You followed microsofts instructions by installing SP2 before SP3 right?

SP3 doesnt include SP1 (sp1 is unsupported now) , so if you install it onto XP RTM, it causes wierd problems.

Did you use clean media or a slipstreamed one?

does it still give you the error?

If you havent got SP3, you need to download Windows Installer 3.1

For a wireless network, definately use encryption but for a wired network, unless it has an insecure path (e.g intruders are able to easialy physically connect) or you are doing something really confidential, then its not needed.

Thats your problem there. The CPU temp is too hot.

try microsoft virtual pc or openbox. Both are free and offer more features than the free vmware version

Basically its handy because you could virtualise a number of servers (whole different OSes, in fact, each virtual instance would appear to the os as a whole diferent physical machine) and in this way, you can maximise your serer space. 1 rack server running 5 operating systems is very space efficient.

For development, I run a number of OSes in VMWare. That way, i can tinker with them as much as i want, and if they break, its not the end of the world.
