There's a probability that the file is corrupt on the server ... so it downloads completely and then only runs for the time it's not corrupt .... I usually encounter same problems but its always due to corrupt video files .. not anything else.

Try enabling vga mode ... after completely uninstalling your graphics card driver ... if it works ... then its a problem with your vga card driver ... try another compatible one.

You did all those upgrades and didnt install a video driver for your graphics card ?? Most probably you dont have your graphics card driver installed .. windows in running its own basic graphics driver.

I assume you're using windows xp with default configuration .... Can you have the task manager by pressing ctrl alt del .. ? If yes , try end tasking explorer.exe and then starting a new task explorer.exe.
