I have posted this thread in the microsoft software forum as well but with no luck. If anyone can tell me how I can save a active excel file using a macro to save it in a folder using the current date as the file name. I hope that was clear. I know no VBA at all sorry...

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I still haven't found a solution to this problem apart from this one here
http://www.dailydoseofexcel.com/archives/2004/04/21/save-file-with-date

I guess if you know how to use vba this may be all you need so could someone explain to me how exactly I should use this in the vba editor in excel. I am pretty clueless as you can probably tell. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I would like to use a macro to save a spread sheet in a specific folder with the date as the file name. I have come to the conclusion that there is no way to do this in excel without using code because when the save window opens you are technically out of excel (i think). If anyone can help me this I will be very very greatful.

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I have looked at a couple of those and they have help, thanks. I am really getting into this css thing, it very easy (with the right help) to get exactly what you want. Thanks guys.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Thanks for the great responses. Say if for some reason my text is wrapping in a div or table, how could I stop it.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I am pretty new on CSS and wanted to know when it is the right time to use a # before the name eg. #footer . Also while I am here please could someone tell me how to make text rap in a div tag.

Thanks for your help.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Thanks very much for that I shall have a look at that, cheers

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

it should be fine on that system, ...your CPU, vid and Mobo are all better than mine, and mine runs Vista as well as Vista can run. With all the eye candy the gig of RAM seems a good choice (mine's 2X512 as well). I'm using on-board vid and the "Windows DVD Maker" wouldn't go, whining about vid. All the worse cuz Nero7 burnware won't install on mine and several others that tried, ...give'r a shot, but I'd recommend partitioning that 400 gigs at least in three, keep XP on "C" and install Vista on another partition so you can dual-boot, ...my early assessment is I wouldn't trust the new OS yet for anything real important, ...still what the hell, it's 'beta' and we're supposed to be evaluating it, thus my whining about it at this stage would be for nought ..."the Old Geek"

Thanks very much and i think you're right partitioning is the way to go atleast for the first year after its release.

Cheers

if you sign up for a personalized home on google a few small module items will display on the page. You can then move these around by drag and drop. I wondered if anyone knows how to do this? I would be very greatful for any responses.

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I can now show you my page and that may illustrate the problem slightly better. It is still in development though and the hyperlinks link back to their old site. here it is www.theunion-music.com/union_red . I would really like to stick with my css as it is working fine. I also need a answer for higher res monitors. Also due to Dogtrees advice i think i will change it so it works at 800*600. But if anyone knows a way of changing the size of my background image so that it fills the browser size I would be extremely greatful!!!!

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

At the very least, you should support a screen resolution down to 800x600.

I have done plenty of research on this factor and many huge websites (including this one) do not work on 800*600 screens. This includes sites also like Yahoo.

I do not wish to make it work on that size screen but I do at different aspect ratios and at larger size screens.

Thanks for your responses but I would really appreciate a clear answer on how to do it. By the way I am on a unix server so no asp!

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Yeah, I did notice that it was flash. I would still really appreciate any ideas. Because I am pretty sure my site will look really bad on anything apart from a 1024*768 or 1280*1024. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks for all your responses so far.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I got the idea from the red hot chili peppers website www.redhotchilipeppers.com. I think they do it with javascript. To be honest I am not very familiar with javascript and unless it is cut and paste well you know what i mean. If anyone has any idea that they don't mind explaining to someone who can only understand the very basic of javascript, please respond.

Thanks for your quick response.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I have just started designing a new site and have decided to use a background that stays still. I have done this by using a fixed attachment in my css. I have used a png file and have found a filter fix from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/pnghowto.htm which is quite straight forward.

My main problem is what happens when people start changing their screen size. To do this I thought about setting the image as a percentage ie. 100% width and height. But I can't find how to do this in css. If anyone can give me any help I would be very greatful. My current style sheet is below if you are interested.

/* CSS Document */
body {
 background-color: #000000;
 background-image:url('interf/backgrounds/main.png');
 background-repeat: no-repeat;
 background-attachment: fixed
}

Thank you for your help.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Infact, it seems to be possible. You can download a free trial of a program called blackmagic which is supposed to do it, i have not yet tried it though. http://www.black-and-white-to-color.com/mainsite/html/instructions.html

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Please could somebody help me out with this. I have been asked to do this a few times before and decided to try and find out this time. I can't really see how you could do this but If it is possible please could someone tell me how to convert a grayscale image into a full colour image. Showing all pixels as a close match of what the colours would have looked like in real life. This is for a relatives sixtieth birthday and we would like to put a colour of her as a child on the cake and obviously one doesn't exist please could someone tell me if there is or isn't a way of doing it.

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Ermm, what is codename Blackcomb?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Ok, fine it is spam, but it isn't the annoying spam for pills and illegal software it is 1 email to each person not 5 a day. I have a question, If someone sent you a email about a new forum like daniweb but with a more focused aim on graphics for instance, I am sure you would be glad to be one of the first to know and be able to use the resource. I believe the people I am sending this email to will feel the same way and they won't just delete it.

Back to my original question, what day of the week is it best to send it out?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I still need help!!!

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

You may aswell delete/close this thread.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I would advise you get it now, because it could take another 6 months to come out officially. It doesn't crash very at all and is a vast improvement and it loads alot faster than firefox.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I already have Nero 7, so how do i do it. I haven't seen a way.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I use Corel Paint Shop Pro now and also Photoshop CS2, but sometimes Fireworks can come in handy but not very often. I don't think I've ever considered Microsoft Paint, I hear it is very good lol.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

That sounds fair enough. But stopping people from copying things is gonna be hard.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Wow you are so funny(sense the sarcasm). It isn't spam it is to peopole who will be interested in the subject of the website. And that isn't everybody. But any help with how many people you think I should email would be greatfully received.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

If you have dreamweaver (and still haven't found an answer). Give the image you wish to change a instance name (such as dress). Then click on the coloured box and select windows>behaviour panel. In this click on the plus sign and click swap image. This will bring up a long list of images, choose the one that says "dress" (the instance name of the image you want to change). Then browse for the image you want to display there instead. Also make sure you have swap image restore selected in this dialog box.

Once you have done that when you rollover that colour the dress will change image.

Good Luck

This is my code to onmouseover swap current image and and different image and then restore both images.

But when I you move the mouse out the "different" image doesn't swap restore. Please could somebody tell me why this is. I used dreamweaver to do this and it has never done this wrong before.

Thanks for your help.

This is slightly off/ slightly on topic: When do Forums get the most hits is it in the week or on weekends? I have never really looked at my own as it is very small and I am lucky to get one person on at a time.

But, I am doing a huge redesign (i have learnt alot since my first try) and I hope to double the members. I am going to try and email as many people as possible, kind of spam, but it is to people who will be interested in it. First of all how many emails do you guys think I need to send to add 100 more members, and when should I send them? (i told you it was slightly on topic.)

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Yes. rus is right. The only way to do what you are asking for is using frames. However, frames are not widely used or accepted anymore as good website design.

Really you think this yet you can type your own name? Who's a clever boy. lol. The most effective way is defenately using javascript. I wouldn't use frames it will not achieve what you want exactly and will give you strange scroll bars.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

My advice would be just DON'T use it. There is no way the outcome will be anywhere near a professional standard. Just buy some software like photoshop and you will not regret it!

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

(btw - I have 2 gigs) as file storage

I guess you know that is it actually more than that now and of course everyone has it so don't try to show off.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I need some help with what I think is probably javascript. I would the user of my website to click a link on a page and for some information to display on the page without a reload of the page. This is what I would like to happen in my specific case:

The user clicks the name of the cd and the full track list and a small image displays above it, without going to a new page.:?:

If anyone can help I will be unbelievably greatful.

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

On my many searchs I did come accross that one but it isn't really what I am looking for. I just want it to be a very slight indicator like the itunes search not quite that "in your face". But thanks anyway.

Any other ideas...

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I am redesigning some forms on my website at the moment and I really like the way the Itunes search box highlights itself in blue when it is in use and I wondered whether anyone knows how to do that on a form. I have found only one article about it but, to be honest I didn't understand a word of it.

I would be very greatful for any help.

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I know it's quite a few months too late but- I am guessing you are using Bittorrent and so all you need to do is right click on the green bar and click open directory, then play, install or use the file however is necessary. It is not neccessary however to seed the file before you open it. So I guess this is just a bad file.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yeah I have heard of that one, microsoft use it on their ASP.net forum but It doesn't look to good. Anyway I have been looking for quite a few solid hours and I have come to the decision that Web Wiz Forums 8 is probably still the best way to go. But if anyone feels like making a forum please make it in ASP because they are so few and far between. There are still no ASP forums to match Vbulletin or IPB which is a real shame. Thanks for your help.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I am sure most forums suffer from the same thing. But especially on this forum you see alot of people with 1 or 2 posts(they are obviously asking a specific question and not really participating) then there are people that have thousands of posts. These people are the ones that gain the most from the forum. On my forum there are people who go through the boring process of signing up and then never post? Then there are people who just keep coming back. I think people need to be rewarded for their number of useful posts(not just questions).

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Yeah, I have been told about that 123flash thing before by a forum member of mine and my answer was (after I recovered from the shock of the price) I think I will see how it goes this year and whether I make enough money from adverts, in other words NO

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I notice that these are all PHP based forums, when will there be a good competitor for forums like Vbulletin and IPB. As far as I can see there really is only Webwiz forum that comes close in ASP. Does anyone else know of any other better ones.?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

The answer to anyone who says - how many members should I have in 3 months? is not a number it is the fact that it depends on how many people are interested in your subject. For example this forum has over 70,000 members in a few years but if it was about a more specific subject for example PDAs then there would only be a fraction of the amount of members. So in conclusion you should just make sure that your forum has steady growth.

I really want to be able to play my movies on my DVD player and I have found no answers how to do it. I would like to be able to convert and then burn to a dvd that will play the movie on a standard dvd player- oh yeah and I don want to pay for the privilige. Please can someone help me.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Yeah I would definetly go for a phone with T9 which most phones have now.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I heard about this on a Podcast and I think I agree with them because it has no use. The idea of it was-

Small enough to fitin your pocket
but easy to use
Full day of battery life

As far as I know it has met none of these. It is like a big PDA or a very small pc.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I can guess why you didnt install the software. You can probably download the correct software off of the Logic website.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I think it may be to do with the fact that it is a secure site. I had this problem a couple of weeks ago and it stayed for a couple of weeks and then I tried to log on one day and it just worked. I think your best bet is just to try all the obvious things like restart your PC and router, try a different browser, and make sure you internet settings are correct in you browser. If all else fails just leave it and use another computer for this type of stuff and try again in a couple of weeks.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I have both IE and Firefox on my PC and I normally end up switching between the two to get a website to display lol. I am using IE7 and for some sites it just gives up bt then again the amount of times of seen an error message for connecting to a server in firefox could not be counted on a all of my fingers and toes (which I have all of). I personally think that IE is easier to use and is faster at loading pages, but people are right when they sa it crashes more than Firefox. I think I will stick with both and let Vista make the decision.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

The new internet explorer came to BETA testing quite a while ago now and I personally think it is quite a vast improvement. I think it is becoming more like Firefox with the tabs and RSS feeds. I have also noticed that the startup time is quite a bit faster. Unfortunately some of the icons look terrible and in the Beta stages it is still crashing quite a bit, but I have noticed one thing it never crashes the whole pc it just comes up with a error report, which is a improvement.

There are still those moments though that you just have to switch to firefox and I hope they will go soon.

I am interested to hear what you think.

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

If you are planning to use the computer for sound production then my best advice would be to stick with a mac. I am very interested though why you could want to move to windows. Also if in the end you make the decision to go to windows, don't by a DELL look around and you will find better deals.

This is a very unusual situation people normally switch from windows to mac not the other way round.

Spec-

Pentium 4 3.4ghz ht tec
