No problem.
I want to hear the results from you soon so please post here if it pass or fail so we can proceed to another procedure...

You can't... If your wifi card is already broken, those annoying popups will not disappear just like that. You have to disable your wifi driver, not uninstall it. Only then those popups will not bother you again soon.

As for reinstallation for win7 question... I'm afraid you have to reinstall everything back. Even if you choose to install Win7 without formatting the partition, programs installed will be unaccessible due to change in registry but your documents will not be override or mising during the reinstall...

I'm not sure if you try to copy registry before install and reapply it back on new win7 install would actually work but it might do able to run your programs as normal except for the missing shortcuts...

Maybe your wifi card already fried a.k.a already not working. Those symptoms you described also point to dead wifi card.

This usually happen to laptop a lot so might consider buying an external wifi dongle for your laptop.

Clearly you're not using windows vista or later... or you didn't check 'My Computer' properties on win7...

Those ratings are from microsoft, they rated it for you about your hardware performance and stuff and it does useful to some people who wants great performance...

Whats a dongle?
I feel like Im missing something here....

Ever heard of pendrive etc.??
It has the same shape but have different function altogether.

For example a bluetooth dongle. Some computer don't have bluetooth so they buy an external bluetooth device and attach it to the computer so that the computer can receive bluetooth signal and do transfer files

Internet dongle is the same thing but it's function is the same as wifi card place on your laptop, only working on external. The same as bluetooth above

Got it?

I mean from my last post did you try to test all the missing solution you posted earlier aside from RAM and all?

So you were saying that shutter sound comes from the system itself, not the hardware sound that normally heard from outside ie. buzzing sound and stuff...

There may be some hardware incompability stuff going on around here but not sure what and where...

- Annoying shutter sound -- more like a sound hardware problem
- Huge lag spikes -- have something to do with networking and program conflict
- Hang glitches -- not sure

Try this... to confirm it was windows problem over hardware
If you can, might try download Ubuntu .iso files from it's webpage. It's about 600MB in size so you can either skip this or take your time.

After download, double-click on the files to invoke 'Burn cd' process. Insert a blank cd and burn it to make a bootable live cd. After done, reboot and insert the cd to cd/dvd drive and boot from it. You may need to press correspondence key to oot from it.

Select default and it should boot an independent OS. Test it out whether the shutter sound still there... Live cd has low performance so bear it it.

or try this first

this is much simple to test...
unplugged all hardware cable/card from the motherboard, leaving behind a power supply cable, 1x4G …

Hi and welcome to Daniweb...

You were missing some solutions that may be involved with that shutter problem of yours...

Did you try any of this by any means:-
- Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
- Graphic Card Compability
- Motherboard (Heatsink and all)

Although you have succesfully made a custom made computer doesn't mean that all hardware is compatible especially to your motherboard.

This may sound like a stupid question but mind asking... where did the shutter sound coming from anyway??

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

This wasn't old enough and it doesn't need to be ended up as solved anyway. It's merely a discussion for best fast browser.

@Jingda
sorry jingda but i have to agree chrome is the fastest one... for quick load and browse but i didn't say it was the best one yet.

I've tested the most used browser in various PC's with different OS's and all what I could say for Chrome is, fast but dangerous. It clearly just load everything including annoying ads just like IE does... So avoid using chrome if you're doing some confidental stuff...

As suggested by blackcathacker

XP should be good with your desktop and remove win98

Any OS should be fine on your laptop but windows 7 is the most recommended one. I see you have dual-boot your laptop with Ubuntu as well. Happy to see one...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Be wary of some posters by looking at their post count. Some poster likes to spam or redirect you to some unknown link which could be dangerous.

Ubuntu live cd will not conflict with windows whatsoever. It's a standalone operatiting system that run on your RAM instead of HDD where your windows partition reside but slower in speed. Ubuntu can rename files without any problem that Windows OS can't unless that particular files is actually unusable or corrupted.

Hiren boot run the same way as Ubuntu does but still using windows as live cd operating system which most people already familiar with it.

Hope this explanation helps you...

Certainly the tablet need at least a USB port to plug in internet dongle for it to work.

Some tablet doesn't need an internet dongle to connect to 3G connection as it was already built-in inside. Might as well check whether your tablet support it...

Also you can try MpcStar. It's the same as VLC but much more reliable...

More like a windows problem to me.

When you boot your computer, can you access to BIOS and does it still on when BIOS menu are active?

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Personally, XP is much better than 7.
It's not that user friendly but most people gotten used to it already and simply easier to use compare to windows 7...

I'm quite stumped when people never mentioned to install Vista when they have either XP or 7 on their system...

Windows 98/ME is very old and I'm sure you already know and I also have used win98 so I can't also forget it. Easier to tweak, simple environment and most recent software still support 98. But XP has already steal it's glory so it's best to put it to bed...

So far, it's Firefox for me too...

Here are some of my opinion on different browsers...
IE - only some government site and oldies still prefer this because most computer have IE pre-installed.
Firefox - great stability and less hogging on system resources. have many add-ons that can be installed.
Opera - best for portable usage and mostly used in tablet, android and symbian.
Google Chrome - Fastest browser launch one so far but eat up system resource a lot (multiple tabs) and bit unsecure.

others haven't tested yet so tell me if you want some browser to be tested...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Well you could check the cable with other USB hardware like pendrive for example and see if could pass that error.

In my opinion, i think 6 meters is just too long. I've people use 5m USB cable and still work but come up slow but 6m will just make it more impossible to send/receive data effectively. Ignore this if I was just babbling...

Always and ALWAYS! read the fine print first. You could save your money just by reading it first...

Also be aware of where it's manufacture. For example, the original is from Australia but it was manufacture in Thailand so you could guess it wasn't true original unless the original manufacturer says so...

Alas, I might be wrong about the processor...

That's exactly what I'm trying to do.. I'm trying to rename it to a short name.. It doesn't accept to be renamed no matter what the new name is.

Maybe that file is corrupted so I suggest you check it with chkdsk. Enter the following command in CMD prompt

chkdsk Z: /f /x /r
*replace Z with the drive letter where the file is located.

What is a live CD? Where can I find such one?
Thanks in advance.

A live CD is a bootable CD which instead of boot into your regular windows, it run on your RAM and CD so it won't access to your HDD in case your HDD have problem. I believe you're not a Linux user so I have to rule out 'Ubuntu live cd' but this one is the best one for your problem.

You can download Ubuntu Live CD from Ubuntu official homepage. Download it's .iso file and once downloaded, burn to a blank cd.

or You could try Hiren Boot CD. It's the same as Ubuntu Live CD but instead of Linux, it use MiniXP which is easier to use since you are a windows user. Download from HERE
same process as above.

Then reboot your computer, insert your live cd and boot from it. You may need to press correspondence key to make it boot from cd (F11, F10, ESC, F9 etc.)

A $120 tablet?
From China?

Screams cheap and breakable in two days.

But people do buy it anyway... usually just to show off that he or she has one...

Not to offending anyone but I think products made from China were usually low quality on another countries aside from it's country itself. If you want to compare PS2 made in Japan and PS2 made in China, PS2 from Japan last longer and be able to play games hassle-free unless it's a disk problem.

Advice, just buy one that is well known like Sony, Samsung, Apple etc but be wary also where to they manufacture it...

Netbook suppose to be portable and easy to use
Notebook other hand good in overall apart from heavier than netbook

If you think you prefer good low battery consumption and not for heavy usage, netbook is clearly for you.

If you think you want to play Full HD movies, play high-graphic games, editing picture/videos, netbook isn't worth it and should getting a notebook for it.

Some people loves small and portable and some people want good performance so you guys can't argue about which is the best. Different people have different taste...

I don't think extracting to 8bit would cause something like that, it'll just get pixelated effect all over, not partial like in the screenshot.

However, did you try it on another computer or using another VBDL.exe files? I'm starting to doubt that VBDL is corrupted.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

There's suppose to be one. A IDE/SATA converter in a form of card which you have to place it on IDE port and it'll convert to SATA which you can use SATA HDD for it...

So far I think this converter in unreliable because it doesn't work on my end and I've tested on several computers with same result but you can test it if you want. You can get it from your computer local store. They should have one for about 20$ for it.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Those JPG files has been compressed in max (ultra compression) probably which is why this kind of problem occurs. I never heard of OCR personally but normally image file compression software would have problem extracting back those image to original state but still look normal in the software image viewer...

Maybe you should try to use it to compress image files and extract it and see if it come up with the same problem...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Yes it'll run but check first for HDD port. Most P3 supported motherboard use IDE instead of SATA so you have to make sure your motherboard has SATA port or the HDD can't be used on your computer.

You should always make a restore point or at least some backup before you start to modified how Windows operate because something like this MAY happen. That way, when modification failed, you can take your step back and restore before the modification failed...

hi and welcome to DaniWeb...
your description is not very clear and you didn't state any information about your computer apart from your problem...

When's the last time you use your computer and it worked?

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

I would not recommend you to upgrade yours to Ultimate because most netbooks processor works very slow with it so it's better to stick with what you have for now...

Back to topic.
Recovery partition is important because in case your Windows is failing (beyond repair), you can always recover it to out-of-the-box state from that partition so deleting it is not pretty much not recommended.

You can use either use Disk Management from within Windows itself or use Gparted. Gparted is linux-based program and it can be use as live cd. If you think system drive (C:) is not worth for 200+GB, just shrink it to preferable partition size.

After that, you'll have some unallocated disk space that can be used to create another partition. (be wary that usually a hard drive can support up to 4 primary partition only) After done through the process, you'll encounter chkdsk when you start your windows, let it run to correct the MFT files and it should be fine afterwards...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

If you're a Windows XP user, just boot in from safe mode and log in from Administrator (which will be available with your original account) and create another admin account without password so you can work on your computer without going to safe mode. However, this won't work on Vista or later...

For password recovery, you can google search them and there should be one software that can recover it for you or search it HERE or HERE. Mostly trial software would work so download them, install it, attempt recovery, once done, delete the software.

I think the most simple solution is just to rename the files. Use a shorter name like 'Jamal' or 'Video' and then you can modify, copy it just the way you want...

This problem always occur on website saved folder and because of long trait name and unknown character in the name so just simply rename it if can.

or you can use live cd to rename/copy it for you but I'm not ruling out that it could be the work of virus...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Supposely my netbook supposed to be portable but since it's battery were already dead, I modified it for home usage. I play games a lot with it but due to constriction put upon Atom processor, only some supported games can run well on it.

But I agree... Netbooks can be really useful in basic stuff at home like playing videos and music, All-in-One apps that can even surf web etc. so don't even underestimate the portability of netbook till tablet PC came around...
