I didnt realize just how bad it was until the other day!

We have an XP upstairs and i use IE7 when im on that one and it has EVERY TOOLBAR enabled and looks disgusting!!! (Yahoo,Norton, etc)

I uncheck "lock toolbar" and then hide all the xtra garbage then click "lock toolbar" again.

Then i open a new tab OR close it all together and restart it and ALL THE TOOLBARS ARE BACK!! (My customization didnt hold) I have tried it 3 times aleady......

What a piece of crap...... (Im surprised the PHISHING FILTER remains disabled)

/rant over

you would have to close the browser after disabling the toolbars, then open again. also its best to disable those toolbars through the plugins console, tool >manage add ons

if you are not getting any signal on the monitor then it would point to the mother board, though not definitive. seeing that you swap Mother board and it booted then it would point to the board.

a .N2K not sure what type of file that is but it will not do. So her old profile is lost from the server. do you have a set of backup. Don't know how often you backup so it might take some digging. for example the day the new profile was created can you go back a few days maybe one day and check you backup and see if the old profile is there. then import the settings to the new one. if this is just a inconvenience it might not be worth the time or trouble. tell her to type over the emails and save then to her network store so they can be backed up each time a back up is done. so if next year her profile get mess up you can recreate and then she will still have the back up of the emails

I have a user's laptop which is currently running XP Media Center. In order to connect his notebook to the domain, I have to reformat and reinstall as XP Pro. One problem... it appears that his hard drive is SATA and I can't get the XP install disk to see the SATA drive, so it won't install.

I did go to the HP website and downloaded the drivers, but I don't think those are going to work for installing Windows as they are in EXE format, even after unpacking the "service pack" file that HP uses to distribute them. At least nLite didn't appear to recognize the files as driver files -- it was expecting inf files, which are not included.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to get Windows to install on this beast? Model is a Pavilion DV8235nr.

Ok. so to fix this issue how about booting with the windows Xp cd and choose recover console and format the HDD. or use a utility disk to clean the HDD then install XP

is the battery charged on the Laptop. let it remain on power for 2 hours then turn on. Some laptop will not power on if the battery is totally dead. Also can you check the CMOS battery.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

micheal is correct and to add different programs call on the service hence the many instances you will see in the process tab in task manager. However, you should always check the spelling one letter off means it's a malware/spywaye. type this at your command prompt Open a command prompt and enter: tasklist /svc this will show you a list of whats running on each svchost.exe

welcome to Daniweb

I must say i agree with Josh, why should it matter how you kill someone who is trying to kill you, on top of it, when the media is captured they want the -same military to rescue them any means necessary. but let them shoot a 12 year old boy who shot at them or if they kill a suicide bomber. we would not hear the end of it.

The media definitely release too much Quote " in the news today we are on High security alert All vehicle entering the city will be search" why tell the terrorist so then can make other arrangement or just attach somewhere else you are not protecting.

joshSCH commented: Precisely. :) +12

i am not before a server right now so i can't walk you through step by step. But its quite similar to right clicking on the directory choose properties then go to the security tab. and use the advance button. you can add user and chooses how they have access to the directory. if you use AD you can add a share folder set the permissions then add user or groups to have certain permission on the share folder.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

That is kinda weird. so could it be the CPU was the problem or some restriction on the CPU that would not allow the user to see the printer.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

@ Starband, what type of sound. is it during the bios screen, when you initially push the power buttons. the last time it was used how was it turned off. does the light on the monitor comes on green or stays orange? Be as detailed as you can so that we can help

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

As i said if its on the server the admin would have to find that old profile (if it was backed up) and export the email setting. to the new profile.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I have a 40 GB hard drive loaded with windows xp home that has been converted to an external hard drive and an old emachines 333i loaded with windows 98 that crashed. I'm wondering if I bring the 32 bit DDRam up to minimum system requirements for xp if I can instal the 40 GB hard drive into the older machine and it will work without any other major modifications? If so will it operate fast enough with the processor speed so close to the minimum requirements or will it be too slow to bother with. Thanks.

The answer to this is never straight forward. In actuality you can. But realistically NO.
1 the hard disk when powered on in the old PC will start to recognized ALL the hardware attached and will require drives in some case (headache here) if and when you get that done you would have to activate the software again. you need the key and it still might not activate because the Key is stored at Microsoft with a specific machine code the first time you activate. and base on the spec on this Windows PC definitely a NO

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

you are welcome, Anytime.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

go into your file server ands et the permission you want for each user and yes you can make the folder read only. as for moving the file all these can be done from the server side. disable copy, move but enable create shortcut. you can also create user profile in Active Directory and set the permission and type of access then have to different folders and files.

There are numerous software you can try to recover your HDD
R-Studio
Nucleus
most work in demo mode to give you an idea how well you data will be recovered.

For future reference when you use a restore CD it WILL wipe everything from you HDD including partitions. Basically it put the PC back to the state when you got it from the manufacturer

Do a search and choose something thats right for you. there are also free utilities you can use

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

These are technical documents you can read to get information on a software/hardware basically to educate you on how to make a decision if you are going to purchase the product. So in other words a sort of sales pitch

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

If her profile was recreated she would loose the .pst file that was associated to her account. you can try searching(search in hidden folders) on her PC for a *.pst file this will have all her recent email activity. once you find the file you can open outlook and import that pst file into outlook that will give her back what ever was saved. bare in mind if her email profile was being saved to a server then the administrator would have to find it and import it to her new profile.

If you use outlook on an exchange server MOST times your email profile is saved on the server. this give you access to all email no matter what pc you log onto when at work.

The reputation points are just a way for other to say thanks you for the great suggestion and the assistance you provided.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

really? did you try. It's as simple as going to system properties and got to computer name tab. rename the PC and type the name of the domain.

Then go to control panel and change the way users log on.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

basically you really don't need to be RUNNING all those at the same time. You need a firewall an Antivirus and Adware/spy ware. you can get all that in one program like norton that you are running now ( but costly to subscribe) a VERY good free one is Zonealarm contains a firewall, an application control, an Internet lock, and you can use an additional spyware/malware program,

Running too may of the same program will only bog down your system, But it's your choice. AS LONG AS THE PROGRAM DON'T CAUSE EACH OTHER TO CRASH YOU pc.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

why go through all the headache. why not just rename the PC and type the name of the domain it is to join, If it is using Static IP set those if not set to automatic DHCP.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

and to add when you get in the bios let us know if the drive is detected.

if the CPU fan is not working you will need to replace it. I don't know the configuration of your HP PC but all CPU's are help in place with some sort of clip and the fan is either held in place with a clip or by screws. If you are not confident that you can remove it get a technician to help.

you might be missing some codec and other decompresser for the video format. A good FREE program is DIVX. Also if you have all the correct DVD codec /decompresser you can use windows media player to play any DVD.

AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER put you mouse until it turns into a 2 headed arrow. Then hold and drag the box to fill the screen. you can do the same for the top left corner also. when you have it to the size you want, click on file then hold the shift key and click on close. now open IT and it will be at the same size you set.
