if its not in emulation mode, you cannot install xp unless you nlite in the chipset drivers
thats because XP does not natively support SATA

that i realize ,my question was when i set it to emulate ,do i change it back in the bios after the install of xp

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

How do you re-intall a video driver when you have no interface to work with?

hi,if you are referring to the problem you are having with the computer not showing on the monitor ,i think you need to make sure that computer is working ,windows would use a default video driver ,and load and show big icons ,like as if you were in safe mode !!!,if no drivers are installed for you video card

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i have a ? when you do this ,"SATA is set to IDE Emulation Mode" do you turn it back on after you install winxp ,thanks ,sorry to butt in

i would guess revolutions per minute, never hear of Response per minuter ,nano seconds maybe!lol

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Yes the pc is working as far as I know.

if it worked it would show on the monitor !!
i would unplug all power to drives and remove any pci addin cards
Then i would start with the power supply ,if you have one to swap with !
its also possible its the motherboard or the processor ,

my all icon clear on my desktop.what can i do.

hi,you might want to re-phrase that ,what is "my all icon clear " do you mean that there are no icons at all on you desktop.
If yes ,do,ALT+ctrl+del ,and in the task manager go to File, new task ,and type in EXLPORER.EXE ,hit enter

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

don't know about you pixels but the fan action is normal, only comes back on when it gets hot .
i would guess the pixels problem is either lcd or video driver related

Trouble is, when changing out the DIMM, the PC saw the correct sizes every time ??

,

so the computers boots to a screen where yo ucan see the ram count ,and does it just sit there beeping ,
also, the bios chip makers, is what you need to reference for the beep codes ,the bios chip is on the motherboard . if it AMI BIOS
check this .link.
http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm.

and this one that suggest its possible the motherboard and not the ram .check the Recommendation by the red hand

FN usually works in tune with a num lock key in the top row of keys,
sound more like maybe you split something on the keyboard though

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

if it 3 short beeps it like a ram problem ,have you tried it with just one of the ram stick in the board ,are you sure its the right ram for the board ,is it DDR2 533/667
do you get anything on the screen at bootup, like can you get into the bios ,if yes install the bios defaults and save and reboot ,maybe, maybe not

Hello, Iam new to this group, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about my issue below. I check the pysical connections already its a Dell, I hope to aviod replacing my LCD screen, hopfully their are some troubleshooting fixes before I have to do that. Thank you

laptop screen appears to be malfunctioning, i.e. computer on, screen is off

first thing to do is try hooking the laptop to a regular computers monitor ,you connect the monitor and use the FN [function]key along with the corresponding F key maybe F5 or f7 ,the one with the 2 little monitors on it ,if the laptop displays correctly on that monitor ,you have a lcd problem

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

9 yr old drives will be ide/ata connection ,new may be SATA connection ,so it will only work as long as you new motherboard has IDE plug on the board ,they are getting scarce, but usually have one! its sometime in use by a ide cdrom device ,but you could disconnect the cdrom and slave a harddrive to it

yes I did, nothing happend

ok ,so changing a harddrive will not affect the ram count ,so one stick stopped working ,remove one stick and boot computer ,if computer boots ,then remove and replace ram with the other stick ,if computer boots ,then you know both stick work ,so that leads me to think that they don't work together, seen it many time ,if they did work together before them i'm at a lost for a reason ,sorry

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

We dont know, but if thats the case we cant really answer any questions on retreiving deleted data, backing data up, installing software, finding or changing product keys due to borked installations, how to format a pc ... where do we stop :-)

none of the above are asking for a password they don't have cant get either [as it says in this posters post !],

Oh, I see, going through it I can find some errors in Application. Mostly from crypt32 & Application Hang and theres a few warnings from Userenv, MsiInstaller, WinMgmt.
There is also some errors in System.
What do I do now?

in event viewer it gives dates/time of error go to one that is close to the last time you have blue screen error [also next time you get error write down the 00000000xx [312823000xc ] something like that ] double click on the error , then click on the blue gomicrosoft.com link and then click yes .and you will then see the details of the error if its the bsod error you should see the 0xxxxxxx0x numbers there if so post the number back here

i tried to open the 'My Documents' folder on the old harddrive in the new OS, but it gives me the simple "Access is denied" message and won't let me access the file from that hard drive.

hi ,this happens to me when trying to save file for customers ,by putting there hdd in my computer ,its cause is related to the fact that there was a password on the account when you used this drive , ii would just put the drive back in there computer and remove the password ,but of course there are times when that wasn't possible because windows was corrupt/or blue screening .i then would have to try a "chkdsk /f" to get the computer working to remove the password ,

you could also try this if you are using winxp Pro,

If you are running XP Home it is a bit more difficult.
You have to boot into SAFE MODE by pressing F8 while the computer boots, then log onto an administrator account.

the blue screen error # make not of it and post it back here .also go to start /run and put this , eventvwr.msc ,in and check for error in system
