First of all you have misunderstood as far as i know. Your internet speed can't be 100mbps it may be your lan speed. And understand this:
Suppose your internet speed be X /sec but practically X/8 is your download ratio if you are not using DSL modem. ;0

But anyways as mentioned in previous posts try to scan for viri and malware on system.

112 cache is built into the processor and not changable ,unless you change cpu' to one with more cache,you will need to add sdram, to the computer and like other poster says have enough space on harddrive for xp and its more than 1 gig,more like 2.5 gig .also if you really don't want to slow your computer to a crawl ,leave win98 on it .

my computer won't boot past the windows xp display. when it gets to that point, the system just shuts down. i trued to reload it but it shuts down during reload as well.

most likely cause of you problem is heat ,open case side and check for dirty fans of fans that are not working ,also tell us a little about you computer like CPU.waht windows OS amount of ram and sh-t like that

Resolving the Problem
The Graphics Controller driver may be corrupt. This is the most likely cause of the problem. Reinstall the driver or Update the driver.
To reinstall the driver(EX. Intel® Extreme Graphics controller)
1. Open the control panel
2. Remove Intel® Extreme Graphics controller.
3. Delete the Intel folder in C:\Program Files, if it exists.
4. Remove the registry entry of INTEL using Registry Editor. Click Start > Run. In the open box type regedit. Click OK. Double click on the HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE branch. Double click on the Software branch. Select INTEL and delete.
5. Insert the motherboard installer CD or select latest Intel® Graphic Controller software downloaded and install the graphic controller.
6. Reboot the computer.
7. Done.

Also formating you computers is kind of a waste of time correct me if i'm wrong but the wireless router is a stand alone device so even if both pc's are down your router should still work, so you have to reset the router to it's default settings.

if in doubt read the manual ;)

and you are also right ,once router is setup you could sell the computer/remove it from the house , and the router will still work as a wireless connection as long as it remains connected to ISP

then you didn't hold the button in long enough !try about 35-40 seconds or untill the lights flash on the router .yes leave it plugged in when holding the button .

hijackthis does what msconfig can do ,in the hijackthis log are the programs that are running .no need to check msconfig. 04's are programs running at startup.

try this might or might not work ,open mycomputer,set folder toolbars the way you want them to look, ,go to tools/folder options/view/apply to all folders ,close mycomputer and see what happens

it is quite likely that the harddrive is getting bad

there should be around 300gb!! so if i formatte hard drive i should get that missing space back.

yes ,it will show up as on-allocated space,remember if you format the hdd you will loosed your winxp install and everything else on the computer

if you mean you important stuff on other partitions of the same drive the answer is no just format the partition with winxp on it ,that is the reason we store important data on other partitions .

i don't know of any ,did you do the chkdsk, right click on the harddrive icon and go to tools and run it from there .it could be anything ,i have knoppix linux boots and runs from a cd for checking computers that work like yours

hello ,yes it meant to put the winxp cd in the drive and restart computer ,you should see on the screen "hit any key to boot from cdrom " if you don't then you need to go into the bios and change the boot sequent to first boot cdrom .you inlaws harddrive will also give you the blue screen because of driver conflicts between the two different motherboards ,but you could put you harddrive in heres as a SLAVE and take you pictures off ,onto heres ,then reload winxp on you to get rid of blue screen .
Time for you to seek out the neighborhood computer geek for help ,every neighborhood has one or two !!

i checked the partition again, i tried to deletd the partiton with windows installed in it but was unable to.

That depends how you created the partition i think ,try disk manager in control panel, go to administrative tools/computer management /disk management

a program called Everest will show all hardware on you computer ,it may give you the proper name of the sound card .

Well I ended explorer.exe again, ran spybot, registry cleaner, and HJT. I posted my log in the virus section, so hopefully I can get this problem fixed soon! :]

you should get hijackthis and post a log in the virus spyware section of this fourm . try your last fix again and install hijackthis then run the scan after it goes back to not opening exe's

i did once do a dual boot with a scsi drive plugged in to pci scsi controller card and my regular ide drive ,using a boot manager program .the problem i think you will have is that windows can't boot from the secondary ide or slave setting ,so you would need to install a pci ide controller card to do what you are trying to do.

on you motherboard disk there should be drivers for that sata drive to be install during the early part of installing winxp ,by hitting f6 when prompted ,watch for it early in the install.you will need to copy the drivers from the motherboard disk to a floppy if you computer has a floppy drive.as to where the drivers are on the motherboard disk see you boards manual .

most hdd makers have one ,maxblast come to mind

some how you video controller got uninstall and you must reinstall when you get the new hardware found message, not uninstall it ,video controller is a motherboard function ,part of the chipset of the board,it control's you video card ,drivers can be found at you mothereboard manufactures web site
