Werner Vogel, Amazon Web Services (AWS) CTO, speaking at the AWS Summit in London yesterday has made the rather amazing claim that security in the cloud is "much stronger" than anything you can have on-premises. As someone who has been writing about information security for more than 20 years, and covering the cloud security beat for five, I can understand why he may say that. However, it doesn't mean that he was right; not for every customer, not for every implementation. If you are talking about the smaller end of the SME spectrum then, for the most part in my …

Researchers at security company AppRiver have issued a [warning](http://blog.appriver.com/2015/06/amazon-based-malware-targets-crypto-currency/) regarding a variant of the Fareit malware family which is using fake Amazon purchase confirmation emails to inject itself and steal any type of crypto currency that can be found on the target machine. ![amazonmalware.jpg](/attachments/large/0/4ed9d9dbe506fcd950aef08620e1e144.jpg "align-center") Troy Gill, manager of security research at AppRiver, details how his team have been monitoring, and blocking, what he describes as a stream of malicious emails during the last week. Most of you probably have knowledge about the newly released Amazon Fire Phone. I was amazed by its some features especially the ***Dynamic Perspective***, ***Firefly Technology*** and the ***Mayday***. I was curious to know about how these features have been made. In other words, do the ***Dynamic Perspective*** feature is the magic trick of solely the software or simply it is the visual display of the screen or combination of both software and hardware? Similar question is about Firefly feature; I think it is solely software dependent? or the combination of both worlds? Curious to know more from you.....

Amazon has, this week, revealed the first smartphone designed by the online retail giant in the shape of the Amazon Fire. Described by the company as featuring "two new breakthrough technologies that allow you to see and interact with the world through a whole new lens" and by some others as probably "the biggest single invasion of your privacy for commercial purposes ever." The innovations that have led to these two rather different takes are Dynamic Perspective and the Firefly Button. The first, Amazons informs us, is a sensor system that will respond to the way the user holds, views …

So this morning I get an email from Amazon which promises to inform me of some important information about my Amazon Prime membership. This is the subscription service which, in return for an annual charge of £49 here in the UK, provides free next day delivery on any item which is flagged as eligible for Prime members. That may sound like a lot, but actually if you do the math properly it's a pretty good money-saving deal for anyone who falls into the 'regular shopper' category and likes the tracked next day delivery option which usually costs an arm and …

Hi there, I'm utterly desperate (being a total novice at all things php) and am hoping someone can assist. In brief, I have a submission form. User adds url. Output should then display as an image link with the amazon affiliate code. In my template I have the following (which I used previously, but which doesn't seem to work now for some odd reason): <?php $value = $this->value; $options = $this->params->get('params.open_url', 1) ? ' target="_blank"' : ''; echo JHtml::link('http://' .$value[0]['url'].'?tag=romautjudrai-20', "<img src='".JURI::root()."images/library/amazon.png'>", $options ) ; ?> The only thing different is that I am now using Joomla 3, so perhaps …

In a story this week by German news magazine Der Spiegel, I was surprised to learn that German book publishers are actively avoiding the eBook market, fearing it will eat into their print publishing business, instead of seeing it as an obvious new market for consumers to read their books. eBook Market Slow to Grow in Germany For now, the eBook market in Germany is lagging far behind the US and other countries where eBook readers are being sold. In fact, according to numbers cited in the article, 10,000 readers have been sold in Germany. Recent projections have the Kindle …

I have a Django site with a little Jquery script that changes some images when the user puts the curser over the image and then changes it back when the cursor leaves the area. This is my first time trying to deploy a Django site and I am using amazon s3 to host the images. So the site loads correctly and displays the original images, but the original images are linked to in my base.html file - the jquery itself seems to be working correctly, but I get 404 errors for all of the images that the jquery is responsible …

A week may be a long time in politics, but 18 months is an absolute aeon as far as computing is concerned. Back in October 2010 here at DaniWeb I was posing the question of whether the newest [Amazon Kindle could be an iPad killer](http://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/tablets-and-mobile-devices/reviews/315078/amazon-kindle-3-better-than-the-ipad) and came to the almost inevitable conclusion that as far as reading books was concerned, then yes it was. Soon that boot could be on the other foot with ongoing rumours that an iPad Mini will be on sale in time for the seasonal rush at year end, backed up by what are claimed to …

Not sure if this can be done in php or whether I should look at other alternatives. I'm trying to access 4 different sources of data to put on one page - Amazon API, Ebay, our sales data on one server and our inventory data on another server. (Historical reason s for 2 servers) The idea is to scan the UPC into a search box and bring up a page of data with 1. Amazon title, lowest price, image, number of offers and manufacturer. 2. Ebay image for the same UPC 3. Our average sales for this UPC by month …

I know that Apple has been expending a lot of hot air telling anyone who will listen that the new iTunes pricing regime is a good thing for consumers. I know that it reckons that for every song which is ramped up to the new 99p (here in the UK) price it will drop another 10 songs down to the 59p bottom dollar pricing. Trouble is, I also know that music download market runner-up Amazon has taken advantage of consumer confusion surrounding the price changes by jumping in with 100+ songs going for just 29p a pop. Importantly, Amazon has …

My uncle is coming to the UK from the US for Christmas, and I've asked him to get me the Kindle Fire, which comes out in November over there, but there is no UK release date. If he buys it for me there, and beings it home to, will I have any limitations on what I can do with it? Like the kindle store for example, if it's built for the America region, and I choose to use it in the region of Europe, will I not be able to do some things that I'll be able to do there? …

If Apple enters the eBook market, you know it would be expensive, but it would be a desirable device, and come on, you know you would want one. At the time I wrote the original piece, you would have to excuse me if I was a bit cynical. I had been hearing we were one device away from mainstreaming eBooks for years. It has been a long time coming, but the e-book reader had finally arrived. Oh, I appreciate that there have been many stabs at e-book hardware including the Nook and the efforts from Sony, not to mention the claims of iPad fans and Apple with that iBooks app and iTunes App Store integration. Oh, and not forgetting Amazon's own previous efforts with Kindles 1 and 2 of course. The trouble is, frankly, none of them have actually done the job well enough for me to take them seriously enough to consider replacing my paper book reading habit. Some have been …

The federal government and almost all these United States are broke, and so they're considering something we've all at least thought about from time to time: making money off the Internet. There's a fight brewing in Washington, D.C. over an attempt to collect sales tax from online purchases... yet again. The idea is pretty simple - states haven't been able to collect sales tax on most Internet purchases thanks to a 1992 Supreme Court Decision holding that retailers can only charge tax in states where they have a physical presence (yes, all the folks in Kentucky have been getting screwed …

Richard Blumenthal, Attorney General of Connecticut, warned Amazon and Apple yesterday that he wants to have a little talk with them about their "anticompetitive" deals in the electronic publishing market. In his letter, directed to Amazon's General Counsel, L. Such price guarantees are sometimes referred to "most favored nation" (MFN) clauses.
