my opinion is that it overheated ,maybe buy a can of compressed air and blow out all fans and heatsinc fins you can see .as for bios going bad ,never heard of that ,maybe corrupt but if that happened it would not have booted back up ,the bios is memory chip with computer main info to tell it how to boot !

Totally agree with ya caperjack, if it is in warranty take it back! Do you think it's the CPU overheating? That could cause this kinda issue, with lots of freezing.

a friend of mine has 3 computers where he recently installed xp and after 1 to 2 days he sees this error message on start up(on all 3 comps)-THE INSTRUCTION ( OX01830781 ) REFERENCED MEMORY At ( Ox018d256C ) the memory could not be read.press ok to terminate program.

he says sometimes this problem crops up sometimes it doesn't.and on asking which program did he install recently,he said yahoo messenger and MS office.please tell me the solution.

not sure what program is causing it but because it happens on startup ,it should be easy to fix ,get him to go to start/all programs and check the startup folder shortcut there and remove any program shortcuts there MS office usually puts itself there ., if none there get him to go to start/run ,and type in "msconfig" minus the quotes,and go to startup tap along the top ,and uncheck the programs that don't need to be running on startup ,like office and yahooo messanger and windows messenger and the like .

I have an emachines desktop. I am getting this blue screen and I cannot boot up windows at all. The blue screen says to disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, then restart your computer.

hello ,If you have a winxp cd put it int he cdrom drive and boot computer ,wait for message hit any key to boot to cd,you may need to go into the bios to change the boot order to get it to boot to the cd-rom ,if it boots to the cd you then need to hit R for repair to get to the recovery console and there you can run the chkdsk.

I drought its a problem with sp2 as i think the laptop had sp2 on it before the format ,when it also didn't work!!

if you go to device manager ,do the drives show there if so ,delete then and reboot computert to reload drivers ,
also this"O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\perfc000.dat" looked out of place in you log so i googled it and found it is out of place and should be removed .

ALso, on SOME models the power supplies are custom so they will destroy a standard motherboard.

not saying it isn't true in some cases ,but i have never seen this before ,i have used a regular power supply to replace one in a dell once , i did buy a regular p4 motherboard and power supply and installed it in a compaq computer that had a bad motherboard /power supply and it is still in use by my niece next door ,using it since about a year now .

I just did a fresh install of winxp pro sp3 pre release [selling computer so i don't care ],,ie 6 errors out ,i assume because of sp3,i load ie7, works ok ,now top half of web page www. msn.ca wants to be my home page ,i click yes ,next time i start it wants to install ie 7 Special Pack or something with live search /tool bars and more ,did all that just to get rid of top msn page .annoying get it now add. oh well good luck to new owner !lol

i suggest using cpu-z to show you what cpu is running at, and what ram and how many slots you have ,and if there is a slot available to add more ram .SPD section will show how many slots and amount of ram in each slot .there is likely a small removable door on the back of the laptop for memory

yeah,that would work ,then you should be able to get the rest of the drive back as another partition ,with disk manager,or there should be a utility to ready the drive for windows on the hdd manufacturers website ,who makes the drive .

I didn't format the drive with win XP, I got as far as Partitioning, then I had to stop. This is a brand new HDD.

ok,then you need to go in and delete old partition if any and create a new partition ,and format and reload winxp.

sure you do, its built into the motherboard!!! hopefully you are plugging the hdd into it .did you format the drive with winxp during install.if yes,that most likely you problem, type this into run, "compmgmt.msc "and go to disk manager you should be able to activate the rest of the drive and formate it .

try creating a new user and see if it has desktop controls ,if it does,then you are dealing with a somewhat corrupt desktop .

or switch to linux ,maybe ubuntue ,its a free download, ,just get a friend to download it for you and use that .Freeeeee

most likely antivirus program doing a scan on bootup. do a ctrl+alt+del . go to processes and see whats using the most of the cpu. something will be close to 100% .

it will work if its quality ram and backward compatiable ,but will only run a the same speed as the ddr pc2100 ,becausepc2100 is the fastes ram it will use

when using memtest86 you should test one stick of ram at a time .

go to www.hp.com and search for Compaq n600c drivers for win2000.
as for the clean install you were suppose to delete the old partition ad create a new partition and format it and load 2000 on it .
Edit = i couldn't find drivers for 2000 but there were some for xp home and pro.

After you enter the BIOS, look for the USB Legacy Support setting. Usually, this setting is found under the Advanced, Peripheral, or Peripheral Configuration menu, however your BIOS may be different.

if you haven't all ready checked this then check it ,!!
when in printers in control panel right click on the printers icon go properties and ports and make sure its selected for lpt1 and not usb

put it back as slave to the other drive ,and boot to windows ,just right click on the icon for the drive in mycomputer and hit format

also some machines when you get a flash screen on startup of say E-Machine or Compaq ,you can hit the TAB key to get rid of the splash screen and see what on the screen underneath the splash screen ,but e-machines and some other are tougher to get into as they want you to return to them or call them for paid tech support

Whenever I turn my PC for first time, The Monitor Wont Start, neither Keyword. I have to disconnect the power cable to PC and wait few seconds and then reconnect.

ok,i have couple of questions ,first is, neither keyword a miss spelled word,did you mean neither does keyboard .
next ? when you unplug the cable from computer do you first turn off the computer with the front power button ,or just take it out the back or from the wall .
did you try leaving the monitor off and just turning on the computer until it boots up and then turn on the monitor

Hello all, am new to this site. I have an older hp pavillion 7800 that came with 2000 pro. it has long ago been upgraded to xp pro. i recently aquired a laserjet 1100a that works great on my laptop but will not print from the desktop?? I have tried all the help desk fixes, new drivers bios setting for the lpt port, uninstalling and reinstalling everything, different cables etc. When i plug the printer in to the laptop it sees it , installs it and prints.When i plug it in to the desktop it sees it istalls it and seems to print but stops after the job is sent to the printer, the status light just blinks forever and no printing and no error message any help would be greatly appreciated

does the computer have more that one printer installed ,if so is this printer set to be the default printer,if not go to printers in control panel and set it default
