You don't need the freezer yet, and you may damage it that way. The freezer method works only rarely, and you should avoid the person who suggested this.
I'll bet there are screws under those black strips on the top and bottom, which will likely slide right off. Inside there will probably be two connectors, one for power, one for data.
You can either try another case, or get the adapter I suggested. which is a very handy item if you tinker with PCs.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

I'm saying remove the drive from the case-it's very often the case that's at fault, not the drive.
CD burning is pretty easy, and pretty bullet-proof, so you need to look at your method or your hardware for the problem.

Get an external drive and backup to CD/DVD as often as is prudent.
This is a good program, and there are many more.
http://backup.comodo.com/
For critical needs such as yours, it would be wise to get a pro to help with the initial setup.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

It's very possible this is just a failure of the electronics in the case.
Remove the drive and attach it with a USB adapter and see if you can access it:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2583340&CatId=3770
RAID just gives you more Hard Drives that can fail also.
Get an online backup service and backup to CD/DVD regularly.

In the run box, type cmd
At the Dos prompt, enter ipconfig and post the results here.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Try it as master on the 2d IDE channel (I assume this is where your CD is connected).

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Toggle the wireless adapter (Fn-2) and try to view again.
If that doesn't work, and your adapter says it's functioning, you need to get in touch with Dell. This has always worked flawlessly for me, so either your configuration is way off, or there's a hardware problem.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

What, exactly, does the DOS prompt say?
C: would suggest you haven't booted to your CD ROM.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

If this isn't a hardware problem, it might be interference. Microwaves, portable phones and others can cause this.
I'd start by changing the wireless channel, which you can access through the router's setup page.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

You need to change the boot order in the BIOS so the computer boots to the CD, then follow the prompts to install.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Typically, this would be a problem with overheating, bad memory or some other hardware failure.
Does your fan work? Try re-seating the memory or the hard drive.
Unplug any peripherals you may have attached.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

That's the icon. I don't think there's any visible sign when you toggle it.
What happens when you right-click?
You should get a list of wireless networks.

All windows PCs have an admin account.
What is your OS?
Just Google: "(OS Name) admin account"

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Fn-2 is the proper key combo.
Do you see a wireless icon in the system tray?

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

You haven't given us any useful info .
What OS? What kind of connection? What computer? Any error messages?
There's no "bug" that causes this, but viruses and spyware may be at fault.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Modern computers don't care what device is on what channel.
The only caveat I know of is that data transfer is faster between devices on different channels.

Please start your own thread to avoid confusion.

Trying to hook up a Pioneer DVD Multi-Recorder, but I'm having some probs. The first time, my computer kept restarting and error reporting when you turned it on. The second time, both me D: and E: were running at the same time. I don't understand the Master and Slave concept. Could someone please explain it to me so I will know how to hook up my hardware? Thanks.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Most likely, you need to reboot the modem when you switch connections.
It's perfectly safe to use a router and connect both computers at once, which is what most people do.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Run the wireless network wizard.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Yes.
Uninstall this adapter and reboot to reinstall it. (Just rt-click it in Device Manager).
It's possible you need to update this driver, so check the Dell site also.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Look in Device manager under Network adapters. You should see two, one for wired and one for wireless

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

What do the diagnostic lights say?
I'd bet you have a good chance of fixing this by opening the case and re-seating all the components (Especially the video card).

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

The additional wireless PC won't conflict with the existing one. That's what routers are for.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

I have this Netbook, and there's no switch.
Is SSID broadcast on?
Are the wireless adapter drivers installed?
Can you connect via ethernet?
Is the Wireless Zero Service running?
Have you run the wireless Network wizard?

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Have you tried Safe Mode?
You might have some luck with a repair install, or recovery console:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
As a last resort, you may have a recovery partition.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Most likely, but you'll have to reinstall Windows, or at least do a repair install.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

You probably forgot to credit the people you copied this from.
Some of these tweaks are very questionable.
What does "Never than before" mean?

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

You very plainly implied that the AMD processor might be the problem, not that it matters much.
What error messages did you get?

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

HP includes XP in the FAQ for this machine, so you're probably OK.
Last time I looked, the XP upgrade was $89.00 (If you can find it) and RAM is cheap nowadays-get at least 512 MB.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

That one is fine, but you may wish to get one with wireless capabilities also, as that's the trend nowadays.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

You need to reinstall your video driver.
What's the make/model of your computer?
The specs of the Video adapter would also help.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

What is your system config ???
If it is AMD, then i must tell you that i tried to install windows 7 on my friends AMD but it didnt install and give strange error messages. I installed from the same disc on my intel successfully.
What is the version of the windws you are trying to install?

If you read the post, he's trying to install the Windows 7 Beta.
Windows 7 works fine on AMD processors.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

It may help to check that your video cable is fully seated at both ends and has no bent pins.
Try the monitor on another PC to verify it's OK.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

A "PCI controller" is usually a telephone modem, and I assume you want an ethernet connection.
Is there a network adapter in Device Manager?
If not, buy a new NIC.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Download it and run it. It's probably the best diagnostic for Your HD as it's made by the manufacturer, and they know your drive the best.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Download the diagnostic software from the HD manufacturer and run it for a more definitive result.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

You must have Samba installed and you must edit /etc/samba/smb.conf.
Everything you need is here:

Post smb.conf if you continue to have problems.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

This is not good.
Download the diagnostic software from the HD manufacturer and run it for a more definitive result.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

HP will sell you a recovery disk.
If this is just a driver problem, all the drivers are available at the HP site.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Are they all in the same Workgroup?

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

There are many ways, but then what? You're still going to need a CD drive to install XP, so just replace the drive.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

They probably created this copy to ensure your docs weren't lost. Typically, I'll create a copy and then copy it back to the PC when reinstall the OS.
This has no effect on your memory usage, but it does take up a lot of HD space.
I doubt that it's replicating itself, but I suppose that's possible.
In any case, if you're sure you have copies of everything, just delete "Owner's Documents."

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

I've had good luck with Ophcrack:
http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Is the Wireless Zero service running?
In Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services, scroll down and Start, if it's not running.
Some computers come with a separate program that controls your wireless settings, so look for that also.
Once WZ is running, you should see a wireless icon in the system tray. Rt-click to "View Available Networks", select your network and you'll be prompted to enter the Key and SSID.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Yes, but are they current, especially since you've installed security?
This often happens inadvertently, also. I have accidentally connected to my neighbor's wi fi from time to time, so these may not be "intruders" at all, just accidental travellers.
Refresh your network map and see who's there now.
If they are, you can set up MAC filtering, but remember that neither filtering nor WEP are rigorous.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Why do think you have an intruder-what's the evidence?
Does this intruder show up in the Network page in the router configuration?
This program will tell you what machines are active on your network:
