I had a feeling you had tried it but had to ask. The only other thing I can think of is something in the boot.ini. Do you have anything like Ultimate boot disk for windows or L-softs Active boot that you could boot from and check the ini files and registry?

rch1231 169 Posting Shark

Logically yes but I had to disable it to get it to work. It might be that windows is loading a drive that conflicts with the internal sata. It is just a suggestion if it does not work re-enable the controller.

I had a similar problem last week and i had to turn off the internal SATA controller in the BIOS to get it to work properly even though it was a sata HD.

or

Intel Xeon 3110 (Dual Core)
4 GB DDR Memory

Hello,

I would go with this system:

Intel Xeon 3110 (Dual Core)
4 GB DDR Memory
2 X 250 GB Hard Drive
1,500 GB Bandwidth

4GB of memory will be enough to keep Linux from having to use the swap partition and mirrored hard drives gives you redundancy for hard drive failures.

I just recently found out that I need a secure tunnel client in order to access an API, OK. Then while researching I find way too much conflicting info about what it is exactly. Could someone shed some light? Is it a subscription? Does it live in my PC or on a server? Why do I need it if I have a SSL via https?

Secure Shell or SSH is a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged using a secure channel between two networked devices. Used primarily on Linux and Unix based systems to access shell accounts, SSH was designed as a replacement for TELNET and other insecure remote shells, which sent information, notably passwords, in plaintext, leaving them open to interception. The encryption used by SSH provides confidentiality and integrity of data over an insecure network, such as the Internet. For additional information see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Shell

If you do not already have one on your home system pick download and install an SSH Client. Most people use PuTTY. PuTTY can be download from the link below:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

I use putty as my ssh client on windows and have my login for my Linux Web server set up to tunnel port 3306 for mysql. As far as the server is concerned I am connected locally to port 3306 and on my windows system I am also connected to the local port 3306.

Hello,

rch1231 169 Posting Shark

Hello,

1) I am not sure what you are asking on question 1 unless it is why to you set a primary key to Auto Increment. The answer is so the system will assign the next available integer to the field when the other fields are populated.
Auto Increment (Number/Currency only)
The AUTO INCREMENT attribute can be used to generate a unique identity for new rows. To start with the AUTO INCREMENT value other than 1, you can set that value in Options.

2) You don't have to assign a default value and the user will be forced to put in a value in when adding data because of the 'not null'

TEXT(tinytext, text, mediumtext and longtext) and BLOB(tinyblob, blob, mediumblob and longblob) data type cannot have DEFAULT values.

rch1231 169 Posting Shark

Glad it worked.

Yes there would but both systems would complain about a system being on the same IP. That is why I suggested that you use .100 for the IP. DHCP will always use the lowest IP's available first and as long as you are not connecting over 90 systems to your home network, it will probably never occur.

Since it is seeing the router properly now you can try going back to the get an IP address automatically setting and see if it still connects ok when it has been disconnected for a day or two. But you fon't have to change what you have now if you don't want to.

rch1231 169 Posting Shark

Check out qmail toaster. I use it on several servers that I manage and it is pretty secure. They have step by step instructions and shell scripts to do the work for you for several distributions (CentOS, Fedora, Debian, suse, etc.) and even talk you through the initial OS installation. In the process it installs Apache, PHP and MySQL and sets them up for you.

rch1231 169 Posting Shark

Hello,

Try giving it a fixed address in the upper part of your normal DHCP range. You need to check one of your other computers to see what range your router is using for DHCP. For example if it is a Linksys Router set the following for your network address on the wireless card:
IP: 192.168.1.100
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

DNS1: 192.168.1.1

Save the information and see if you connect. If it works then reset it for DHCP and see if you can connect without the fixed IP.

rch1231 169 Posting Shark

Add a switch or hub instead of a router. They are cheaper than a router or if you already have a router there may be an option to turn off the router and make it a dumb switch.
If not then you need to plug the line coming from the main router into the WAN port and then set DHCP on the upstairs router to a different IP range. Linksys normally uses 192.168.1.X and gives it's self the address of 192 168.1.1. You would need to set the upstairs router to use DHCP for the WAN and set the DHCP for it's LAN to something like 192.168.2.X . Hope that makes sense.

Hello,

Your problem is you need a driver for the RAID card for XP. Server 2003 has several built in but XP does not. Download one from the RAID card MFG's web site and put it on a floppy disk (yes a floppy, XP will only loook at a floppy for new drivers). Then when you are booting the XP CD you will see a message about pressing <F6> to load SCSI or other drivers. Press the <F6> key and follow the prompts to load the driver.

Good luck.

IF nothing else see what address is assigned to the ether net port on the windows system and give the xbox an address in the same range and if I remember correctly (no promise here) you make the gateway the IP of the ether net on the computer so it will route to it for the internet.

rch1231 169 Posting Shark

Correct. Did you look into internet connection sharing for the wireless port?

rch1231 169 Posting Shark

An old router should work if you plug both into the LAN ports and not the WAN. For the cross connect cable try this site:

To connect two ether net ports you either have to have a hub (or switch) or have a cross connect cable. Once you have that look into ICS (Internet connection sharing ) under windows for how to route the xbox through your wirerless.

If you are going to be using the system for a mail server then you need to make sure you add the TXT entry and also contact the company you got the IP address from and make sure that they set up a rDNS (reverse DNS entry) for your domain. Many mail servers (including mine) will not accept mail from an email server that does not have a matching rDNS entry.

Check to see if you have a domain DNS server designated and if it is working. From command prompt try:
nslookup google.com
you should get a sresposnse saying something like this:
C:\Users\Rodney>nslookup google.com
Server: dns-cac-lb-01.rr.com
Address: 209.18.47.61

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: google.com

74.125.47.104

the first part tells you what dns server you are asking for the ip address. if that does not work try this and I bet you get an answer:

nslookup google.com 4.2.2.2

That will query the primary nameserver on the web. If that works and the first one did not your problem is your do not have a valid DNS server set for the network card. Set it under the "Local Area Connection X" and the Properties for Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) at the bottom. If obtain IP automatically is set the set DNS to the same thing and OK out of the properties then reboot. If it is set differently send the data and I will try to give you an idea.

If you look at the settings you have the only location you point to the IP address is the frostcity.com one.
I when to get a snapshot for my server from godaddy and can't get to the totalDNS server right now they are doing maintenence...

It really depends on what you are setting the variable for. If it is for this session you can use something like this to set the variable TESTVAR equal to Hello and export it to your current shell:

[root@srvr3 ~]# TESTVAR="Hello"; export $TESTVAR
[root@srvr3 ~]# echo $TESTVAR

echo $TESTVAR will tell you if it is set correctly.
To set a variable for every time you log in you have to add it to your .bash_rc file in your home directory.

thnx for your interest in my question, my main goal is to when a hotel is inserted automatically the (that's why the trigger) the category.num_summer or category.num_winter is updated and added one,
so i'll know how many hotels are used in Summer and how many on Winter.
A trigger that count hotels based on the season when a hotel is inserted on table location.
I hope i made clear what i want this to do. thnx again...

OK. Then my suggestion would be this:

Add a field to the location table for season so that when the row is added to location they post if it in summer or winter. Then use the query below to find out how amny in summber and winter...

SELECT location.season as Season,
count(location.season) as 'Number per Season'
FROM
location
GROUP BY
location.season
ORDER BY
location.season ASC

and you should get a accurate count.

1. Check the CMOS jumper on the mother board and make sure it is not on the RESET or CLEAR CMOS setting. Normally jumpering pins 1 - 2 is for normal operation and 2 - 3 is to clear the CMOS which is where the BIOS settings are stored.
2. Change/Replace the CMOS battery. If it is dead the BIOS would reset to default when you poer the system off but will hold if you just do a reboot.

Based on what you have posted I would be willing to bet it is simply that the old drive was labeled as c: and there is already a drive c: (your new HD). At the bottom of Disk Manager you will see the physical drives and your old drive should show as Disk1. If you right click on it you get an option to change the drive letter (to f: for example) and you should then be able to see the drive under explorer.

Hello,

It might depend on the version but normally if you dump a specific database it does not include the USE statement.

mysqldump my_cool_db -u root -p > mysqldumpfile.sql

Or you could set up a script that will create individual dumps for databases who's names are listed in a file. For example if your file that contains the list of databases you want to create mysql dumps for is called:
/home/me/mydb.list
And you want the files to be created in /var/backups/databases. the script could look like:

#!/bin/bash
for x IN `cat /home/me/mydb.list `
do
mysqldump -u <USER> -p<PASSWORD> $x > /var/backups/database/$x
done

*******Notes..
1. The DO should be lower case do but it keeps showing as DO when I review my post.
2. You will need to use a real user name with access to the database in place of <USER> and <PASSWORD> and there is a space between -u and the user name but not between -p and the password.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

Hello,

The distribution you use depends on several things including your level of expertise in Linux. If you look at most of the major web hosting providers ( I have worked for a few over the past 10 years) for the really security conscious/long time Linux users they offer FreeBSD and Ubuntu. For people who know less about Linux and need something more user friendly, they offer CentOS or Fedora Core distributions of Red Hat. Fedora and CentOS are both pretty up to date with the latest Red Hat kernels and updates, they also look and feel the same but there are some minor differences. Personally I have found Fedora more orientated to desktop and laptop support with really good wireless and DHCP tools. While CentOS is geared to be more for the Server environment With static and/or multiple IP addresses and Virtual hosting.

Personally if it was me I would go get a utility containing the Linux find application. It will search a directory structure for files and/or directories that: Have a name like, were created x days ago, were last accessed x days ago, and then exec a command on that found item. Google 'man find' for a copy of the linux find command parameters. A zip file containing Unix utilities for windows can be found at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/unxutils/

And includes the man pages.

The reason I suggest this is I put together a script to do a similar thing in about 20 minutes with the linux utility find.exe that took a very decent Visual Basic Programmer over a day to get working (almost).
