i understand you just click on the file to open it .i just thought that maybe if you tried it the other way it might work for you
i never used vista,so i have to ask ,does it like win7 offer the run as administrator when you right click on a programs icon,if it does, turn UAC back on, right click the icon of the program you are using to edit the file ,and chose the run as admin, using the FILE/Open on the toolbar],and edit and save file ,see what happens
i do computer repairs for friends and family ,and have had a lot of problems accessing saved /backedup file off there troubled hdd before formatting and reinstalling windows ,some i could never get ,for me most of this is just trial and error ,sorry i don't have an answer for you
is the favorites.html file in the documents folder
sure it was ok to do ,you are an admin ,but if your right click on most icons you will see "run as administrator "this is considered upper lever admin permission ,and when used it will eliminate the message about not having admin rights
win7 has a hidden admin acct ,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/507-built-administrator-account-enable-disable.html
in winxp it was visiable when you went in safe mode or looked in the users folder on the c:\ drive .
its now called programs and features
a friend just told me the other day that his laptop has face recognition i will check with him on monday to see fur sure
ok,the same with my lap but i cant remove the cd/dvd because its in the other side...
sometime we all jump to conclusions ,[especially me ]not all dvd drives remove in the manner we are suggestion i know i hd a toshiba that didn't ,but most new one do .
just checking to be clear ,after removing the screws, did you use your finger tips [between the laptop bottom and the dvd front bezel ] to try a pull/pry the dvd out .
anyway good luck at the service department
sorry for being a ass ,but im one in real life too.lol
I sorry!...I was NOT blaming you. I just wanted you to know why I am where I am NOW!
i know , what is the model # of the dell you are looking at buying
caperjack
If you read my post's I clearly stated for the exact model number so people here could help, and in the post you quoted of mine, I clearly stated with additional Step, so that person is clear on what they need to do.
I found no mention of the Exact model number for them to take the drive out and to leave it out.
Now someone has posted the diagram of the machine, Poseidon has all the info they need.
If they still can not or refuse to understand what we trying to get them to do, then they simply have to either get a friend with PC knowledge or pay a pro to do it, as also suggested.
I do not find it helpful for people like Jingda to give me a neg feedback when clearly the exact model number was not quoted anywhere.
If I am wrong, please state which post it is in Jingda
i read you post and know what you meant, didn't mean to offend you ,sorry
op posted this as the model # quote -its a fujitsu siemens amilo li 1818... all be it may not be exact, its likely close
i searched and found the manual for that model I posted the image of the laptop flipped over and picked the 2 screws i think will make it possible to remove the dvd drive , there next post was a image of the shared folder showing in there mycomputer .totally ignoring my …
As explained in my post
I copied a folder called Email Back to an External USB DriveI put in a new Harddrive and doen a clean install.
I installed say my email package, which all I have had to do in the past under WInXP was, rename the new folder the install created and then copy the backup to same location. So say Email folder from external drive to C:\program files (86) (under Vista) .
But when I tried editing the ini files as I needed to tell it where the correct email accounts are, it wouldn;t let me save, I then saved to Documents and manuall overwrit them.
If I launched my Emial package it said, Access Denied.
My Admin account had a 1 (I think on the old install) after the name e.g Work1 but on the new install my I called the account Work as my Admin account.
I was asking, how do I give myself admin ownership of all the files and folder under the Mail folder on Vista ?
really ,i re-read the first post and only thing i see explained was try to rename a ini file or something ,you just refer to it as saved data ,nothing about it being saved emails from a specific email program .
you don't mention what email program you were using in vista and if it the same one in win7
Poseidon
Take the CD/DVD drive out and boot up with out it.
Then shutdown and put the drive back in and then see if it finds the drive.
we've been trying to get them to do that since the early post
(ασφαλης εκτελεση κοινοχρηστων φακελων ) - safe performance of shared folders
i think its a networking function ,for sharing folders and files with others on your network, try turning it off
http://www.cmu.edu/computing/doc/network/fileshare/windows.html
usually happens when backing up files from a computer user that had a password !
try right click on folder ,go to properties/security /advanced ,and change permissions to add the new you ,should be in a list on the screen
Thanks caperjack. I'm thinking of buying a Dell PC that has no OS installed. I went to eBay and ordered the HP 882C printer you suggested but when I got it, it was OLD, DIRTY & with NO power cord (so that was $25.00 wasted)!...So I thought I would buy a new PC with no OS installed, because and there are programs I have that needs the ME OS.
just for the record ,i suggested you buy an old printer ,i did not suggest you buy any specific one ,especially one that was dirty and had no plug ,so i wont take the blame for that .lol
see attachment picture of your laptop
screw #2 to remove back cover ,i will guess screw #3 and maybe #4 to release the dvd rom ,using a dull knife pry the edge of the dvd drive outward to remove it .
technically yes, legally no .but its a unsupported OS now so i don't think Bill G really cares .lol
for what it worth ,in my opinion the poster has no problem ,the caps part of the story is likely a copy past from some website ,the email address was added in the hope that one of us email them and they would then have out email address and start spamming our email ,there are a lot ,and i mean a lot ,of these type post now on daniweb forum now [and it needs to stop or people will stop helping or coming here for help ],so many it beginning to ruin this forum in my opinion
Seems you are paying attention to the thread
And actually capperjack about the screw part i have already said. Some case have two screws while most have one. It seems that capperjack is also making the same mistake by repeating the same thing;) Heehe
i wasn't repeating something you already said !!! was responding to the comment made by the original poster, about your suggestion to removing a screw or 2 ,
quoted below
if u mean to remove the dvd from the computer and put it back that i cant do it,if there is any other way to recover my driver than its ok,if not than i have to go to service...all i need its to find the driver...
If there is no driver, there is no way a CD/DVD can be read, download the suitable driver for you PC. Install. Problem solved.
why would you even bother posting that ,as its already been said at least twice.
to poseidon32 ,it not hard to flip the latop over and see if there is that one screw in the area of the dvd drive ,if not time to take to the computer repair shop
don't use the don't program don't know it ,but maybe the manual will have some answers for you .
http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/UserManual.html
the athlon xp 3000+ would be the best one ,will you notice the different ,i dough it ,but you might
Ok, when I do that I just touch-n-release right?
yes, just touch the two pins at the same time with a screwdriver and release
the website suggest running in safe mode if it errors ,you probably don't have any rootkit anyway
this is one i have used before and one suggested on most help forums
temporally disable any real time virus protection .disconnect from internet before running, does not work with 64bit windows
Sophos Anti-rootkit just found unknown hidden files which is pretty much trusted for me. I'll try another anti-rootkit just to confirm if it's was a rootkit attack...
i was just going to post the same results for the scan i ran after posting the link, except for some temp file all it found for me was exe file that i had in my download folder ,sorry about that ,sophos is a good name so i thought it would work
try scan with sophos anti rootkit '

hi,try over riding the switch ,if you follow the power switch wire to where it plugs into the mother board ,remove the wire and use a small screwdriver to jump the two pins on the motherboard see how quick it comes on ,good luck

hi, first let me say i don't do programing so i dont have Phython.exe
but would assume that if you do ,then open the phyton.exe program ,and if its anything like most other windows programs, go to File /open and direct it to the .py file you want to open .
hi, the tip/info here should help with your problem .
http://cybernetnews.com/cybernotes-addremove-programs-in-the-open-with-menu/
also when you browse to program do you check box to always use this program to open this file type
what the fudge was this thread started for ,anyway
since February the original poster has not returned ,wonder why
Yeah! Ok! She probably took the drive apart to "dust" it... :-)
no, you missed my point ,she thought the whole tower was called a hard drive
It may be due to some dust in your hard drive. It reduces the performance of the hard drive.
my sister-inlaw .called me on day and said she was having problems with her hard drive ,and asked if i would have a look at it ,i said yes ,she came to my door with here computer tower,i said whats this ,she said my hard drive ,so if you think like my sister-inlaw,then yes it could be a problem with dust .
your father has show
thats it ,thats the answer .
Hi,
yes you can use both windows 7 & xp OS on single PC.
thanks for your input iam sure that hasn't been said in this thread yet ,good on ya
Mine can but i am not sure about his
so, you find out what laptop he has ,look it up ,and then advise to change it if its changeable
Try using another computer and see if there is no problem your laptop graphic card could be old and need to be change
most laptop graphic device chips are not changeable
when i wanna chat with cmd i type the ip address and the message but it just comes up with this The syntax of this command is:
NET
[ ACCOUNTS | COMPUTER | CONFIG | CONTINUE | FILE | GROUP | HELP |
HELPMSG | LOCALGROUP | PAUSE | SESSION | SHARE | START |
STATISTICS | STOP | TIME | USE | USER | VIEW ]
Press any key to continue . . . how do i fix it?
hi, this is a solved thread ,please create your own thread an explain you problem in detail
not unless you edit the name of the movie file and remove the ,THE
you need to have it professionally looked at , to me it seems like you toasted something on the motherboard .
did you try removing the ram chips and try turning it on
i use a Compaq laptop ,and know when my leg starts to burn it time to move the laptop to allow for air flow ,lol
http://www.amtron.com/reader/u111m.htm
i don't use them myself ,and not even sure if it will work ,just reads like it will ,at 200 bucks each,it should i guess
its only 16 bit pcmcia, will not work with 32bit pcmcia cards .
no,every laptop i ever owned or worked on will run with out a battery ,as long as its plugged in with the power cord
try removing the battery ,then plug the power cord in ,and try turning it on
