when you are going to put in a range expander you firt need to do a few things. power down and disconnect all present wireless devices. power off the router, ( hope you can get that done) power off the expander. power up the router,then the range expander. you are going to need access to the pc with the router to add the range expander ( for linksys i know you can log into the range expander or configure by pressing a button on the expander) don't know about yours, manual should be able to guide you from there.

try changing the cable on the drive. and if you have both drives on one cable set one to slave and one to master.
Also try using one drive connected at a time to rule out a damaged drive.

Click tool Option, on the preference tab click Email options, then click advance email options, make sure draft are save in the draft folder and put a check mark beside "In folder other than the inbox, save replies with original message".

I bought a new computer which has Vista and a wireless modem. It worked perfectly until 3 months ago when every 1-2 days the Internet and Email will suddenly stop working and give error message such as page cannot be displayed.

But I can ping, the network and sharing centre still says I am connected, including the little 2 computer icons at the bottom right and says I have an excellent signal etc, I can still use my laptop via the same modem at this time. The only way to fix it is to restart my computer. When having this problem, my laptop can see my computer but my computer can't see my laptop.

I contacted my ISP who said they can't help me as it can't be a modem problem. I contacted Dell who told me it looks like it is a software problem (which I don't have warrenty for) but put me through to a Dell software guy as a good will gesture who told me the modem is hanging and to switch the computer off at night but this didn't work.

the wireless is not going to show if it's disabled. even in a disconnected state you would see media disconnected. And encryption is when you use a passphrase to protect your wireless. You would have to enter a series of codes to to be able to connet to the network.

have you rebooted the comcast modem. and when you attched the ethernet cable do you get a link and activity/data light at the ethernet port on you pc, green on one side and orange on the other. when you remove the cable do you get a message that network cable unplug. how many ethernet ports do you have on the pc. are you configured for DHCP or static IP and what setting does comcast have you set to static or DHCP

do you have the drivers installed for the NIC, have you tried another cable, switch the end of the cable. are you using a router between the modem and Pc.

first you want to choose the topology, star, bus, mesh, ring, token. You have already choosen a WAN. now you need to decide what it will be used for to determine what type of support you will need, 24 hours support, contracted support (remote admin), internal support (help desk) this can be very expensive so be careful on how you choose, you dont want to create an unrealistic cost, as IT can be very costly.

i know why you were not getting any response. you were not specific, as to what type of freeze up you are getting, sure DVD playback freezes, but describe the freeze, is it the video, is it the sound, are video and sound out of sync, (audio not keeping up with video) video freezes and sound continue to play?. are you using an onboard sound card or a pci card.

you can copy any data your want from the old hard drive onto the new one HOWEVER you cannot copy the installed program from the old hard drive onto the new for them to work you would have to do fresh install of all those programs that were on the old hard drive, onto the new hard drive.
What Caperjack meant is you can format the old hard drive from winthin the new windows after you have move all the data you need to the new hard drive

the new hard drive should come with a cd you can sue to accomplish this data transfer. or you can set up the new drive install an operating system then manually transfer your data. boot from the cd you got with the new drive and look for the option to transfer date from an old drive.

here are a few things you have to do first. the IDE drive have to be set as the primary drive, and it MUST be set as the first boot option or press F8 at the bios screen to get the boot menu then select the IDE drive to boot from. HOWEVER, the drive Partition you are installing to MUST be set as the primary active partition. you would have to use some 3rd party program to accomplish this, Acronis, Partition magic, or Fdisk.

Sone thing went wrong with your boot INI file from inside vista, go into statrup and look at the boot ini file. see if the partition that XP is installed on is showing in the boo ini . or you can try using vista Boot pro

In safe mode click on start run, type msconfig, go tot the startup tab and take notes of all the itmes with a check make. then disable all. restart the pc

Do you have a build in sound card or a PCI card.
get the latest drives for it and install. as for the sound and playback change that from modem to the name of your card.
as for not able to play sound because device is in use. the update should fix this. some other program that uses the sound channel does not realease, after finish using it, hence the error message.

1. i was able to do up until the 'check use default device only'. the defauld device for sound playback and sound recording is 'Modem #0', which i'm quite sure of, is not my sound device. i have built-in modem in my motherboard. note also, that i have 'No audio device.' in the sound tab.

2. the volume control is not displayed in my system tray.

3. in the sounds tab, when i press 'Play' to hear any windows sound, for example, Asterisk, this message pops: Windows cannot play the sound %SystemRoot%\media\Windows XP Error.wav. Your sound card may be in use.

when you post a log you MUST tell us whats happened and the reason you are posting a log. we cannot help if we dont have the relevant information.

this is winvnc. if it's not in your add remove How did it get on your pc. did you install it? go to programs files and look for the directory asociated with the file, see if ther is an uninstall file there you can double click to remove the program. if not you have to stop the service first.go to control panel, >administrative tools, > services scroll down and look for the service and stop it then set it to manual. then click start>run type msconfig look for the same files name and directory where you had found it installed, remove the check mark then restart the pc.

look in windows explorer and what is the the drive letter, right click my computer and choose manage, then go to disk management. and loook at the partitions, what is the status of the disk. and is the disk labeled as C: Healthy(system) are then any other partition

before you install XP you MUST partition the drive, UNLESS you want to wipe Vista from the disk.

power off the pc, connect the drive then power up the pc if it's not recognized, try a different usb slot. and ensure the usb is ebabled in the BIOS

try reinstalling first, then if that does not fix the problem, do a system update, if that does not fix the problem then you can do a restore.

1. when i watch dvds from nero essentials and play videos and files from windows media player, but when i watch youtube videos, and watch videos from flv player, there are no sounds!

cleaning the system will take some time, considerably longer than doing a format and clean install ( but i am going to assume you don;t have the Xp cd to do a clean install) in the mean time download and run combofix, and vondufix then run an online virus scanner like panda or kapersky

upgrading from XP to vista in NOT a good idea, clean install or a new PC with vista is better. Vista is definitely easier with certain features. but it will take some getting use just like how we had to adjust when XP came out.

for his sake i hope you are not correct caperkack. because if he only copied, by creating a shortcut then he is in deep you know what. check the file that are saved on the drive and ensure that the little shortcut arrow is not on the files. and follow the advised nanosani post to take permission of the folder that your are getting assess denied on.

each person that is sharing their calendar with this one particular person MUST set that share on their PC first. Create a unique name for the calander (First name last name) then right clcik on the calendar choose the permission tab add the person name who you want to share with, and set they type of permission. make sure to check folder visible. then on the administration tab select the view and all user with access permission. then go to the persons pc and add the calendar by selecting the name from the address book.

Ok, so here is what i have been trying to get an answer to for a long time.
when you are browsing the forum, from page 1, you see no post to respond to, you move on to, page 3 See attachment #4 you click on a post to make a responses See attachment #2. once you type your response and submit it, your post shows up at the bottom. So you are done with that and want to go back to page 3 but there is no way of getting Directly back to page 3. You would have to click on one of these link See attachment #5 which will take you back to page 1, basically the start, then you have to click the page 3 button to continue on page 3.

If I was to use the browser back button to get back to page 3 a few things happens
1: I will be taken back to where i had just type my response to the previous post. then another click on back will take me to page 3
2: the Post i just responded to, will show bold as if i had never read it. See attachment #3
3: said post will be in the same position. and not at the #1 page at the top showing that it was just responded to ( to other it might show) but using the back button gives this effect.

Hi all,

Have a slight annoyance with outlook 2003 shared calenders.

Permissions are set for a particular user to view around 4 calenders and edit etc however when she goes to view the calender she can do so but it doesnt put the persons name onto the calender when viewing and it also doesnt keep the person she is viewing in the shared calenders on the left hand side with the tick option to view at any time.

I have tried re-creating the permissions from the other mailboxes, adding delegates, adding perms on the mailboxes in AD, re-installing outlook and applying sp2 & 3 updates. (a bit exteme I know but this is soooo annoying)

I hope this makes sense?? Any help is much appreciated.

windows is set to that amount of character by default, and WHY would you want to create a folder with 255 characters.. twaeking the registry to do this is not a good idea. you are messing with system preferences and windows will not play nice if you mess around

Also bear in mind the 255 character is not just for the folder you are creating, the sub folders and file within that folder is taken into consideration to get the 255 character

And no you can't back up mcafee then put it on the new system if you have a current subscription you can download and install on the new system. to keep your current setting do an upgrade to ultimate
