most bios have a F3 key to detect hdd. if u are not able to detech the hdd that way, u definately want to check the cable as caperjack stated. ensure the cable is oriented correctly, and the jumber is correct on the hdd.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

u might want to check the settings in the gate, are these frest installs also. check windows virtual mem setting or set the game to operated in a dos emulation.

your laptop would have to support the di
ual display feature, go into display setting and go to the settings tab there you should be able to config the monitors if the feature is on the laptop

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

there is a FN key (in blue) and another key with a shape of a monitor on it (in blue) hold the Fn key and press the key with the monitor icon on it. u might have to do it a few times but pause in between eg hold Fn press monitor key, if nothing show on the external monitor let goo of the keys then do it over.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

he would not be able to open the files unless he has the program on his computer. means if u want hin to read a letter you wrote in microsoft word on your pc, he would have to have microsoft word installed on his pc to read the file, sure sharing will allow him to see the file but he will not be able to open them unless he has the associated program for that file, in your case money 99.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

what bios is on your pc, award, pheonix ami , is it one long continous beep or a series of beeps

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

are u accessing the files through money program on his computer????

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso
bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

if want user to to be able to save file you should create directories for each user and give access then create limits on them ( so they dont eat up the hdd)

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yes that is correct, bobbyraw

then u would need access to the server to run a remote program that will allow your pc access, ultra vnc or pc anywhere

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

ok first u need to system resources.memory howmuch u have, hdd space how big is it compare to your pagefiles. then u have to clean up autostart programs bot in msconfig and the registry. clean temp directories and temp internet files and dont forget the prefetch directory. defrag with a commercial program like diskeeper, as for service to stop and start follow this link
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/

give a break down off all processes that you might find on windows

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

i know u might have solved this , but a word of wisdom, get a good spyware/adware, firewall and antivirus for your pc, some recommendations, for spyware= spybot or adaware, for firewall = zonealarm and for antivirus = avg alll mentioned are free, and very capable is u keep updating them

Now close the post as solved

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

u can use a program name ophcrack
download here
http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ then burn to a cd, set computer to boot from cd drive it will do the rest and reveil the password for all accouns on the pc

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

what is the purpose of this HJT list, we are great here but not mind readers what whats heppening y u had to post a HJT list.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yeah u can wipe the hdd if u have a bootable xp cd, there are utility that u can use to get the account passwords but u would need internet to get them.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

so u need access to the server where the data base is stored

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

@ guns
yes they normally do but u can clear all partition and install you own operating system, however if u are trying to do a restore if that partition is missing it would not work.

i have formated a windows me dell pc and put xp on it and it runs fine, juts had to the dell site to get the drivers,

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yes and the size of the hdd will dictate that it has to be ntfs to install xp.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

is this cd bootable??????

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

do u have any bootable windows 98 cd, or any cd with a fdisk utility. base on what you are saying this hdd is fat and cause cause proble, also if it have damage clusters. run chkdsk from the recocery console and check the hdd.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

try pressing enter to see if it will boot from the cd when u get the prompt

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

check here this will guide u how to reset the ip

http://www.mepisguides.com/fti/cox/169-data-for-Cox-Tier-I.html

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

i am not sure what option u would use for your laptop, just before the the pc POST or go into the bios and set the cd as the first boot option.

as for chacking the floppy u would eed another pc to do that either by looking at the files on the floppy (IO.sys,command.com and config.sys) are some of the file that should be on the floppy (they may be hidden) or power up the pc sitht he floppy in the drive but he bios would have to be set to boot from floppy as the first option.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

check the ip address on the computer, if u have a 169 they will not connect

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

what the laptop boot up select the option for boot sequence. probable F1 F2 F8 F11 and choose to boot from cd, if u still get the error message, check the cd for scratches and check the cd drive make sure it is connected properly(if it's a ejectable drive bay) and check to make sure the laser is clean. lastly make sure the cd or floppy is bootable

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

what is the error message u are getting?

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

here is what u need to do, boot withthe xp cd go to the repair console, run fdisk, check howmany partition are on the hdd, delete all and make one partitions, then do a format. when u get to the install section if it ask to format the partition do the full format.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

no no
the hdd that was already in the computer does it have 2 ends on it, one pugged into the hdd and a spare one, that's the end you should conn to the second hdd. then the second hdd should be jumper to slave (see image attached) the white block is the jumper look on the hdd for which setting to place the jumper for slave, on your mobo u will have 2 ide channel one for primary and one for secondary, if u only have 1 hdd use the primary for both master and slave.........u must set THE FIRST HDD TO MASTER OR MASTER WITH SLAVE, the ide cable listed is or should be simular too what u have in the pc, the blue end to the mobo, the last connector to the master hdd and the midle one to the slave.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

did u get a set of restore cd with the computer?

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

it does not amtter where windows is reporting the devices to be, just follow caperjack link

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Help

according to this quote, what kind of sound coud u have heard when u connect a hdd if there is no power to the computer. chack the ide cable make sure it's plugged in correctly, some ide cable come with a nothc on the outside and a block pin on the cabe. other done have this and can be incorrectly connected.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

seeing that u can't boot to any mode u will need to have the win xp cd to resole this. the computer error is reffereing to config.nt file in the system32 directory.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

did u change any hardware configuration recently?

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

here is my question to this ongoing saga. if u dont have a win xp cd when u format you hdd what are u going to put on it? u cannot format a hdd unless u put some type of media in aither the cd drive or the floppy. do u have any other windows cd?

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

are u trying to get to a specific pc in the office if so u have to get access throught the servers and u would need the static ip for the server that the pc is connected to. remember there are firewall on the server so those will deny access to the desktops pc's

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

for all those who are getting the dll error when the stat the pc do this

click start>run type msconfig, go to the startup tab and remove any reference to the dll file. then go to the windows\system32 or system directory to revome the file. if u are comfortabe with the registry u can do this in the registry also.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

there are many files that can be executed without having the exe extentions. but those file are associted by default to different program. for eg html is associated to web browsers, doc is associated word processors. changing the extension does not do any good for the file, that will not change the program coes in that file. for eg if u change a mp3 to exe thet file would not play. if the admin allow you to run certain file then surely u can play, run those files but thats about it. the thing about exe files when u run them they try to access system area on the pc, registry, windows\system and system32 directories, and that what the admin have lock down. but ttake a file like google protable can be installed because it does not depend on system area to run

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

straight up there is no way to run an exe file without the admin permission, renaming it will not help

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

no u cant and this is the reason y they done allow employees to run file, on a computer. if u are tyring to do this think carefully about your job, do u love u want to keep it. just use the company pc for company work?? just so u know any time u try to do some thing on the pc that restricted by admin, the admin get a notification. u can be fired for this, whatever u need to do do it on your own pc

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

did u plug the hdd in with the pc powered on??????????????????????

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

ok did u set the jumpers on each hdd the second should be set to slave and the first set to master or master with slave, also the master disk should be at the end of the ide cable. i also suggest that u go into the bios just before the pc boot and ensure the disk are recognized are you have set them. also make sure u are connecting to the primary ide (main boot cable)

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

is this a laptop or destop pc u have if desktop open the case and connect the hdd as a sleve to the primary ide cable or as a slave to a sata port if thats what u have
