Program called Bootvis you can run on the machine to see whats making it hang. Most likely is the prefetch folder, I disabled this "feature" as I find it to be more a hindrance than a help. If you wanna disable it, do this: 1. run "regedit"; 2. goto [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session …

Little setup info needed. Wireless, Ethernet, what type of network. Also, laptop is able to access the network? Or no? If no, check for latest drivers, or uninstall the NIC in device manager and reboot. What OS are you trying to connect from? Same OS (XP) or 2000, etc? How …

control panel, sounds is the obvious one, failing that, reinstall the game and then uninstall. You also might want to try an uninstaller program (third party) to uninstall. Virus scan, etc...

Joe posted a heck of a list on this page too, performance tweaks. I actually copied it (text) and made it into a Adobe Acrobat file. Really good list, btw Joe.

Great program for getting rid of reg keys, called regcleaner (original, no?). You can get it here: http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/programs/regcleaner.exe

Delete all your temporary internet files, run disk cleanup on your machine (right-click C: in my computer, diskcleanup). Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp and delete all files in there. Navigate to C:\WUTEMP and delete all files in this directory as well. Make sure you have XP's firewall turned OFF …

If the display is under warranty, contact the manufacturer. ctrlf4 is correct, this is most likely a faulty connection cable, or the inverter card. If it's out of warranty, and you feel confident of your abilities, you might see if they can give you a place to order these parts, …

If your budget is tight, all you need is a DVD-RW drive. Plays DVD's and CD's, burns DVD's and CD's. Some, however, don't like having the more expensive DVD burner do all the work of playing CD's and DVD's, as it can make it fail prematurely. If that's you, buy …

search on Kazaa or whatever for Nimo Codec Pack. Has everything you need, and now comes with a pretty slick install utility too. Beware of viruses on kazaa called this, it is usually 8.0MB or larger, up to about 15MB (last I checked)

U can get a 256MB stick and ad it to your existing RAM = 512MB. Crucial, Kingston are really decent, and not usually much more than some of the lesser known, less trusted brands. Yes, very very easy. Have the machine off, ground yourself (hold onto bare metal on the …

whats your power supply rating and manufacturer? Also good be your memory, software memory testers may not catch all errors, but they catch most. Here's a decent (very decent for free) one: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3955 and if you want to check the CPU on your machine, try this: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=273 Reason why I …

Yup. XP pro I assume. Common problem, login as administrator (not administrative rights, adminstrator), go to tools, folder options, and take the check out of 'enable simple file sharing'. Click apply, and then the apply to all folders button. Right click on the "My Documents" folder, Properties>Security>Advanced>Owners. Put your username …

Um, dunno, but those look normal to me. Spoolsv is just your print server/driver, ccevtmgr.exe is a symantec event manager, and the r_server is a remote admin. Now the last one could be a hack if your not using remote admin, but a legit prog if you are, or are …

Thats called a password protected account. You'll need to login as administrator (not adminstrative rights, administrator) and change the ownership of the protected account to whoever you want to have access to it. To do this, you'll need to display the security tab (by default, not enabled in XP Pro.. …

Make sure you have the boot drive into IDE channel 0 (or 1, however your board is labled), and also check the jumpers again... Some drives have a setting for single drive, and setting to primary implys a slave, which can make the drive not boot. FAILING THAT, however, you …
