for changing boot order ,there are different bios's so im not sure to tell you where to look .but the drives aren't even listed in the section of some bios's where i change the boot order ,who makes your bios ,
i guess you are the Pro help ,good work
better to try locally than e-bay ,especially if you are a first time seller
