Re: There are definitely still some bugs and things to work out with the new layout. :) As far as not being able to login from the homepage, I believe that's related to me forgetting to set a form variable in the login form which tells the browser to set cookies …
Re: *ping Davey ping* <= he'll have to answer this one for you. I don't work with the blog section much.
I would like to move my forum database to a new server. However, the MySQL database is approximately 700 megs, and takes a great deal of time to import. Doing a [inlinecode]mysql> source backup.sql[/inlinecode] took well over 12 hours the last time I did it, and that was months ago. …
Re: The problem is due to a particular thread title that is all one word (such as a long URL) which stretches out the thread title column of the table too much.
Re: Randomly? Aside from eing off to the far left, that page doesn't look right at all. Could you send me a screenshot of what a DaniWeb page usually looks like to you in Opera? Thanks! (I don't have access to that web browser to test)
Re: I would check hotscripts. I know they have a good selection of these, but I can't recommend any specific one. Sorry.

I use a third party ad server to deliver the advertisements on my site. There are two invocation methods: IFRAME and JavaScript. I currently use the IFRAME method because it allows the full webpage to render independently of the ads ... in other words, without slowing down browser rendering time …
I took the big plunge and finally got up enough courage to do what I've been wanting to do for a very long time now ... rename /techtalkforums/ to just /forums/. I've set up 301 redirects and updated my Google sitemap. Is there anything else that I should to to …
Re: It's a well-known IE6 bug. There is a JavaScript workaround but the extra bulk is not worth it to me since FireFox is unaffected and the bug has been corrected in IE7.
Re: Hello waystar! Enjoy your stay. Good luck with your programming endeavors.
Re: I have the linux version of VMWare 4 which lets me have a linux host and windows virtual machine. In that version, I can use the virtual machine configuration editor (when the vm is powered down) to map a drive. I have never tried the windows version of vmware.

Re: It might be that there are multiple datacenters feeding the Google toolbar.
Re: It works fine for me. Additionally, the thread has like 250 posts, which is an indicator that lots and lots of other people can view the thread fine. :(
Re: > pressed Search it changed the selection to "Entire Site" and produced a list of 3 pages This is by design. > But it will display only the first page even when I select one of the other two pages. I fixed this bug. Thanks!
Re: Yeah, it's preg_replace, not oreg_replace. Also read up about regex (regular expressions).
Re: We have never had such a forum to avoid targeting the teenage / gamer type, instead trying to focus on reaching and attracting professionals with careers in IT. However, such discussion would be welcome in the Geeks' Lounge.

Re: Google supplemental results have been around for a very long time (at least from what I can remember). Their purpose is to have a place in Google's index for webpages that don't have enough inbound links, etc to be worthy enough to be in Google's regular index. Make sure you …
Re: We use the CSS method because I was having a problem getting the JavaScript method to be as cross-compatible among browsers and platforms as I would have liked. All hacks are custom so nothing off of vB.org :)
Re: > I think that's it for current monthly contributions anyway! What about DaniWeb?!
I was just wondering what everyone's opinions were on deleting members, should they ask? When a user is deleted, are all their posts switched to the Unregistered username? I have a policy where I will never delete a user from the database. If a member requests to be removed, I …
Re: Check out Google Custom Search.
Re: Hi. Thank you for your suggestion. We actually used to have a Flash and ActionScript forum. However, it wasn't very popular and didn't get much activity. Therefore, it was condensed into our Graphics and Multimedia forum. Once we see a significant number of ActionScript-related questions being asked in this forum …
As many of you know, I live in New York. And I am thinking about putting together a get together party for DaniWeb members this upcoming summer (about ten months from now). It would be great if you guys could let me know whether you would be up for something …

Re: Start with something small and you can always upgrade your hosting plan to grow with your business.
Re: The ability to unsubscribe from within the thread page was removed because it requires a large table scan on each thread load to check whether you are subscribed to the thread or not ... and the percentage of users actually unsubscribing via thread pages is minimal compared to the overhead …
Re: I wish I could make that much money off of a single click, although it does violate the Google TOS to disclose this to us.
Re: There was a bug yesterday. It was fixed early this morning.
What are some good file comparison utilities other than Beyond Compare, which I use but find rather clunky and not as accurate as I'd like (for programming)?
Re: There is Google SafeSearch which will filter out X rated sites from the search results automatically, regardless of what's searched for.
Re: If you can figure it out, let me know. DaniWeb has been included in and then kicked out of and then reincluded in Google News more times than I can count.
Re: Well the idea is that, by making usernames public, people will be less likely to rep people for the sake of it, etc. and it can actually BECOME useful.
Re: The LowerMyBills site as a whole has a lot of incoming links, and therefore can spread around a lot of internal page rank to get all pages of its site well crawled.
Re: Since submitting a sitemap, I've noticed that my crawl rate has significantly increased and the amount of traffic google sends me has decreased / remained consistant. It could be other things I've changed at around the same time though :-/ |
