the answer is "no" you cant use the disks from the laptop ,they are for the laptop and only for that laptop

actually this use to happen on my laptop win7 , iremember going into device manager and getting it to chen the internet for drivers and it found and updated the driver and it keept working after that ,wish laptop did but it died later on

try activating the computer admin acct .right click on, [MY]Computer and click on manage ,turn on admin acct ,reboot and see if you can delete folder now ,also what folder is it

also did it come with win7 or Vista ,and are you installin correct drivers for win7

like how would you know that the time sync wasn't syncing the time

virus/trojan could cause this problem ,i would scan computer with malwarebytes or superantivirus program

if you have everything backed up i would suggest running the recover and getting it back to factory isntall
you can use the zero key on bootup to get to the recovery

I don't understand the vista sucks comment ,we have Vista running on a laptop ,3yrs old same install ,burns and converts dvd movies and anything else we throw at it ,so what problems are we suppose to be having with it !and it runs almost 24/7 for the past 3yrs

my email notivacation stopped working a long time ago ,i actuall forget already how i had my homepage set to open in daniweb ,but it showed that a posters posted a new post to the threads i was watching or posting in .

also just found the icon to hit to stop watching a post ,but i would have had to do that with 182 pages of them ,as i was using the watched articles section to view the post in question

check you power settings ,it is eitor going into sleep mode or just set to turn off the monitor ,also try hitting the enter key or using you touchpad to bring it back to life

How can a DVD disk become unreadable from wear and tear?

it gets scratched or cracked ,some computer repair shops have disk polishing repair machines if you need for fixed ,they sometime work ,the machines have there limits

did you try doing a system restore back to before you used the removal program .

no, actually the snapshot is easier to read ,but anyway ,It's A Dell ,its so outdated ,i would suggest buying a whole new tower ,replacing all you old hardware,

these are just thoughts , have you booted to win7 dvd and run the repair ,have you trie System file checker , "sfc /scannow" in run or cmd

It’s too old and I want to upgrade it.

this is not the correct motherdboard model # just its version ,if we knew the correct model # we could offer more detail info .

usually cheaper to just go out and buy a new tower .

or depending on how old it is , you might need a new tower ,/new power supply/motherboard/cpu /ram /sata hard drive/ [most new motherboards don't have IDE connector ]new video card ,ect ect

plug everything back in correctly remove power cord ,hold the power button in for like 1 min,then plug power back in ,try turning the tower on again ,
if nothing happens ,try removing the bios battery[silver battery about the size of a quarter ] from the motherboard for 5 or 10 min ,replace it ,this will return bios to defaults ,try booting computer again

there is nothing like onhands tech support by someone who will be able to look and check you settings ,and whats going on ,really hard to do so from a distance like we try to do here ,if i had the laptop in my hands and could look around at things ,i would likely figure it out ,so take it to a computer shop or computer tech,guru you may know

does Ctrl+Alt+Del bring up the Task Manager?

this is an old thread ,but just to finish your suggestion ,in taks manager go to file /new task /and type in explorer.exe ,hit enter

memtest86,download the windows iso and burn it to disk and boot computer to the disk it creates ,run the memtest for at least 5 or 6 hrs ,my opinion .

you need to find out the bios version and name,it will be on the screen when first booting computer ,like Award /Phoenix /Ami ,ect ect then check beep error codes ,on this site ,

once I reinstalled windows 7 which order of driver installation should i have to use not to make it messy again

always start with the chipset driver ,after that Video ,then it doesn't really matter ,just make sure to restart if it asks after every driver install

sounds like you have drivers all screwed up to ,i would just reinstall windows ,then go directly to device manager and see what drivers are missing
