I personally think that the use of social media during work hours is just another example on how "procastination" behavior has shifted from talk at the water cooler to solitaire to social media (and trackable) distraction. What will be next?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

If you go to Twitter, people share every little detail of their lives. Would you do that too?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Mobile is growing and growing. Hence, have you used or explored mobile push campaign to recruit new members to your online community? Im just curious.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Yes, I totally agree with Jay. Just remember that the prize has to be alluring enough in the first place. :-)

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Most importantly, it is very important to create relevant and fresh content that is all inter-related. Search engine crawlers love this and will reward your site accordingly by placing high on SERPs.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I am wondering what will inspire someone to even sell their template in the first place?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Very true observation. I dont think people send out snail mail christmas cards anymore.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Well thank you Dani. Very good point. I do wonder how many of these social media consultants actually have a portfolio.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Well, did I get your attention? If I did, it worked!!!

I wonder how many people who freely use the term social media actually understands it. Do they understand its uses and implications? Or could it be a fad that most will forget after a while. What do you think?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I have been at so many internet marketing events where every other person is a social media consultant. So I ask, "If you hired a social media consultant, what factors or qualities are you looking for?"

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I agree with you Jay. I just thought those cards looked "cheesy" at first. I dont think I will be adding those components anytime soon.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I agree. I did see the english version of the page but its mostly UK related. I can see this option as a very good push strategy.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I remember the day when business cards were small and contained the basic information. It seems though that many internet marketers have a very social media friendly business card, with logos, profile picture, and all their social media contact information. So would you create such a card? If you have such a card, do you think it has helped you become more connected?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Social media have allowed users to share their lives in many different ways, via updates, images, voice, videos, etc. Now that many platforms are integrated, it is easier to catalog and archive your life. From a privacy perspective, I personally would be hesitant towards this. I just read about a new tool that allows publicizing your life easier - http://www.mov.io/ Would you make your life that public?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Years ago, chat was a big thing. Now, chat is also a regular part of social media and online communication. I know at many jobs, my bosses wanted us to either use Yahoo Messenger or Google Chat to continue communication - even if we were just a few offices away. So how have you used chat in your business and normal life?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I just read online about a new site that helps users obtain mobile coupons for nearby businesses. I do find this useful if this service if the value is worth it. Check this site out:
http://www.vooch.at/eng/homepages/index
I personally would use it. What about you? I know my friend has shared with me her coupon from an email for me to get a discount at Borders. So that is why I would use this.

There are countless e-programs and many people subscribe to it, but the true question is, do these e-learners actually finish their curriculum. What about University of Phoenix, which is solely digital? I know I personally have signed up for many e-learning classes and forgot to finish them with the exception of two.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I have done manual qualitative assessment of sentiments on social media and used those tools. What I have is that using one tool alone is not enough. Even the best tools are not 100% accurate and may take one word and misinterpret the meanings. Thus, until that time comes when tools are more precise, it is necessary to use both.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Many advertisers shy away from Myspace unless they are specifically targeting musicians and teens. Imagine Myspace as a party central. For small business, it is best to go to Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

If you go through DaniWeb, you will see lots of suggestions and tips posted on this topic. For starters, you need to create profiles, have fans and followers, and start creating a sense of community in both. Be social!

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I have a few twitter accounts and I have posted links in all of them. It depends on many factors such as:
1. the quality of your posts - are you only posting links or are you actually contributing to others by retweeting and responding to other - thus creating that sense of community
2. Are your links self serving or its actually helping others?
3. Type of followers

All these factors affect your click through rate in TwitterLand.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I totally agree with you. LinkedIN is the best first stop followed by creating a Facebook page. From a push/pull perspective, I also recommend setting budget for advertising on Facebook and PPC.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Actually, I worked with one former client who did create such community on Communispace. The outcome was positive for insights and for brand awareness. The initiative was stopped due to the marketing budget cut. :-(
Negative threads or threads that can stir regulatory violations and fines are BIG in any industry, especially in Pharma. That is why many pharma companies are extremely hesistant about monitoring and creating a forum because of these issues. Look at the commentary slides I created on this issue some time ago:

Thanks for sharing this post Happy Geek. Though I have a few Twitter accounts, I personally have seen Twitter full of "Oh Lords" or "Im waiting for my lunch" chatter. Does this elucidate the reader? I strongly doubt it. I feel that Twitter is now the modern version of eaves dropping street conversations or one person sighs to be honest.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Yes I have seen this but I also have seen the opposite where the majority of the advertising/marketing spend is for social media through third party partnership or directly (but it also depends on the type of product and type of targeted consumer). For example, I am working with a client whose social media initiative includes widgets and polls on online communities, both unbranded and branded. These were small one quarter initiatives and if the campaign goes successfully, the social media budget will definitely be expanded. I hope this answers your question.

Hi Sathish,

I strongly recommend you to go through DaniWeb to find answers to all your questions. DaniWeb has a wealth of information from experts and professionals. If you still have a few unanswered questions, then go visit Mashable.com and CNET.com for starters. Enjoy!

I would also add that this professional should have a strong curiosity to keep up with trends, best practices, and with case studies of what other businesses have know that worked and did not worked. This way, the professional can have an arsenal of knowledge that will lead the recommendations to a higher level of effectiveness.

OMG - I wonder what is the click-through rate and conversion rate for this very expensive keyword. As an advertiser, I would pay this much if the CTR and conversion rate from these visitors generate income to the site.

I read on a blog that Facebook will have a new look - http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/091020-141738

I personally did not see much difference on the Facebook page except the letters looked bigger but I thought I changed my screen settings. So what do you think about it?

We all have received multiple emails from Nigeria requesting us for funds. Also, if you saw District 9, "The Nigerians" also played a bully role on the site. Thus, I thought this was sort of funny but I am glad the Nigerias are finally taking a stand.

I dont think I ever untapped the powers of Excel for advanced analytics. Thus, as Im going through these tutorial books, I do wonder what are your tips to help you analyze data quickly and efficiently. Help!

Perhaps I am not hip yet, but I read too much about Hulu. I just read Hulu will start charging for content. Why is this big news? Perhaps is it because in today's society, people have become accustomed to a free site or is it that people are just cheap. So when I read about Hulu charging, my thoughts are:
1. Will it affect membership?
2. Is hulu better than youtube?

So what are your thought?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I just read on a blog a new social media mashup site - tracked.com and I really liked it. http://www.tracked.com/
For an internet marketing professional, I really see this site has strong potential. So what do you think?

I just read on Mashable the results of this week's faceoff.

So I figured we members of DaniWeb can have our own FaceOff.

Netbooks are becoming more popular these days. Its portable and easy to use. Though an iPhone allows users to be connected online, I know a friend who bought a Netbook to better type up blog postings and updates. So would you buy a Netbook to increase your online connectivity?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Each of our our facebook pages are different. Why? Not only is it because of our postings on our wall, but also the apps we add to our pages. I just read about the plethora of Facebook apps on Mashable - http://mashable.com/2009/10/24/facebook-apps-guide/
So which apps do you use?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I personally have used Radian6 and though I found it useful for one brand, for another one, I found lots of clutter and I did not find any major influencers or sites to monitor from one of the detailed list or list of influencers.

What if there is a social media bill of rights? What will it say? Let's do some crowdsourcing now. What would you include?
See this: http://www.digitalconsumer.org/bill.html

My recommendations are:
1. Do not start unnecessary flame wars.
2. Always be nice and giving

What else would you add?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Once upon a time, I saw many sites that had a word cloud. Even some of the sentiment tools have a word cloud. I even think some websites have it. Do you think these wordclouds increase your stickiness to an online community?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

With all the changes constantly going on, I would not be surprised that in a few years from now or even months, it will be common place to go to a major search engine and see a little icon next to the search signaling me if its positive, negative, or neutral. There are already a few sentiment analysis tools out there but its not in the masses yet. So if you have used such tools, like Radian6, what do you think about it? Do you think you can actually sentimentalize social media?

No longer are the days when people would photo copy a note or a page of a copy. People now a days say "email it to me" or post it on FB. Thus, the other day, I was taking a commuter train from the burbs to NYC and noticed lots of Kindles instead of reading the WSJ or NYTs. Thus, with the advent of another e-book reader online - B&N EReader - I do wonder how this will make sharing books easier or harder in today's connected society. http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/10/nook-is-different/
One thing for sure, you just cant tear off a sheet from a book anymore.

Okay, Folks, we all know that writing online has disrupted the writing styles that our grammar school teachers have taught us. All I know it not to type in caps since it is yelling. Other than that - almost anything goes. So what do you think about this? I thought it was funny.

As people on this board may know, I have drank the Apple Kool-aid though I dont have an IPhone yet... Anyway, I just upgraded to Snow Leopard OS and I dont see any difference whatsoever. Not even online or offline.

Saying that, I do wonder if it will enhance my online experience, especially social media apps. I remember back in the days that everytime you upgraded your OS, it meant buying new versions of software. Now, since everything is online, OS upgrade has less of a major software haul effect.

Thus, what are your thoughts about how OS actually dont impact our digital experience anymore?
(Perhaps if I was a Windows user - I would have a different experience)

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I just read this on a blog about RainDrop - http://www.webmonkey.com/blog/Mozilla_s_Raindrop_Wants_to_Solve_Your_Communication_Woes

It is not a widget but a script and it is still in baby mode. So guess what, you will encounter bugs. I personally like Firefox - it rocks! But anyway, I do like how Firefox is taking this step to integrate the social media experience on your browser. Rather nifty. I will use it. What about you?

A friend of mine shared a warning yesterday about a hoax email being circulated about "Facebook needs you to re-enter your login" for security purposes and then it attacks your computer. This is really dangerous because we have so much on our computers and then it can spread non-stop in this never ending network of connections.

So what do you think about this? What precautions do you take to prevent this? First of all, I have a mac but in today's day, that is not even a protection anymore. Second, I have Norton Security suite but it does slow my computer at times. Third, I am very cautious with what I link to. I have added a plug-in to my Firefox to warn me of fishy sites.

With technology and actually with anything else, adoption of the new item or technology takes times and lots of effort.

With the adoption of social media at fast speed, I truly believe that now the laggards are embracing it. You are seeing older generations on Facebook. One important fact is that technology has become commonplace in society and it will not be obsolete, like my lovely BetaMax or Commodore 64.

So what do you think about this?

  • the first 2.5% of the adopters are the "innovators"
  • the next 13.5% of the adopters are the "early adopters"
  • the next 34% of the adopters are the "early majority"
  • the next 34% of the adopters are the "late majority"
  • the last 16% of the adopters are the "laggards"

Overall, the integration of these social media updates to SERP will definitely revolutionize the search experience. I do wonder how this will affect websites SEO?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

It could help if your site:
1. Testimonials
2. Good tagline
3. Good pictures of smiling couples

From a marketing aspect:
1. Improve your SEO
2. Optimize your SEM/PPC - drivers to the site
3. Do lots of offline tactics.

This can help increase traffic to your site.

Oh I did not know about Twitterberry. Thanks! Is there any other apps you recommend for the Blackberry aka Crackberry? I remember sending SMS to Twitter to follow people who spoke at the different conferences and then my cell will run out of juice quickly with all the non-stop beeps I would get.
