You may want to put all the posts you made today in a single post but first read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question

Yes, you didn't ask a question but I bet there was one.

As I read this I have the impression you are new to multiple core systems and how an app can spawn itself to respond to each port handler.

That is, all skill levels arrive here so in your app, just go ahead and code your system to handle it as you wish and then use the IP API calls to register your app to handle the requests. The OS might spawn your app and use another CPU or thread without you working hard.

In parting, I take it you need to revisit how OSes like Linux do this today. That is, I never code to replace what the host OS does for me.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Siberian. Remember I'm going to take the straight and narrow what the Windows Guest account is. So if you have other account creation issues, it's something else. Just my luck I have a client's machine in running W10 and they can't create user accounts.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This just in. Chinese 10,000 phone Like Farm. You can check it out on https://www.google.com/search?q=10%2C000+phone+like+farm

This is the other reason I don't put much value in likes. It can be faked and those that chase after likes are at a severe disadvantage if they don't have a big farm.

Hope you see where this is going.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@RJ. Like some folk they read on the web it slows down the machine so nope. When I get around to it I"m going to use my usual Linuxfoo and that Accessibility method to get into this one. After the files are safe, my bet is a clean install. May have to go the other route of removing the HDD, install a new SSD and clean install putting the old HDD into the usual USB case.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I think you have to be careful when talking about the Guest account. It's built in and we don't create another.

Can you share a tutorial about creating a Guest account? I am not asking for a tutorial on creating the usual user account.

And in parting, today or tommorrow I have a chance to work on a blown Windows 10 OS. The owner did something and they can no longer create a local login account for anyone else. It's not a bug either. They did something but forgot what.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Just so you know, give it a little time on replies here. I've seen it lag on posting so right or wrong, don't do the Mr. Monk and go "Lobby, lobby, lobby, lobby..."

I think you have a much bigger idea you want to ask for ideas how to implement as I read a few of your recent posts. It's like I'm one of the blind men describing the elephant. In other words rather than dole out what your scheme is in small pieces, why not show off the entire elepant?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'd get to the Microsoft forums on this one. Or just call it in.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/946205/error-message-when-you-try-to-open-a-compiled-database-file-or-a-compiled-project-file-in-access-2007-this-database-is-in-an-unrecognized-format is errily similar and what I'm finding are machines that are not current with service packs or updates.

-> Side note: This is partially why a new ransomware is spreading so quickly.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

No bug in my view. There's only one Guest account and it's built in. I can see why some might call that a bug but it's not.

Here's your clue it's permissions, ownership or rights.

The share folder working as I tested it though guest account,

Either continue using the Guest feature or take time and maybe a course on this area.

February 2013, Microsoft announced that SQL Server Compact Edition had been deprecated.

Many systems need longer life spans so your choice to start with a deprecated product.

I don't see enough to give you a straight answer so I'll write you should use VS's debugging tools and break on line 5 or 6 so you can examine what text came back.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Ahh, the old "write once, run everywhere" idea. If that's the goal, you do give up platform, machine specific enhancements. I don't want to cover this old ground but want to encourage you to pick your goals and run towards them FAST before someone else gets there.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I have to guess the issue is speed. If speed is the issue, create your app natively with Android Studio. If you want a web app, you go that way if that's your goal.

In short, pick your goals, find tools, go at it.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Siberian. Now that I know you are using reservation it's hardly ever that. I worried you had used hard assignment but in either case you check your IP and netmask and you are done for that step. It's not like you are going outside your LAN (or are you?)

Did you test this with the Guest account enabled? Just to see if that works?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@MrM Now I see it. Don't know why my eyes skipped to the next line.

Anyhow, in your code you can change the text of an object using the example I gave. It does not have to be in the button control.

I get the feeling you want someone to write the code for you. So I worry you are on a very old version of VS but in the line of code you call out the control or form name, property you want to change and change it. As in the example link shows.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

There are so many Linux distros and no offense intended the struggle with Windows non-server sharing plus the firewall issues have me wondering if you are so close.

Not just you but I've found seasoned programmers that get hung over the firewalls everywhere problem. While I try to be clear you must be in command, many just want it to work without the time that needs investing.

Summary? Start with all firewalls in all devices off. Be sure your permissions, accounts, and ownerships are perfect.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Workgroup. Check.

IP for preferred DNS. Since workgroup doesn't use that, I'll write no reason to change. I'm going to copy something I keep in a sticky on another forum since so many want to debate the fireware issues. Ready?

Your router's firewall can block many features. You have a choice here to turn it off or dig in and find out what ports and more to allow. Given the cost of support and the fact that routers in the past never did this, my vote for those that don't want to become Network Ninja Gurus is to turn it off.

With that out of the way, an example from a router I recently discussed.

See Page 43: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/DGN2200/DGN2200_UM_3Feb11.pdf

Your modem router has a firewall that blocks unauthorized access to your wireless network and permits authorized inbound and outbound communications. Authorized communications are established according to inbound and outbound rules. The firewall has the following two default rules. You can create custom rules to further restrict the outbound communications or more widely open the inbound communications:
• Inbound. Block all access from outside except responses to requests from the LAN side.
• Outbound. Allow all access from the LAN side to the outside"

Notice how an inbound access from WiFi is blocked? You'll want to change that.
Page 44 (using the page counter in the PDF viewer) shows the default is BLOCK ALWAYS.

This means features like access to a DLNA, NAS or other …

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Mr.M. I'd also reveal what IDE and OS this is in. I can guess it's Visual Studio and Windows but don't leave that for all to guess. Either use the tags or just call it out.

I recall in Visual Studio on a C++ app I think there is no handle until the window is created. What article or app tried to do that?

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.form.load(v=vs.110).aspx?cs-save-lang=1&cs-lang=cpp#code-snippet-1 shows a C++ app changing the text of an object. No HWND there.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Jack, you can catch up and learn that skill with tutorials. I see them with this search.
https://www.google.com/search?q=psuedocode+tutorial

My quick answer is that psudocode is you writing down the steps to complete your task.

In life you do this all the time. If you need to wash the dishes, you could break it down to steps that others could follow. For coding you design your app/system by thinking out how to accomplish the goal then writing it down. If a step can't be converted into code, then you break down that step to smaller steps until you can code it.

Now that I slept on it, I wonder if a DIY approach works. Try the DISPLAY app from http://noeld.com/programs.asp#Display and if that works, use your method to autohotkey or use AHK (AutoHotKey) to make it happen.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Hi Hector,

Most of us won't like you since you can mine for data. Example? Here you go.
I want to add this as an identify theft PSA. An experiment at a coffee shop gave out a free cup when you liked them. What happened?

Coffee shop offers customers a free coffee in exchange for 'liking' their shop on Facebook but they also get...their personal details handed back to them. The time it takes the customer to 'like' and order, the team have their name, occupation, mothers maiden name, place of birth, likes, interests and lots of other personal details, all written on the cup. This was an experiment to show how easily we all leave ourselves wide open to identity theft.

So beyond what I wrote above, there are other reasons to not share with you in Facebook.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

We've been kicking around network sharing for a long time here. I doubt this time it's DHCP but you can check that by checking the IPs and the netmask. Do that first.

With that out of the way the most common reason I'm bumping into is firewalls in the router. Some of them block just the WiFi to wired machines and other variations. So you must be in command of all the firewalls.

That out of the way are you using which of the three common folder sharing methods in Windows 10?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Just to add to this. It appears some versions work and others do not. I'm reading https://communities.intel.com/thread/109313 about this.

Is this another Dell?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Can you clarify what line 3 is?
I get the Me but what is Selista2BindingSource? It's not a stock thing in VB.net so tell more.

Also be sure to ask a question. Some folk dump and run and you're never sure what the question was.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Some models have us call in to reset that password if methods you find on the web don't work.

Be ready to prove it's yours since when the maker does this it's a form of theft protection. The makers sometimes get flamed over this but hey, if it's yours legitimately, it's like you locked your keys in your car and pay a little to the locksmith.

It must be worth it to get this done, right?

As a researcher you would find papers, web articles and more. But if I take your prior question at https://www.daniweb.com/programming/software-development/threads/508276/what-is-the-scope-of-advanced-embedded-system into the view I have to wonder where you are in your schooling.

Tell me a little more so I can give you a better direction. I'm just someone that happens to have designed, worked on single board systesm as well as system on chip and a few works on Android.

I'm ready when you ask a more specific question.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Is this on bog standard hard disks? Try it on the new spiffy fast SSDs.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'm going to write don't do this. To maintain speed, almost all networking is done in C or maybe, C++. It's rarely done in something like Python.

Python for quick things like the systems program shown or for prototyping C programs, and C for programs where the time taken to process information matters more.

Read more at http://theunixgeek.blogspot.com/2008/09/c-vs-python-speed.html

I'm sure you googled this like https://www.google.com/search?q=signature+based+packet+inspection+system+using+python but if you want to create this, my advice is to get into compiled languages.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Robots, code forcing likes? Bad robot, sit, stay.

PS. Adding with edit. This is a bad idea in my opinion since it sounds like you seem to want to robotically create likes. If folk were able to do this than it's a useless measure since a robot/code can generate likes and the system we have is now worthless.

I'm reminded of something Douglas Adams wrote.

Thank you. Since we decided a few weeks ago to adopt the leaf as legal tender, we have, of course, all become immensely rich.

Take a moment to consider this is like telling a car repair shop your car won't start but you don't tell make, model and much else. It matters.

Without that I can't tell what you mean by the lightbulb.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I've never seen this happen. We must have had dozens of Android devices since 2009. Maybe the card is bad or needs a fresh format.

PS. Adding this with edit. Now I do recall when I tried to pop the 64GB card into an Android that only supported up 32GB. It didn't work. Maybe others have stories to add.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I used that method in Android 4.x and 5.x so I have to ask you to reveal more. Such as are you setup to debug an app and if you write apps?
Maybe the answer here is if you don't actually do this work is to find another developer to get in there.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Well it's a legit language but for many reasons you rarely see it in the wild. And given it's not something your average code monkey can't deal with, it's best left to the curious.

Here's an online visualizer.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Or it's ownership, permission, location issue. When you place a NTFS drive on another PC, when it goes back you might have to use an elevated command prompt to DIR /A to see the files then use TAKEOWN or other tools to take ownership of the folder and files.

However I had hoped you would have revealed detail. That is, some poor soul was trying to replace files in the Windows folder and getting upset about Windows File Protection or WFP.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This is still the same problem. How to deal with a stuck screw. I use my pliers, needle nose with serrated grip surface or cut a slot in the screw head to use a flat blade screwdriver.

The Google I shared noted the hammer method too. Not everyone is as handy as Red Green so get help or just RMA the case as defective.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Tell more. There is some issue if you put folders in Windows or such. So next time drop it in a new user's folder and then don't use File Exporer. Use the command line (DIR /A).

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Hi Leeroy,
Your post sounds like you are putting this up for hire. Finish your post with how much your are paying, what currency and more.

Also, be sure to read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question in case this wasn't a job you were shopping out.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Read the reply at https://www.daniweb.com/programming/computer-science/threads/508547/need-help-with-a-graphics-sorter

I think you need to read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question FIRST.

I don't mind looking at the line of code you say is problematic or for advice on algorithm but here you seem to be dumping code. You need to do more and add what the issue is and where.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I have to assume you are using the standard Android Studio here. Read https://developer.android.com/studio/debug/index.html about how you debug either by setting breakpoints, single stepping and using the system log.

These are basic developer skills that you will have to develop and use to find where the issue is.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Many people write this starts at home. You clean your house first if you are in the cleaning business.

For web design you may have trouble since your site has some 100 plus warnings and errors given by
https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.metrikhive.in%2F

It's like having a ragged dirty business card with spelling and grammar errors.

My advice is clean up your web site, and do the usual Facebook, LinkedIn and spread the word among family and friends. Be detail oriented since slap dash web work is common and quality is king.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

For me it depends on what I see and what tools I have. If I can get my pliers on the head I can apply a little more torque than a screwdriver.
https://www.google.com/search?q=removing+a+stubborn+screw finds a Wiki-How on screw extraction using the hammer method as well.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

While some answer "line by line" others note the issue of cognitive dissonance. That is, at some point you back up to what you were trying to do and implement it in the language you need it to be in.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I have to give a nod to priors on this one. Here's how I'd do my research.
