I have never done it because a guy, a buddy of mine, that has a masters degree in computer science told me that defragging fixes things that do not need to be fixed, In which they can harm files on your computer. Secondly, I do know what defraging is, I just never did it for the reason above!!!

you know he maybe right ,but i've beed defragging for years ,even with
3rd party software and it never caused me any problems, that i know of anyway .

Thanks, Caperjack,

I found that Micro$oft has an 'upgrade' to fix it. I ran that last weekend, but I won't know for sure for a while as I only go home on the weekends right now, but so far it was looking like it fixed it.

Your welcom, hope the patch works for you .

winme or win98s' bootdisk will recognize the ntfs.when you type in fdisk ,it will open and you chose 4 to view non dos partition ,you can even delete the partition and create a dos partition if you want to loose all data on disk,i know you don't want to do this though .if you download the xp floppys this will give you the option of using the xp recovery consol to replace the missing file ,i personally think your hdd is dead ,even though it shows in the bios.

My PC restarts unexpectedly. I use Windows XP with Service Pack 2. The error report contains following details,

Error Report Contents

C:\DOCUME~1\Gayanath\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERd2a0.dir00\Mini030607-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Gayanath\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERd2a0.dir00\sysdata.xml

I searched the Temp folder but couldn't find WERd2a0.dir00 in it.
Is this a kind of virus? How can I get rid of this?

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Hello ,no its not a virus but could be caused by virus/or spyware /trojan or the like .anyway try this, to get the full error after doing this you should get a blue screen with a error message write it down and repost back with the error . right click on mycomputer go to properties/advanced/ in startup and recovery /settings/and uncheck to automatically restart

actually turning off restore is a good thing as if there viruses living in there theyll just reinfect his system again

not untill you do a system restore will they reinfest again ,so its recommended that you clean the drive first of all baddies , then turn off the restore and turn it back on .that way you at least have a bad restore to use if something should happen before you remove all nasties .!Therefor a bad restore is better than no restore !!

try turning your restore of before u scan for virus .then delete virus rescan if clean turn restore back on.try avast.

don't be too quick to turn of restore a bad restore is better than no restore ,unless you don't care about doing a fresh windows reinstall that is

Anyone know if they've released a 64bit version of Group Policy Management Console?

I need one bad =(

none according to this faq info .
http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/technologies/featured/gp/faq.mspx

Where can I find the 64-bit version of GPMC?
A.

The current version of GPMC will operate on the 32-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 and can remotely manage Group Policy objects on 64-bit domain controllers. The current version of GPMC does not include a 64-bit version, and the 32-bit version does not run on 64-bit platforms. Windows Vista will include 32-bit and 64-bit versions of GPMC.

it has always been said that you can use a xp upgrade disk to do a full install ,and yes all you need to do is put in a legit windows disk either win98 or win2000 will do. during the install ,winxp pro install will ask for you to put in the win98 disk as proof of ownership.

Last good configuration does nothing, it trys to boot up windows (i assume, anyway) and then returns to the same screen.

I am also unable to install the HD into another computer, wouldn't know how to, and my only other computer is a laptop.

Thanks anyway though

put the windows disk in the cdrom ,reboot computer to the windows disk and choose repair ,using the recovery consul, type in , CHKDSK /r,note there is a space between the K and the /r, let window scan and repair the drive ,when its finished remove the windows cd from the drive, and type in exit, and reboot windows this may fix you problem

Hey, i'm trying to fix this laptop for a buddy, and it won't startup.. it goes to straight to the screen with it saying it's sorry for the inconvience but windows couldn't start. then it let me choose from safe mode, start windows from last working configuration, and start windows normally. None of these work. So i put in a boot disk, and it says invalid Boot.ini file, starting from the C:\windows\ and then returns to the Sorry for the inconvience screne once more. Does anyone have suggestions?

hello ,first suggestion is to tell us what OS[windows version ]is he using and what boot disk you tried

I recently purchased a second drive and installed it as a slave, but this did not fix the prblem. I also increased the ram at the same time from 512mb to 1gb, but this did not help either.

cant help it ,adding a slave drive fixes nothing just gives more space to store stuff ,has nothing to do with you full drive ,90% full, you need to move some of the data you have saved on the full drive to the new slave drive ,stuff like movies, music, pictures ,any data you created or downloaded .

Hi, I have DSL connection in my office and I want to use it at home. How can I connect using dial-up? Kindly help me on how to set up the configuration?

not sure such a thing can be done ,found this ,but i think its a little far fetched and expensive software
