Re: I think it's really sad that this is actually a *byproduct* of the majority of threads being one-off wehre the OP never returns. I'm more interested in what we can do to rectify that problem in terms of getting them more interested in returning to not just mark the thread …
Re: Use an editor that syntax highlights to help you catch yourself.
Re: I don't have my phone handy right now, but very creative looking QR-like code!
Re: Just to clarify, we don't offer instant notification. The email can take up to an hour after a post is made.
Re: Hi and welcome!! :) | |
Re: To avoid problems with spamming and new members PMing moderators and other members privately instead of in the public forums, new members can only reply to PMs that were sent to them. Which moderator are you trying to reach out to and why?
Re: The TAB? Do you mean a tablet? Huh??
Re: Personally I prefer camel case, username or multipleWordUsername However, I code in PHP, and it's convention there to use all lowercase variables, with words separated by underscores, such as username or user_id Personally I think it's ugly.
Re: Perhaps it's because I run a user-generated content site where I have no control over what people say, but I put no effort into keyword density :) I think if it looks like you're trying to hard, you're just screwing yourself over in the end.
Re: Sitepoint and WebmasterWorld. I also visit forums for forum owners such as BigBoardAdmin and TheAdminZone.
Re: Why does a 4-5 page Jira website take 12 days to complete? *Full* days? I would think a couple hundred bucks.
Re: I'm confused as to exactly what you're asking. There are already lots of webmaster-targeted forums out there (sitepoint.com, searchenginewatch.com, etc). There are also forums out there targeted just to people who own and manage online communities (bigboardadmin.com, etc). Is that what you mean?
Re: Hmm .... sorry, I don't really know of any that are self-hosted, but may I ask why you want to self-host your eCommerce solution instead of outsourcing to something like Shopify? It can turn into a pain with having to deal with SSL certificates and credit card processing.
Re: Because of the weird date picker we use. You have to select '81 in the dropdown, and then the dropdown will repopulate going back another 20+ years. Aside from that, you can manually type in a year into the text box instead of selecting it from the dropdown.

Re: The edit button does automatically disappear. This only happens if you visit the page just at the cusp of the expiration window, where you load the page (where the edit button appears) just before the edit timeframe is up, but you actually *click* the edit button just after the edit …
Re: Hi Suzie, Yes, I agree with you. Unfortunately, we have Google Ads on the topic pages, and it violates Google's Terms of Service to have dropdown menus that could potentially cover up part of their ads. That's the reason.

Upgraded my computer from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. It's on a domain that uses Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2. In doing so, Windows Server Essentials no longer detects the computer. Do I have to run that /connect tool again??
Re: Do *you* agree? I think that different social media platforms work best with different audiences, and I would agree that Pinterest is better than FB/Twitter when it comes to eCommerce, especially towards the end of the sales funnel.
Re: Yes, you're missing something :) When you do a lost password request, it changes your password to a random unknown combination of characters, and logs you into the edit profile page. You need to reset your password to something and save that. At this point, your password is some unknown … ![]()

Re: I have no clue what a PTC site is. What are you talking about??
Re: Click on 'Edit Profile' at the top of any page. (Or click [this link](http://www.daniweb.com/members/edit_profile). Scroll to the bottom of the page and tick the little checkbox.
Re: Oh, that's incredibly strange. You're supposed to have a black X next to the room name. What OS / browser combo?
Re: Validating country domains seems like a silly way of validating email addresses. .com is a valid domain but dani@skdjflksdfjlksd.com is not a valid email address :) I would use regex on the part before the @ to make sure there are no invalid characters and to test its length, etc. …
Re: The flag is removed if you change the email address in your profile. You'll need to change it to something else, and then change it back to the email you want to use. I should probably change this so that editing your profile always clears the flag, eh?
Re: Yes, that's Fred you see making a cameo. I'll take care of this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Not too many members with transparent avatars!
Re: Mike, as agilemind points out, often major tech companies buy out startups that developed technology, because it's easier than having to reinvent the wheel. Why put a team on a project developing technology X for two years when they can just buy a company that already perfected it for half …

I've been in bed with the flu for the past week and haven't even looked at my computer. I'm finally starting to feel better! I'm going through everything that I missed, slowly but surely, but I'm likely not going to catch *everything*. Were there any important things that I missed …
Re: > Seeing them used for corporate advertising. "Like us to see our special offers", etc.. Dishonest. I don't see that as dishonest at all. Special offers aren't a "right" that you are entitled to as the consumer. It's the company's perogative to ask for you to do something for them …
Re: Try turning personal results on or off, or even try logging out of Google+ entirely when you conduct your google searches. You'll find that results tend to be customized to your own browsing behavior, so logging out and clearing cookies throws a few settings back to default

Re: It's not just the number of posts. It's also how long you've been a member. I believe, if memory serves me correctly, you need to be a member for at least 5 days. |
