it maybe caused by spyware/trojan/virus. some will disable msconfig so you can't stop them from running i guess, try spybot search and destroy and ad-aware ,find them at www.filehippo.com

, so after reading yor post i was left with the doubt, how wold you uninstall all those drivers?

Thanks for all your help
~~ Roiie

you do not need to uninstall any drivers now ,i was refering to before you removed old motherboard,,the way to remove chipset drivers and video drivers and ide controller drivers is in the device manager

Hmm Alright, i'll try it and see how it turns out, thank you

EDIT:

The thing is i cant access windos at all, when i attempt to access safe mode it does the same thing, it goes ok until the part where the XP load windows is supposed to appear then flashes a blue screen and restars...

you must have missed my post ,i have install about 30 new motherboards over the past 5 yrs and have see you problem every time ,i usually just reload windows but on about 10 occasions a install over was wanted by customer so they wouldn't have to reload all there programs .just follow the instruction in my previsions post ,if you have full version of winxp and not a winxp recovery cd..like the one Dell and many other manufacturers use .
actually you could have avoided this if you had uninstall video/harddrive controller drivers and motherboard chipset drivers before removing the drive from old motherboard

u can use the HDD in the same machine with a utillity program that can repair bad sector. scandisk can do this or norton utilities. if u can repair the BOOT sector (head sector) the bios will read it. then you can attach to another computer and get your files.

i have trown away quite a few harddrive that computers would no longer see, nothing showes in mycomputer when connected via usb device,win98 fdisk detected no harddrive winxp cd detected no harddrive to run scandis/chkdsk , ,so are you saying i could have still use some type of utility to fix them

I have a Dell Dimension 4700, 3.0 ghz, upgraded 3GB RAM, new Nvidia 7600GT 256MB video card and a new 500W Power Supply.

The problem is my fan is so loud, I can barely hear anything else. I have replaced the cpu fan 3 times now and the fan is still as loud as ever. I need to know if there is somehow I can communicate to my cpu not to run my fan so loud or if I should just get a new heatsink and therefore, which one should I get.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. If anyone else has had this problem, please some advice, I am getting desperate, and can't afford to buy a new machine.

Thank you.

first ?, how would a new heat sinc help a noisy fan ,and did all 3 fans make the loud noise ,now my recommendation to you would be to go out and buy a really good quality cpu fan for your machine ,as better is best !also are you sure its not the video card fan or power supply fan making all the noise!!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

its a chipset driver/ide device conflict cause by the new motherboard, being different than you old one ,the fix i use for this is to reinstall winxp over it self .described here

okay, firstly, try to reseat your memory sticks. Start your computer.

If the problem still persists, you will need to reset the cmos.

Remove the main battery.
Remove the bottom cover.
Find the CMOS battery. Unplug it for a few minutes then put it back again.

See attached pictures below...

Be sure you don't have a raid configuration in your system. I don't know if this process will also be covered or accepted by the manufacturer warranty policy.

If the problem persists, send your computer to an authorized service center for further evaluation.

the laptop is a day old send it back before you void your warranty,a lemon tastes bitter the first bite!! you got a lemon

Hello everyone, I have a problem regarding my hardware not detecting my CPU. .

hardware not detecting cpu!! strange ,are you sure its not the power supply not suppling enough power to actually boot the computer up completely ,this would be my first suggestion, obtain a new power supply and install it and see what happens.sometimes the power supply will turn on fans and lights but not enough power to fully boot computer

windows xp recovery feature wont kick off. It says press R to start recovery and the the windows director comes up like this 1: Windows/ so I press "1" and then nothing happens. so i tried pressing enter after that and it goes back to c:/windows and nothing else happens. Do you know what I can do to get it to kickoff? The reason I am doing this is windows wont start under safe mode or any of the other options offered.

there is nothing to kick off you need to know what to type in ,if you type in help you will get a list of commands to use ,but you need to know what it is you are trying to repair .

You might want to try a repair install of you OS if you have a full version of winxp

I installed a dual boot system with windows 98SE first then windows XP. Now I can't get but 16 colors on my display. I know I need drivers but don't know where or how to get them. The problem of looking up the correct driver is i'll be looking up the driver for a compaq presario windows XP, which is the computer I have all this on. But I need display drivers for windows 98SE. What kind of drivers and number do I look for. Thanks! Too much for me!

so the win98 only shows the 16 colors right ,go to Compaq website and search your your model/model number, and it should direct you to drivers for win98 ,or post the model number here and i will search for them for you .
You could also use a program called Everest to tell you what Video chipset you have and what drivers to look for .

hi you can install windows even without formatting your HD..try to load your XP cd and choose repair during the installation process..just try..

good idea ,but a little vague in the instructions ,when trying this don't choose R to repair windows when asked the first time ,choose install winxp ,then in the next screen choose R for repair ,so its choose R for repair the second time you are asked .this will install xp over top of excisting install ,please note: important data could be lost when using this method .
Also this will only work with full version of xp,will not work with a recovery cd ,like ones that come with Compaqs,HP and Dells and other brand name computers .

Hi cguan,
Yes I also feel so but still looking for any option if available by which the HARD DISK data can get retrieved if possible.Should I try linking that HD to some other PC and check whether the same gets detected or not?

Hello, yes you could try hooking it to another machine, only way to find out if it will see you drive is to troubleshoot and put it in the other computer .having said that ,its been my experience that if your computer will not see it neither will the other computer .

hi this is my first post..i am about to do same thing, but i have cleaned my heatsink and internal parts the computer many times.
The heat sink and fan are to separate parts, the fan is attached to the HS by 4 screws on each corner, once you remove the HS+Fan undo the screws and pull apart...then clean with cotton buds or whatever between the metal gaps, then put it all back together....
my question is do i NEED to add thermal glue or whatever when i move my CPU unto my new ( brand new) board
thanks for any help

Zeep

it is recommended that you clean of both heatsinc and cpu of old past and apply new past .i use a flat blade, like one for a utility knife

i think the question is how to remove from msconfig the programs listed that have all ready been uncheck and stopped from starting up!!.i don't know the answer as i don't use msconfig to stop the programs i don't want starting up ,i use hijackthis to do that

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

well part 1 has a .exe a jpeg and a dll file and the second has just and .exe (i dont need the jpeg) but both the exe's are supposed to install 1 program, i think. cos the first exe has a setup icon while the 2nd exe just has that white box with a blue outline

so did you click on the setup icon to see if it installs, try this unzip the one with the setup file and just put the other zip in the folder with the first ,then click on the setup file of the first one .

I think the above course of action could lead to undesirable results if Akuma isn't absolutely rock steady sure of what is being disabled.

yeah you may be right ,my post says if it were mine its what i would do ,im not suggesting its what they do ,my suggestion would be to take the computer to a computer shop and have it fixed .
Its a fresh install so chances are there are no other usb devices install ,and if there is they knew how to install them so they will know how to reinstall them .!!

sorry for not replying immediately.. btw i installed in E drive.. however..
the first time i had setup the comp.. i partitioned the hard disk.using win 98. then i used the xp cd n it asked which partition to load the os n i selected E..

you should have selected the first partition being C:\ to save you the problems you are having now,if i were you i would backup data and format the whole dang thing and reload winxp on the C:\ partition
