got the blurry problem fixed, its still only partial info because the software need to scroll down to show all processes using the cpu .and task manager should show whats causing the usage

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

as you say the lack of proper video driver is the problem with the wavy scrolling ,the updated drivers you downloaded does it come with a exe file to install the driver or was it a .zip file that maybe needs to be unzipped ,if its a zip file unzip it ,then look in that folder where it unzipped for a exe to install , ,if now exe to install ,go start ,right clcik on my computer go to properties /hardware /device manager , right clcik on display adaper and go to update driver and direct it to the folder where the new drivers are and it will install them .

confused me to!

for the pcmcia wireless device also in device manager in networkiadapter if it threr uninstall ,remove the card from computer reboot and reinstall drivers from the disk that came with it and then install the pcmcia wirreless device and let it install itself /
good luck

Hi!

Please have a look at the attached picture... Left: you got the process list sorted by CPU usage. Right, task manager showing 50 + % CPu Usage... wtf?

Thanks for your help!

picture blurry and the one on the left is not full you need to scroll to show is see all so it means nothing to me in the views i see ,in the task manager click on processes and make the box big and see what it shows

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

After messing up my Win 2000 desktop I took it to the local repair shop where the incompetent owner restored it to life, but managed to lose about 50 GB of hard disk space. Yes lose it. I've searched meticulously for a file that big, without success. What can have happened to such a big chunk of HD Space. I've tried to start defragging but get told that the C: Drive doesn't need defragging! Total C: Drive is 180 GB. I still have 85 GB remaining free, and can account for another 35 GB of existing Programmes and Files- a total of 120 GB.
Any Suggestions ?

most likely caused by the way he formatted the drive go the computer management ad disk management anf it should show as unallocated or something like that ,you should be able to right click on it to set it up and format it get it back as a second partition and use it for storage .
go to start/ run and type or copy this into run compmgmt.msc then go to disk management in the left pane

Hello everybody,
I have a laptop Compaq Armada M700 with a DVD/CD drive. I don't know what I did wrong but my DVD drive does not read any CDs anymore. I tried Audio CDs, CD-R, CD-RW but they are not recognized. It does read any DVD, though.
Can somebody help me?
Regards,
Ricardo Junior

when you put a audio cd in ,and go to myComputer and click on the icon for the dvd drive does anything happen

The thing is, I've never been ejecting before, because my computer would always say that it was being used and couldn't be ejected. I recently got rid of my old firewall and antivirus programs and got new ones. Maybe it will eject now. I don't know why that would cause the problem though.

when mine won't disconnect i just log out of user and then log back in ,usually disconnects then

Okay, Well I'm a totat idiot when it comes to hardware, can't tell good from bad, so I'll start out with my system info and that stuff..

I'm running WinXP..

Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1.80 Ghz
510MB RAM
Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller with approx. 64MB memory
DAC Type: Internal
I'll include more info if needed

I'm looking to buy a new video card, pref. better than my current one, and it must support Hardware Transform and Lighting.

I'm not sure if it's integrated or not, but I think it is, but I got no idea what this would mean..

Someone mind helping me out, recomending a better one/telling me how to install it/etc. =/.

none of the info in you post is enough to tell you what to get ,we need the model and make of your motherboard ,to give you assistance .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

sound like the video card is overheating and causing you problems maybe ,make use the fan on the video card is working ,assuming you have a video card and not onboard video ,also make sure all hardware is clear of dust buildup

When I opened my computer to-day my favorites was missing Marian Howe

when you open Internet Explorer are the favorites there !
In MY Computer ,right click on the top tool bar and chose customize, in the left click on favorites ,hit the add button to add it to the right pane ,Favorites will now now up on the tool bar.
now if its the favorites in the very top of the tool bar ,where it says file/edit /view favorites now that's a different problem

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Probably hundreds, but very expensive none the less.

hundreds turn into thousands very quickly ,i seen ad's for 500.oo for a 10gig and 1300.oo, to do a 40 gig hdd ,and up and up after the 40,then bigger the drive the more money

Just want to point out that this is a very old post, this guy is done and has probably replaced the computer by now.

you are right it is ,but my post was for poster #2

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Just try this: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

I have seen this problem many times. This software works great.

same software offered in post #2

instruction on its use .
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

ok, download this program and run it and go to motherboard tab on the top and give us the boards model number ,maybe we can then do a search for you and see if says what cpu it will take .

power supply's have been know to go bad really quick ,even really good ones .I have had it happen to me numerous time with cheap one ,maybe you got a bad one !!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

yer i knew that a person would say that eventually, but that wasn't really the answer i was
looking for , im just asking if there is anyway that i could fix it besides buying him
a new system...

and if anyone is going to say that i have or need to buy im a new system then please
don't bother telling me that.

KK

well i may have said that but i will asked you a couple of questions ,you first post is not clear as to if you are trying to used your p4 3.mhz cpu now or you put his 1.7 back in ,witch is it ?????????????????
you may have shorted something on the motherboard when you put the cpu in .you may have broken something else when you took the laptop apart ,make sure the keyboard is pluggged in correctly ,you did remove all power to the board before you did this correct ,you un plugged and removed the battery right !.what is the model number of the laptop should be on the back of it .i cant find any info on the laptop with out it .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

This is kinda embarressing asking other people for help but i haven't got much time,
my friend has a medion md95400 laptop and it has a 1.7ghz cpu (centrino) and we thought that my 3.2ghz cpu (pentium 4) would be great, then it didn't work out as we thought it
would.

I think i might have short circuited it and im no really sure what's is the problem when the
screen going blank every time i turn it on, the lights are flashing so its not the screen im sure of that...but somebody please explain what the REAL problem is and tell how to
fix it.

P.S. without buying him another computer of course

KK

you don't say if you put his cpu back in but im assuming you did and it still doesn't work, correct!

i will assume that the p4 wasn't compatible with his laptop ,you may need to buy him a new one .lesson learned ,always make sure of compatibly

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

How many memory chips does it have? if it has more than 1 chip. try removing 1 and see if turns on. if not try it with the other one. that way you can check to see if one of the chips died.

they did that, as posted .

sounds like its overheating ,can of compressed air blow out the fan and heatsinc on the back or side of laptop

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

sounds like its overheating ,solution ,get can of compressed air, blow out fan and heat sinc fins ,if that doesn't fix it ,take it to someone who fixes laptops !

DDR, PC3200, will show as 200 in cpu-z, ddr stands for double data rate ,pc3200 ram is rate 4oo,
200x2= 400
you can use the ram shown on the wepsite you linked ,
and no you cant use SDRAM ., you need to use DDR-SDRAM

Im, almost 100% sure my comments are correct .if not, ram is almost always backward compatible and will work anyway .
no you should not mix unbuffered with buffered

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

both, in system properties and in system information.

so ,as suggested by other poster did you try removing the ram sticks and re-seating them
