I deleted some folders from desktop and can not find.

I do not remember this happening but a few days ago I put 2 folders on my desk top and must have deleted them and then sent to recycle bin and deleted from there I am very good at not doing that and again do not remember doing that.

Giving that ,is it possible you dreamed you actuall had the folders on the desktop !lol
just kidding ,but if you don't remember deleting how can you say you then emptied the recycle bin! if 2 programs don't find them in recycle bin but fine file reference to the last 5 years its possible you didn't actually delete these folders to the bin ! so where are they ,not sure ,do you have more that one user ,like 2 and the files were saved on the other users desktop !nut i know
check this path to have a look, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

Thinking you are refering to the computer case as the cpu ,its impossible to find out whats in the box ,unless you open the box or install some software to give you the info ,Houdini Died in the 30's i think .
anyway here is sys info tool that you could use and it doesn't require a install just runs from the desktop.

I'm a novice when comes to computer networking. I would like to know if there is any way I am able to change the tcp/ip setting as user. It has been disabled by the administrator. Thank you.

are you on a network at home or at a work network,if not them maybe malware/trojan has disabled it

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I don't think I have the model # sticker on it either, someone gave it to me but it's old so I didn't use it. I'll double check on that though.
So my old computer(it ran sp2 with no problems) won't install sp2/3 on the hard drive so that I can transfer the hard drive to my new computer? It has no extra mem, only the one hard drive in it and everything is integrated(vid/sound).
That is what I did I just clicked yes on them but wasn't sure if that would affect it haha. Thanks for clearing that up though.

you are losing me,what do you actually mean by this [So my old computer(it ran sp2 with no problems) won't install sp2/3 on the hard drive so that I can transfer the hard drive to my new computer? ] ,

.what im saying is if you install winxp on a hardrive in one computer it will not bootup if you put it in a different computer because of the different hardware in the 2nd computers .

I just wanted to know that when we upgrade windows to the latest version of windows,
example WinXP to WinVista, then is the program folder and documents and settings folder
also effected or only the windows folder is changed?

I hope my question is clear

Regards,

documents and other stuff will be ok as long as the upgrade goes ok,, if you do a upgrade ,and not a format and fresh full install

I don't have another vid card sitting around, the only one I do have I don't have the serial number for. would I be able to take my old computer and connect my hard drive to that, install sp2/3 and then just connect it to my new setup and then install my drivers for my motherboard/vid card?
Also when I had sp1 on there and installed my vid card an error came up saying that it isn't certified or had a logo or something. would that affect this at all?

thank you.

video card =shouldn't need the s/n ,just the model #

you old computer most like will not boot to the drive to do what you say .
don't worry about certified or logo go say yes !!!

When someone manually configures a computer to use the same IP address each time it powers up, this is known as a Static IP address. In contrast, in situations when the computer's IP address is assigned automatically, it is known as a Dynamic IP address.

Yes it is still in the testing stage, it is made available to people that are willing to try it and allow then to find any bugs in the program. Without people trying programs like this, it would take a lot longer to bring it to the market.

Yes, you could end up with problems on your PC but in my humble opinion, it is worth the risk.

sorry i cant agree ,spend to much time fixing problems from stuff like sp2 and sp3 beta when people install them,Oh yeah and there was another one called IE7 ,lol

Alright I have a big problem with my gateway laptop, I'm posting this from my PC. Here is my problem, it wont let me connect to the internet with the wireless connection and it seems like my wireless connection in my whole house is down due to this one computer. Its up and running but no computers can connect to it. The laptop also can not connect to the internet using a cable from a internet jack. No clue on how to fix this. I've done everything I think is possible, please help!

everything ,if all computers cant connect to the wireless then it must be the wirless router ,did you unplug it for a few minutes and then replug it back in ,
did you reset it to factory setting by pushing the button on the back with a small pin!

Also is there anyway to reinstall windows complete without using a disk? I do not have one.

No

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

and then... when right click/properties..
0 bytes used
0 bytes free..

what happens when you try to copy file to this one .

and another.. when i try to format...
it says there is no disk in the drive..
pls insert and try again...

go to disk manager and see if shows there ,and maybe try the format there .

put this into run in start ,compmgmt.msc ,it will open computer management .in left pane got to disk management

Re: Really Emergency!
You've pretty much, with the post above, burned all your bridges. We all know you're frustrated, but taking it out on people who are trying to take time out of their day to try and help you, FOR NOTHING IN RETURN BUT YOUR THANKS, will pretty much get everyone to stop helping REAL FAST.

So, I would say that if you don't care about your Ubuntu partition at all, and just want Windows back, that you follow the directions above to put your Windows XP disc in, and press R to recover Windows. Running "fixmbr" takes Ubuntu completely out of the equation and puts windows back in charge of booting your computer, so that there will be no more grub at all, no menu.lst to mess with, no booting into ubuntu, nothing. Just put the Windows disc in, and tell it to repair the existing windows installation, or go into the Recovery Console and fixmbr.

There are a number of Windows resources to help you with the XP recovery process, but ubuntuforums.org isn't one of them.
