Nod to JamesCherrill.
My work involved and still does getting products out of the engineering cycle and into the world or production.
One of our company's best methods for doing that is to produce or use what is known as "the user manual." If you read books you may find this method in "The HP Way." While HP in my opinion has lost their way since about 2000 what we learned is this: If the product functions exactly as described in the user manual then you may completed your engineering cycle.
This can upset the engineering staff so be sure to listen to their concerns so you don't put out a 737-MAX product. Fix those and try the test as you being the user.
The buyers and users don't care if variables are in camel case or not. They only care if the product does what it is supposed to do, is reliable, lasts a good time and maybe serviced later.
I'm going to offend many by writing this but I wish I'd used this method on more projects that were mired in a design, redesign loop.
@Xozz. I had hoped you would tell me where you got Code Blocks so I could see if they had a tutorial for first time users. But you didn't so try this one: https://www3.ntu.edu.sg/home/ehchua/programming/howto/CodeBlocks_HowTo.html
Which leads me to ask: Why use Code Blocks if it doesn't install and work right out of the blocks?
Could you use something else?
Can you share a link to where you get Code Blocks so I can check out if there is a tutorial for first timers?
That being said, I encourage developers to keep trying and improving.
As to the wheel, would you say Elon Musk's interpretation of a pickup truck is a hack?
Yes.
While it may not use stacks you can find over 55 implementations of Tic-Tac-Toe at https://rosettacode.org/wiki/Tic-tac-toe so I'm going to say you have a lot of examples all in one place to look over.
This reminds me of one metric of a Social Credit Score. Your metric is just one of many you can implement. I'm not saying you should but there are many social scoring metrics to explore. For example read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System then think about your business, company or country and what else you could apply a score to.
While I can't guess why you need this. Why not try it? Sendmail for me has worked alongside other mail systems for a very long time since sendmail as in the command line stands on its own.
I wonder if you are encountering some other issue such as this Google reveals?
From http://www.mclph.umn.edu/mathrefresh/logs3.html
Item 2. log 0 is undefined. It's not a real number, because you can never get zero by raising anything to the power of anything else. You can never reach zero, you can only approach it using an infinitely large and negative power.
Could it be trying to get the log of a number that is less than or equal to zero?
Example that works:
import math
import logging
n = 1
while n <= 10:
print(math.log(n))
n = n + 1
Your top post sounds like homework. You'll have to show your work and tell where you are stuck. My item 6 is my way of noting no one I know is going with C++ today on such a system.
Rare but can happen. Since there is little known about the laptop I can't make a guess. I will share this mostly seems to happen on older laptops where the boot drive is old technology HDD. Tell more about this machine. Also, uninstall MWB to see if it resumes performance. I also will guess it's on Windows 10 so you already have some protection in Windows Defender so there's not much reason to enable the real time protection of MWB.
@MickeyD and RJ.
Because I don't use the email login I completely forget about what is synced across the machines and that may be what some think is spying or leakage. Again, I don't use the email login but many do and it's going to sync (leak?) a lot of data.
Here's another one: Clipboard Sync. https://www.howtogeek.com/509323/disable-clipboard-sync-across-devices-in-windows-10/ notes a few ways to disable that.
I agree, the horse has left the barn and is nowhere to be found now. Or the chicken.
Since the app is done. Call it done and on your next app, start with the requirements.
OK so I'll share what I did about it.
Thanks Jim. If folk did want to move to something a bit private they'd have to pack up and leave the Internet as we know it.
Disclosure: I use Windows, TAILS (the OS), Android, and so many things that my leaks must be extra large.
All it takes is a little corruption and blammo. This is why you need someone else to test them out.
Also, that was then and now we are in now now. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRGCZh5A8T4
Time to talk to the chain's IT department about an UTM (Unified Threat Management) device. I may be dated on this but names like Fortinet, Cyberoam (now Sophos), DELL Sonicwall come to mind. I do not offer support for these so your IT should draw up the usual RFQ or implement as they see fit.
About Wikipedia, I wonder what it would look like without Steven Pruitt.
Maybe if there was no Steven, Funk & Wagnells, Encyclopedia Britannica or another would have had time to pivot and take this space. So thank you Steven.
Thank you Dani. I feel that I did the topic a disservice and should not have gone near privacy. There's more going on with the two companies going for essentially total world domination in their fields. Some may write that's OK as they have the superior product.
Moving on. I wanted to kick this out into the open and along the way comment there are other systems out there (Mastodon) and companies do push back when they can't have it all. I see that in the automotive and oil industries. They influence law makers to slow the change even if it's killing us.
@Babara. Please realize you went all Vogon on us here by placing your question under a 13 year old discussion. It's like the plans noted at https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/40705-but-the-plans-were-on-display-on-display-i-eventually
Please try again but with a top post all your own since here it's unlikely to be found.
The current system of say Facebook, Google (YouTube, Search Engine Optimization) and just about no one else has lead to what I see as a possilbe break from these masters or owners. It will take time and effort by all and so far, just peeps (noise) from governments.
I'm hoping Dani Horiwitz will weigh in here since this is not my field. My thoughts on this go back years as privacy was something we all had a lot more of a few decades ago. But here we are and it's a new world but one controlled by the few as in the two companies (rule of two) it seems.
Some want us to capitulate to our new masters. But it does seems to be a new federation of networks is out there. By that I mean Mastodon and similar but for now it seems from my limited view it's Mastodon. Right now there are YouTube, Instagram and Twitter alternatives so some work is underway.
It's not as if they are working to kill off the younglings. Or are they as Adam Conover interviews and more at https://www.earwolf.com/episode/the-internet-the-business-of-tech-and-happiness-with-scott-galloway/ The title there is "Big Tech, Workism and Killing Companies in the Crib with Scott Galloway, Factually! with Adam Conover #6 July 2, 2019."
After that I get the feeling that "Evil Will Always Triumph Because Good is Dumb". Well maybe that's a bit much but here we are with only two(?) companies running the big show.
So with that …
Based on your past posts let's hope this is not about stillbon software. For me a PDF does not have much to get to Excel so a simple copy and paste is all I do then the work to make it into the spreadsheet I wanted. What more is there here?
If I needed such I would turn to a source like https://www.chartjs.org/samples/latest/ so I would have my chart and move on to the next issue in my site. Remember I take it this is production work and not homework.
That would be amazing to find a conversion. I looked at line 1 and find an Amazon Web Services (AWS) interface so all that would have to be coded as well. As such I hope you have a lot of time to convert this.
Here's an idea, why not call this .py from your Java and get it done by any means possible?
@Xozz, just because the USB-drivers show up does not mean they are correct for this PC or the sticks are good or bad.
As to sure, the issue of drivers and Windows has been around for decades so I'm sure folk run into this all too often. Am I sure this is what's going on in your PC? No, I can't be sure but you can go over the drivers again and see if that's it. Figure 10 to 20 minutes tops for most folk that do this work. Others? Sadly a lot of folk can't deal with this area and I've seen them buy a new laptop to fix it.
@Xozz. In your other post the odds change as it appears you may have some bum ISO files. You can bet I've run into folk that had bad files and would blame all the apps for them not mounting or opening.
The times I encounter this issue there are many causes. Unranked:
@JC, if they were declared then I'd expect them to be used on lines 9 and 22 as well. As it stands, only the OP can tell us what's up.
Line 38 raises my question. Where is the variable READ defined? Or was that supposed to be a quoted string?
Thanks for the insight and most of all your time fixing all the little (and big) things.
OK I can see that. Why? Because when I Reddit I look at a subreddit and did take quick stop at reddit.com and seemed OK. Will have to check out its suggestions but it didn't suggest anything. Could be because I use reddit? (I can see you scrunch in pain as to that sounds just like something you wrote about more use or users would make the current cards at the front page work better.
But back to the top as they would say. The lack of being able to reply to someone in a discussion (threading) is missing as well as the replies to the top do not order according to voting or other rules.
I'm not writing these are must haves for the goals you have laid out in other discussions. I did not write that.
Thank you again. That is so much better.
Solved.
Thanks for this fix.
However. (You knew this would happen.)
Look at https://www.daniweb.com/programming/web-development/threads/451966/how-to-create-pdf-report-in-php#post2257830 and the popover is uncalled for since there is nothing to show. Picture:
This rather huge popover may be of interest when you are developing but here it's a distraction, questions why it is even trying and blocks you from reading what is there.
On top of that I have to use Control+Click on the link to get the link in a new tab which is fine until you see this popover won't die when the mouse is moved off the link. The popover sticks around like a zombie until I click on the screen.
Suggestion: Don't pop if "Thumbshot Not Available."
Sorry I see no similarity here. Here we have no subthreads (can't reply to a person the discussion) and replies move up or down the discussion chain according to Reddit's rules. You use the @ convention (example: @Someone) and hope they find your reply to them.
Here a reply stays put no matter if it was downvoted to Hell. If you want to have the conversational system that Reddit is, you have two missing features.
@Dani. Story time. Years ago one company asked me how to get their products on a web store. At their scale (millions a year) GoDaddy was a good fit. Another consultant came along and talked them into a full custom site. This was pre-shopify. Three years passed and a few hundred thousand and no store online.
That group was sacked.
Now with "sunk costs" into this custom, not online, not done system they hired yet another company and incredibly another two years passed with another kilobuck plus invested.
Another consultant was called in and they asked "Why don't you use GoDaddy?"
The second group was sacked. The final consultant was asked to help bring the company store online which happened in the next 7 days.
Today I might add Amazon as an outlet as well. You can imagine having watched this for 5 years was painful. Full disclosure: A relative worked there for over 2 decades. While this story does repeat for others out there, this one is mine.
https://superuser.com/questions/1008349/unable-to-connect-to-localhost-after-windows-10-upgrade notes two things I've done to resolve this.
The best part is that the awful answers and spam get downvoted and soon don't show.
Daniweb relies on moderators to do this. Reddit lets users kick replies out of site.
You'll have to share the scale of the work. Is this something on the scale of Amazon?
Why not use ready to run systems like GoDaddy offers? Then it's cheap, say 50 bucks.
I don't think there is an "one thing" that causes this. For example
https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=org.gradle.api.internal.artifacts.dsl.dependencies.DefaultDependencyHandler
shows us there are over a dozen causes. So you do have some work ahead of you now.
@Dani, I think the old obscure word doesn't seem to work now. I recall it worked a year ago but over the last few months discussions I could find with a "word" no longer show on the first page if at all.
Can you share your command line details as well as show tables?
Example: https://alvinalexander.com/blog/post/mysql/list-tables-in-mysql-database
That's a tall order since:
SymPy is a Python library for symbolic mathematics.
Your first order of business would be to convert SymPy or find something that can stand as it's replacement but for your language of choice.
Frankly if I were asked to do this I would call the .py file from Java and leave this in Python. Or accept that this must stay in Python unlesd one has enough time (months or more?) to do such a conversion.
Sorry but I can't know how your mind works. Most of folk that code write down the steps they took to solve the problem then those steps are turned into code. Since you are the one that will write the code from your steps, I can't do that for you.
But if you want to use some library for linear equations then you do more research into that and find a library you can use.
For this I'd turn to prior works, libraries and discussions as found by https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=Solving+linear+equations+in+Java
While you could code up a solution for your example it would not be extensible. Plus all it would do is follow your own problem solution steps.
To me it looks odd to have a space here and there. Specifically line 40 with that space after http:
Are you sure that space is needed there? Looks wrong. And https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.header.php seems to agree.
-> One other thing. I don't see http: often as everyone moved to secure web sites. (HTTPS)
Check out that space and then I think we need to discuss name and password security. Passing such over HTTP would be ripe for a data leak.
@Dani,
I don't type as much on my phone as talk to it. This year is the end for our Apple phones (reasons) but I hear their voice to text is really great. I know that on our lowly Android phones it's so good that I rarely type out a reply.
