That error points to a corrupt registry hive. There are instructions at microsoft.com to try to fix it but my experience has always been a repair install using the XP cd that came with your computer.

and it makes this sound from the internal speaker that sounds like "This Computer is dead"

when you turn on the computer does anything show on the monitor ,no hard drive needed to show boot screen when you turn on the computer ,so if you are not getting a boot screen you have a real problems .try opening the case and remove all add in cards,if any , except the video card . if you have 2 sticks of ram remove one ,un plug cdrom drives .try compute again

time for local help from someone who knows a bit more than yourself ,before you totally fugg the thing .

I can't run .exe files, and I was wondering if there was any way in which to run files/programs by using another file extension that windows will recognise?
.exe files are blocked by the system admin, and so I cannot run anything!

if you are not the system admin ,then get permision from him/her ,if you are the systrm admin and you can't run .exe's them your computer may be infected with a virus/spyware or trojan ,download and run ad-aware ,spybot search and destroy and scan computer /

first thing i would try is going to control panel,users and create a new account ,see if the same happens to it ,maybe you account is corrupt.
if that doesn't make a difference ,get Spybot search and destroy and Ad-Aware, CCleaner and run a scan of you computer .you can find these programs at .www.filehippo.com

windows should be all ready re-loaded when it returns !

I will agree that it is best to do a fresh install of winxp when changing the motherboard ,but its not totally necessary ,I have done a repair install many time on customers computers and on mine own computer ,when i didn't want to reload all the other software on the computer ,actually just had a return customer[virus problem ] that i had done it to back in may of 05,and its still running the same winxp install.

I guess it is possible something went wrong with the router.
after reset ,the default settings should be enough to make connection through router,with out setting it up,mine is anyway [belkin router ], as long as the cat45 cables are connected properly .

When I do a hard reset of the router my settings don't reset.

do you do this with the router plugged in to power outlet ,if not try it holding the reset in till all lights turn off and then back on !

did you check in mycomputer ,if you have address bar put this in,"C:\Documents and Settings " with out the quotes and see if your old user acct is still there and if you stuff is intact.if no address bar ,just navigate to documents and settings

sounds like it needs to be formatted/enabled or what ever . ,
go to start run,type in or copy paste this .
compmgmt.msc
in the left pane go to disk management ,click on the pen drive ,and it should show both partitions if they are there ,and you should be able to right click on the partition and format it or enable it

This forum should be easy.
control panel > edit option > disable intellitext

For other you may need to disable javascript. But that may have bad affect on navigation.
