Re: Sounds like a burned out PSU. With luck it was just that, but there's a good chance that any component connected to one of the damaged wires will be shot.
Re: That is very hot, there's no surprise that it's failing. Obviously an after-market cooler would help, but the stock should work as long as you're not over-clocking. If you're hitting temperatures like that on both your CPU and GPU it must be an issue with ambient temperature, either a poorly …
Re: It really depends on your needs and goals. Dreamweaver is probably the single most useful tool for a web designer, but it is very expensive and overkill for a lot of begining projects. I'd say play around with a text editor first. I learned most of my web design skills …
Re: Well, the OS is not likely to boot but it should generate an "ntoskrnl missing", maybe an "invalid boot drive slected", and probably make it to windows splash screen and fail to boot successfully. I'm guessing you damaged the cable when you unhooked it or the drive in transport. Go …
Re: Go to the sites that sell the test vouchers. They'll give you information on available test centers and training institutions which you can contact directly looking for job openings.
Re: I'm assuming you're talking about LCD, not Plasma. Plasma screens are large-format TV's (42" + ) where LCD is monitors and TVs from 1"-42+". Flat-panel monitors (as far as I know) are all LCD. They do save power. It probably shouldn't be a selling point for residential use since it …
Re: Could be a lot of things, probably something weird with the power system that it's not shutting off cleanly. Does it do this when your system goes to sleep, or only if you hit the power button?
Re: What are you trying to do? You shouldn't need the CD ever, and definitely not after first use. All the CD does is help walk you through set-up, which can be done manually by following the set-up instructions in the manual (offered as a PDF on netgears website)
I'm looking for an open-source (I could live with paid as long as it's not per-client licenses) that will allow me to create system restore disks. The situation is that I like to include restore disks with computers I sell/give to my clients/friends and don't think that it's really within …
Re: Two options, If you didn't already try to use the "last known good configuration" that might do the job. Failing that you can do a "repair install" if you have the original system disk. This will replace all system files, scan the system and configure all the start-up settings, ect,..
Re: This is usually a defective hard drive, so it's odd that it would come back clean. I would suggest: 1. open the case and re-seat all the cables. 2. reset your BIOS manually by unplugging the system and removing (then reinserting) the CMOS battery, if you're not comfortable with this …
Re: Assuming I'm reading your question right... It depends on the service and the modem. If your modem has DHCP built in or your ISP assigns multiple IP addresses then it's probably a matter of imporper configuration. If your ISP doesn't do this then you need DHCP on your router to …
Re: sounds like it might be a hardware problem, or BIOS. if there's a newer version of your BIOS use them. The other thought is that it's an issue with one of the drives and it's having a hard time coming up from "cold" run thorough disk checks on them and …
Re: I'm personally a Google fan, knowing full well that they're not the messiah (as many seem to believe). I think it's the most useful tool on the internet, but I have the full knowledge not to use it for anything too "delicate". Everything has a downside, most companies have an …
Re: Print and scan drivers are different, I know that a lot of HPs printers just have one big file that does it all, but look into installing the print and scan drivers separately.
Re: I think it depends on the host. Some free hosts add banners, which could negatively effect you, Plus they will limit what you can do with your site, maybe hurting traffic. The biggest difference would be that free hosts wont give you your own domain, I'm not sure how much …
Re: It wouldn't work. The whole concept of DDR ram is that it runs in full duplex mode, opposed to SDRAM that runs in half-duplex. It's just too dis-similar to have any potential. It would be like putting a DVD in a CD drive and trying to write software to read …
Re: Chkdsk doesn't always come back after every improper shut-down, it seems like it used to so it might be an issue with one of the recent service packs. Is your only concern that it doesn't run check disk or is there another issue that you're trying to fix with chkdsk?
Re: When you installed XP you either left the current file system intact or did a system "upgrade" instead of a clean install. Essentially you installed windows XP without deleting any of the old folders. If you'd like to correct this install XP again, this time when it asks you to …
I'm working on small-business outreach in my area and I'm really running short on leads. I wanted to start this thread to help me, and other independent IT professionals/firms, target valuable industries. I've had good luck with: Lawyers Accountants Property Management Anybody else have an industry that usually needs outsourced …
Re: Try and track down where the space is going, you can either do this manually by going to my computers> C: using right-click> properties to see the file size, then when you figure out which folder is the culprit follow the same procedure down the file system until you find …
Re: It seems like the same process would work, If it doesn't you could try virtualization software (I've never used virtualization with a mac client, but I'm sure it exists) to tun tiger for your design work. I'm surprised that any Tiger software wouldn't work on Leopard, have you actually tried …
Re: Nothing you did should have had any effect on the screen. With that said, there is something wrong with your video adapter, it might have just been a coincidence. If you know how to access your router, turn the laptop on and connect it to the network. If your router …
Re: Like Jbennet said, Repair installs often break windows update. I've had great luck with WUfix: http://wiki.castlecops.com/Windows_Update_Fixhttp://wiki.castlecops.com/Windows_Update_Fix
Re: Did you make any changes to the system, adding more software or changing drivers? I'd try re-installing the game.
Re: I've never really seen anything waterproof with a microphone. The basic principle of a microphone makes it virtually imposible to water-proof while maintaining functionality.
Re: I use google apps for my mail. All features of Gmail at my own domain. It doesn't love dial-up, so you'll either have to use a mial client or set HTML to be the default.
Re: Go to the samsung site, support section, find the drivers page for your model.
Re: Is the backlight going off or just diming? I remember an HP laptop that was set like this by default, a weird backwards setting where the screen brightness went down on power instead of battery. Snoop around the Power settings in control panel and see if anything stands out, as …
Re: Post this in the appropriate board, probably tech talk "microsoft windows" or "networking" and we'll see what we can do to help.
Re: Is there an option to disable boot-up floppy search? It's not recognizing your hard drive properly, I couldn't tell you why. It will probably generate that error until you put in a drive it likes, I'd probably just put in a different hard drive and ghost the image from this …
Re: What would a pharmaceutical sales job have to do with IT? This is an IT forum, I'd be really surprised if anybody could give you good advice on a pharmaceutical career.
Re: You shouldn't ever have to install a CD driver, but you should NEVER transfer system files from windows 98 to XP. They are not the same files and even if some are interchangeable it's a huge risk.
Re: At what point does it BSOD? If the drive works in the other system it's probably a matter of defective hardware. Tell us where in the process it BSODs, whether or not you can boot in safe mode, ect,...
Re: Don't know what to say about the Win98 problem, and I have no idea why you would NEED to use 98. Pretty much anything that runs on 98 will run on XP using compatibility mode. As for the internet issue with XP, I'd guess she doesn't have the Network driver …
Re: Optical drives in laptops are really proprietary. There's no guarantee that any drive, other than the model it shipped with, will work properly. Did you make sure to check compatibility on this Phillips drive?
Re: You can't defragment an entire drive, it's by partition. So you wont have to worry about defragmenting one drive effecting the other. As far as what disk defragmenting is, think of it like this: When you have a pizza, you take pieces here and there leaving gaps, but when you …

Re: Most firewall software interferes with networking by default. Make sure this network is set to "trusted" or go into the "rules" or "exceptions" section of the firewall settings and make set a "trusted" IP range for the systems he wants to interconnect.
Re: Well, if it's really taken that long that is ridiculous but... That system should never have vista on it. It barely meets the minimum requirements and, at least in my opinion, vista isn't usable unless you have AT LEAST the minimum recommended. The only thing I see wrong is that …
Re: *This advice is not condoned by OlyComputers, Rather a vague hint by Fredrick* If you can download a copy of the same version of frontpage off of a torrent site you should be able to use your key. To the best of my knowledge and research thsi is not illegal …
Re: I think (will not guarantee) that 1 will restore the factory default and move all your data to a back-up folder. DO NOT use 3, obviously. If you have multiple partitions use option 2, it will leave secondary partitions intact.
Re: You can't really "merge" accounts, but you can go into cotrol panel> uesers and delete one. Back up any data that might be on it first and put it where you want it on the other account. What's the name of the new user account? If it's "Administrator" do not …
Re: DVD drives shouldn't need drivers. Some DVD Burners do in win2k, but there's no reason a DVD rom would need a driver. Is it hooked up and just not recognizing it, or are you trying to find the driver before install?
Re: If there is a BIOS upgrade use it. The SPD error means that the system can't accurately asses the type of ram in use. Try going into your BIOS and manually adjusting the RAM settings to the specs on the manufacturers product page.
Re: It really depends on what you're doing. Any video card with the proper ports will run the monitors, but if you want to do graphics intensive tasks at high resolutions you'll need something beefier. The basics are that PCI express x1 and x16 are different "sockets" based on the same …

Re: Personally, I'd just replace it. Replacement of an optical drive only takes a few minutes and you can get a DL DVD burner with lightscribe for $25 dollars shipped. Use this as an excuse to get the upgrade. |
The End.
