you can format it with boot disk from www.bootdisk.com, but you will need a Windows OS disk disk to reload windows !
or you could switch to a Linux OS ,its free download from the net .

ok you answered part of my comment ,by old drivers you mean bios i assume ,bios if not a driver ! you should have been prompted to backup your old bios when doing the flash1

Recently reformatted my computer, and installed the updated bios from HP, and now my computer won't support dual monitors. I've been all over the net looking for a solution and all I can confirm is that everyone else who's updated their bios is now having the same problem.

I've been told that contacting HP does nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

re-install the old bios version ,or did you try reinstall/updating the video drivers

old laptops not worth spending money on ,you can buy new for as low as 399.00 here in Canada ,
I have old p3 450 IBM ,its new condition, never used laptop , with dead battery ,new batt on ebay is about 75.00 + 30.00 shipping ,not gonna happen for me ,i only paid a few dollars for the laptop,its just not worth the 100.00 to me to buy a battery ,the laptop works fine plugged in ,and i rarely use it any way ,anyone wanna buy it

check cards fan is it working if it doesn't have one check heatsinc for dust build up and heat .take side of case and touch card to see if its really hot when it goes funny

monitors have a refresh and resolution limit ,you may be able to find what your monitors is,with a google search of the make and model number ,

is there a way to check if there was an overheat?

yes,feel all around the laptop case with hand ,hot spots are caused by overheating !also if it were overheating it should shut down or at least not work very well ,i also suggest a can of compressed air to blow out heatsinc/fan and other ventilated areas of laptop.

xp doesn't usually have drivers for sound as default ,you need to install drivers for your device .
go to device manager and check if there are any yellow or red ! in the list for sound

Yes Caperjack, I deserved that, and never figured I would answer the only fix to myself. remember that a new mommy board that takes ddr2 will most likely also need a new CPU, and depending on what you have now for a mommy board you may need a new power supply also ,for the p4 plug if you old psu doesn't have one !just a thought

hi,welcome, what version of windows are you using ,
try uninstall it and rebooting computer to reinstall the drivers .

try scan with hijackthis and post the log

uninstall the drive from device manger and reboot and let it reinstall the drive ,if still the same maybe you could check the cables on the driver or borrow another drive to see if it act the same way

windows xp should have the drivers for the drive ,and install them when you put it in the tower ,must be something wrong with the drive!

office versions prior to 2002(xp) did not store the key as there was no need to (no product activation), they merely checked if it *seemed* to be a valid key at install time

In device manager PCI Device has a yellow question mark, and states the drivers for this device are not installed.

run you virus scanner in safe mode ,try safe mode with networking and see if you can download malwarebytes and install and run it .
What i do with costumers computers to fix!I remove and install infected drives into my own computer as a slave drive to remove the nasty you have !

You don't need to remove the heyboard to check pop off the balck cap on the "N" key ,i still think the little button under the black key cap is stuck on, or broken ,because its only the one key giving you problems cant be much else, in my opinion !change the keyboard

it is most likely the battery ,you get the message because the info you added when you hit f1 or f10 is not being saved to the bios !get a battery and try it they are only a few dollars .fixes that error for me when i see it on computers i fix
