start by taking the hard drive out and taking it to the tech guys and see if they can recover the data ,this will also tell you the harddrive is the source of you problem, you say you never touched the ram ,it may be bad ,ram can go bad ,you would need to have a stick of same type ram to put in ad try it to know if its the ram.

I have a T6420 E Machines that powers up, but doesn't boot the keyboard/mouse is not reading. Plus the machine seems to be making a different noise than it normally did (sounds louder). Is this the motherboard or the processor. And what is an affordable alternative to put into the machine so i wont have this problem again. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds louder ,did you open the case to see if any or all fans are working ,also not full of dust ,could be a heating problem ,could also just be a bad power supply ,and bad power supplies lead to bad motherboard .really hard to tell you what to put in to fix it,as it it be many things . and to never have the problem again, is impossible ! you own it, you will always have problems .

Hi,

Just bought a Western digital 10,000 rpm sata Hard drive that I'd like to use for boot. Motherboard has 6 ata ports + an IDE. Have an old IDE HDD as master w/ an IDE cd-rom. When I plug in the sata hard drive it isn't recognised by computer bios. If I change the IDE hard drive to slave then it isn't recognized.

So what's the problem with these sata hard drives? Why does nothing recognise them?

Update -- if I disable the old IDE Hard drive and only connect the sata, when I boot from a CD-Rom then no hard drive at all is found. The bios recognises it as sata-1 but after that it's dead.

when installing winxp on a sata drive you need to hit the f6 key when asked, to install drivers for the sata ,these drivers are usually on the motherboard disk that came with the computer .the drivers will need to be on a floppy disk to load . before the drive will be recognized by winxp

First thing i would try is to unplug power cord ,hold power on button in for about 30 seconds.then plug it back into power outlet and try turning it on again .
if nothing happens,I would then try to reset the Bios to default settings .
those are the 2 things i would do first if it were my computer ,others may do different!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

First thing to mine is ,maybe the cod4 is a DVD disk, and you desktop computer drive isn't dvd drive

Well, its recommended that you only have 1 virus program on your computer at a time

the correct statement is to only have one "ACTIVE" antivirus program at a time ,more than one is ok .and the link i posted is only for a free online scan no antivirs program is loaded onto you computer, and trendmicro is one of the best !As AOL and McAfee try hard to climb the list of good Software/virus scanners!!

Thanks for that suggestion - I'd already looked into that. But keep the ideas coming. Things are running better but I still am not where I'd like to be. In typing this message, for example, the computer stopped printing for several seconds and I had to wait for (whatever) to finish before the printing caught up with my typing. It makes no sense for this sort of delay to be happening. Until I can get rid of all the "slows" I'm seeing I'm not where I want to be.

Until a Windows OS comes along (or a tool to use with existing Windows OSs) which allows you to get rid of the delays and slowness, an OS is simply not doing the job it should be capable of doing.

Bull! Im using winxp and my words are keeping up fine with my typing !
The problem you are having is not the OS ,but software, whether it malicious or not !

start here . http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

also, you could go Linux. Ubuntu is a good one .and its free.

I searched for previous info on re-installing SiS_Lib.dll. The answers were less than encouraging. As I tried to do as was said to fix the drivers. Everyone wants money to do that.
Is there not some way I can do it without paying. In plain english please.
Thanks

The plainest English i can speak,it will cost you nothing to reinstall the video drivers on you computer, you need to know the manufacture of the video card[if you have onboard video then to the motherboard manufacture] in you computer and go to there web site for free download of the drivers ,simple.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

How do you minimize a user login?

did some searching and i do believe what you want to do is impossible!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

you also might want to try tweakui part of Microsoft's' power toys
http://www.filehippo.com/download_tweakui/

actually this program will do nothing to speed up your computer ,i just tried it again after many yeast of using it ,i will leave the link anyway .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

The fact that so many links are returned by the aforementioned search suggests I'm
far from the only person having a "slowness" issue.

Any further suggestions anyone has are sincerely welcome.

I use a P4 2.8 with 1 gig of ram and keep things neat and tidy and I to consider my machine slow ,actually i think its really slow right now for some reason,i just loaded win98 on a p4 1.6 /512 ram,and its a quick as a bunny ,never loaded any other software on it yet,and that the main reason its still fast ,as soon as we start loading software to fix this or speed up this, we start the slow down process.Especially a Anti Virus program
you might want to check out the startup in msconfig and stop programs not needed at startup from running .just go to,Start/ type msconfig into the run ,go to startup/and unchek program not need to be running all the time .only 4 things in mine .

As for turbo mode ,that never worked even when there use to be a turbo button on the front of the tower !lol

Info: It is a completely blank hard drive that i put in im guessing. im tryin to format windows but it wont let me get that far because "primary hard disk drive 0 not found"

To the best of my knowledge todays bios 's will auto detect with out changing any settings ,check the ribbon caple and the setting of the master /slave jumpers on the drive
also if the drive is new and empty then it may not be formatted .most hdd manufactors have software utility to setup a new hdd, just search there web site ,you would download the program and copy it to a floppy or cdrom and boot computer to the disk to run the utility .
excample Maxtor ,has MaxBlast '

Computer is a Pentium IV 1.3GHz 384 Meg RDRAM. Hard drive is 60 Gig. Has anyone tried all solid state flash drives as their main hard drive? The old slow hard drive has to be part of the problem. Processes show more than 2 pages - best way to share details would be to do a screen capture and post the image but can I post an image here? This has been going on since XP came out and I loaded it on my system. Would really like to avoid reloading the OS (and XP SP2) as this would take a bunch of time - and - I have no reason to think but that the problem would still be with me.

JAJansenJr
JAJansenJr@gmail.com

at first glance ,i would say get a ram upgrade ,to at least 1 gig ,When do you notice the slowness the most ,If its the internet ,you have to remember that maybe you didn't update any of your software ,But todays internet software is a major upgrade for your computer Re: IE 7,Java and all the Flash type programs and flash s--it on the internet to-day,and you may have to consider upgrading you old P4, 1.3 to get the speed you are looking for.

Anyway with what you have i would use CCleaner to clean any unneeded temp file and other crap ,and regestry cleaning ,safe program i use all the time .
also a scan with Spybot 'search and destroy .

It does indeed. But the Crucial System Scanner detects my installed SDRAM and still suggests me DDRs to upgrade, and states nothing about not mixing types... So I'm still confused! Who should I listen to??

Kingston+caperjack VS. Crucial (?)

Sorry. I need consensus!

ok,lets put it this was sdram is old school ,and ddr pc2700 is old school now too,,but is newer than sdram ,so remove you sdram and install some ddr ram for better and faster ram!don't know how else to put it to you!!

I'm having a problem with my IBM 240x. When I power on the laptop with the battery inside and the AC connected, everything is fine at the beginning, with LED showing that the battery is charging.

But, soon after the Windows is up, the power switches to the battery. I have to disconnect the adapter, wait a bit, re-connect again, and then the AC is recognised and the battery starts charging. After a little while the story repeats. Is this a problem with Windows, or what? Any ideas? Thanks much,

my first thought would be a bad power plug connection to the motherboard ,inside the laptop .maybe

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Thanks for your input, caperjack!

So, in spite of Kingston's warning about not mixing the two types of memory on my mobo, you see no problem in doing so, then? Or am I missing something…?

I know DDR is faster, and I considered getting two 512 DDRs, but for the use I'm giving this box... I'd rather get just one - as long as it can work no-problem with that 256 SDRAM, that is.

no you can't mix them, one type or the other . as it clearly states in the link in you first post .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Hello i would suggest you get 2 -512 sticks of ddr pc2700 ram .If all you can afford is one than by allmeans just get one ,but get ddr as it is faster than the older sdram.
