Linksys should work with just about any computer. Make sure that the Linksys router is working with your modem, and it should work fine with your iMac. You should have a straight-through Ethernet cable, although newer modems are configured to accept cross-over cables, too.

So can the Unix machines still connect to your FTP? If so, you may have a firewall problem. I would check that. You could also try using the ftp client to connect to an anonymous FTP server, and see if that works. What about router problems? I'm not completely sure, …

Any distribution of Linux will work as a server. It all depends on what kind of computer you have, and how much time you're planning to put into it. For a quick and easy setup, I recommend SuSE. Only recommended if you have a fairly speedy computer. For a pure …

Although I agree with many of the rules, some of it is overkill. For example:
*Use WAP.
WEP is highly insecure, so WAP is a good alternative. As long as your devices support it. Many older computers and laptops still only support WEP, so you may be forced to turn …

As easy as SuSE and Ubuntu are to use, they won't teach you very much about Linux. I don't recommend them unless you don't want to learn anything about Linux. Using Slackware or Gentoo for one week can teach you far more than months of SuSE. System administration, compiling software, …

It should be stressed over and over again, that a distibution does not make Linux different. In other words, although Dreamlinux may look a lot like Mac OS X, that doesn't mean you couldn't achieve that look with something else, say Linux From Scratch. A distribution merely grabs a bunch …

First, connect your computer to the switch. Next, make sure Java/Javascript are enabled in your web browser. Lastly, enter the switch's IP address. This is typically 192.168.0.1, but check with your manual to be sure. If everything goes well, you'll see the HP interface in your browser.

Hmm... not exactly sure because I program in a structured language (C++). I definitely agree that you shouldn't use a GOTO command. I think you should use a switch or while statement, and then break when you're done. This would allow you to keep "structured" programming, while avoiding the GOTO …
