I've always had success with Xilisoft Video Converter! It's the best program for audio/video conversion. However it is not free but I think you can try it before you buy. If you want freeware apps...look for Super Video Converter http://download.cnet.com/Super-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10277613.html Or Any Video Converter http://download.cnet.com/Any-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10661456.html Another decent trial application is …

Actually can you make sure your cd drive is actually also a dvd drive? Look near the place where you click to eject the drive. If it says "DVD ROM" or "DVD R" or "DVD RW" than you should be to watch dvds.

try disabling from hard drive in bios temporarily. And then boot from the install disc. This way when you boot from windows installation cd, it will start a …

Nero is definitely compatible with windows vista, unless you are using like nero 6 or something. As long as you are using latest version of nero there shouldn't be any compatibility issues. Worst case, try running it in compatibility mode. Right click>properties>compatibility with windows xp sp2. Enjoy!

If you have windows installation disc, try to do a system restore to some earlier point in time. You could also try to set the bios to default. Also try resetting your cmos. See what happens. And keep trying to boot into safe mode.
