PCI USB is an external PCI card that can be attached inside your computer for extra USB port. Usually you can find one with 4 extra USB port although it's not necessary to have so many USB port. You can find it at local computer store nearby for a cheap price. Usually it would cost about $10 only.

The same thing happen to my computer as well just recently but most flash drive were good anyway, only external HDD can't be detected for some reason. I also tried with Linux system but surely it won't detect my HDD.

Of course formatting RAW flash drive with 0 bytes will come out nothing anyway so it always fail if it won't able to read flash drives properly...

EDIT: Oh I was too stupid I didn't realize that you can actually detect your flash drive but it won't read properly. Okay, put on hold for buying new PCI USB for now and just stick with windows system. If windows was able to recognize it, then your USB port wasn't the problem one after all. It was Windows problem...

Ok next test, hope you can bear for more time as I try to solve the problem you're having now...

Reboot your computer and when BIOS screen appear (the one with many white texts), tap F8 continuously till it got into a menu for safe mode and other options. Enter Safe Mode. (You can attach a flash drive while it …

After seeing this. Probably your USB port does not work properly anymore even though it can probably detect your external HDD just fine.

This is the last test and if this fails, there'll be two possible options. Reformat or buy a PCI USB.

Have you actually try all USB ports? I don't want to miss any points that can be very important later on. If you have try this on front panel USB only all the time, this time plug your USB devices at the USB post behind the desktop.

Actually there is some problem between Home and Pro but not very much significant and USB problems aren't on the list. The only difference is Home is not as powerful as Pro...

If your screenshot was like that, then you need to reinstall drivers for your graphic card. First try to remove any additional graphic card and use the integrated graphic card and see if this still happens...

If not, put back your graphic card and update the driver for your graphic card.

If failed, then you might have a graphic card failure...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Well it's possible but I don't know how to do it... On flash drive, SD Card etc., yeah I can do that but not on HDD

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

checkdisk utilities won't delete your personal files, it just scan for any errors in Windows or partition and correct it automatically for you.

1- If the device work fine on other computer, then there's something on the problem computer that create such error.

2- Most USB devices have their own driver and they don't need to install anything. Plug and play means you just attach it, it'll install the drivers automatically and you can access it.

3- Well it shouldn't be a problem when those USB HDD were attached for a long time now and if they can connect then it also means your USB port is also fine. But for troubleshooting, might as well try to plug out all other USB peripherals so they won't get in the way during testing.

BQ- Like I said before, there could be something that blocked your access to newly attached USB devices like your Card Reader.

Apart from the 3 USB devices, do you have any other flash drive to test? I mean just borrow some friends flash drive and plug in to your problematic computer. If that also fail then there's something wrong with Windows...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Well might as well try to update the driver for wireless network. OR perhaps connect an ethernet cable to your desktop (which won't use your wireless connection) and check if you can get fine connection. Test with games as well for lag spikes and stuff...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Maybe they mistakenly locked your HDD when checking it. I'm not really sure how that happen as well but if try to format fails, might as well check the HDD for bad sector...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

dont do that...if u reset the bios to factory setting chances are there that bios doesnt recognize current os.....do that if u have recovery cd in hand

OP means he wants to recover his/her laptop just like the first time he bought it, not resetting BIOS. Usually format to factory setting won't even lay a problem to BIOS anyway...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

I've done some research for this.

Try downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program from HERE

Then run Update for the program and run Full Scan after update is done...

Actually never even play Ragnarok before. I use Ragnarok as example because of it's popularity before as MMORPG.

I have played MapleStory, Dragonica and Cosmic Break which most of it were hosted in Asia. I can't play other MMO's since my netbook couldn't handle that much requirement..

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

OR maybe your factory format partition wasn't exist to begin with.

You can disable any auto updates apps when they run at startup. Type msconfig and hit Enter. Click on Startup tab and there should be a selection of programs that run on startup. Disable any unused program but be sure not to uncheck programs from System32 folders...

You can disable automatic updates for windows as well and you can manually download it when you were on wifi.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Lets dismiss the flash drive because it already has plug n play drivers installed and just focus on finding the other two card readers.

If the card reader was already built-in on your computer, this would be easier...
Use Lexmark software installation disc and install just driver utilities or even a program for SD card reader to run properly..

For Dynex Mini it was also a plug n play when I try to find it so pretty much your card reader is fine at this point.

If solution above does not solve the problem, run 'chkdsk' utilities under run command.

Type this below on Command Prompt windows

chkdsk X: /f /x /r

Note that X is drive letter so change it to the drive letter where your USB peripherals are inserted.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Well make sure your AUTOEXEC.bat didn't go missing. There should be under Properties on either CD/DVD drives or Removable Drives. On Autorun tab, check 'prompt each time'. That should do...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Check your antivirus setting, they might actually block your autorun from running. If you're running Avira, more the reason...

You don't need to install it's original software...

Disable Java under 'msconfig'

To do this, type 'msconfig' under Run and it should open a new windows. Select startup tab and disable Java and any programs that not necessarily used but do not disable any 'system32' programs.

I do play DoTA once in a while but always got owned a lot when against really tough player... My favourite hero is Yurnero and item build is Battle Fury.

And... anyone here play any good MMO like Ragnarok etc.? I want to try other MMO to play other than Cosmic Break that I play a lot...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Well you could try to disable file sharing first. It might have something to do with the program itself not properly save the file before and now it can't even detected files that it supported. Move the faulty files to somewhere else which not in shared directory.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Okay you could look for automated driver updater software so you won't have to search each drivers for a long time but I prefer finding it manually.

If you can, try to search for the specific model/product code for each card reader you own and post it here so that I can help you with your search.

We'll go further if you got the model code. If you can't find it, then look inside 'Device Manager' and check for installed card readers. It's model and version should be in there.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

The only think I could think off is your driver not match with your new computer even everything is the same. Bad side of cloning is it'll not installed some drivers automatically which sometimes you have to update drivers for your new computers. Even if the previous one was updated, maybe new one can't use it completely...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Did you can boot with the HDD that shown blank line in BIOS? Also check your IDE cable as well. There should be 2 IDE slot so try each one for each HDD for confirmation. If that not work, use other IDE cable if it's available (you might need to salvage any old computer's cable and try it.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

You can open the RAM cover at the back of your laptop. Just need to unscrew a few screws and you'll see RAM slot and RAMs attach in it. Check the head and see if it's compatible...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Probably you forgot to update driver for your new computer. Maybe same specs but system and version inside may be different...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

run 'cmd' under 'run as administrator'
then type 'sfc /scannow' and it'll repair all windows related files. It may need an original Windows 7 Ultimate cd to run properly.

If you want to upgrade to newer version (XP pro in this case), might also do a fresh installation instead of upgrading. Unfortunately from my experience, your Home Premium product keys is invalid to be used for Professional so pretty much your upgrade failed.

From the above post, you've already choose to install XP fresh. If you do want to do a fresh install, select the partition which have the previous XP installation. Then it'll prompt to format. Choose 'Format as NTFS (Quick)'. Now it'll want to confirm your action. Press F to start the format and the installation will run by itself.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Did you try to update the cardreader drivers? It could be your cardreader is failing,

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Okay try this just to confirm your ethernet card that cause the problem. Simple open 'Device Manager' and disable network drivers, not uninstall. Then just use your computer if the problem still occurs. If this still happen, then something else that cause the problem.

Don't worry, we can do this slowly to pinpoint the problem.

So you were saying you can't connect to network properly with the HDD with the original OS but can connect with HDD that has been cloned. Did you try to diagnose your HDD for possible bad sector?

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

It could be driver problem or even virus... Test if this still happens under Safe Mode...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

If you choose to upgrade, you'll lose some apps that was not supported with 11.04 but instead it'll install new apps that can work with new upgraded version.

If you choose fresh install, you'll get whole new apps ready up for you.

But I heard a lot of complains when users switch to 11.04 but it's your decision.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

I see. You can send photos normally but not under 'forwarding' option. Well sorry, I can't help you out with this. Someone here might can help you with this...

So you were saying that either plugged in or not, it would still goes dark after several hours right?

First assumption for that would be probably the brightness for your laptop. This usually do if you run on battery. If you have set brightness to lowest by accident, set it to high again and see what happen

Second would be the screen itself has gone bad, as you have take your laptop to a repair shop for replacement. They are right actually. Your screen need to be replace even when you used it fine for a couple of hours. Dark screen probably better but don't wait till it fully black screen.

Well third would be probably your Windows configuration. You could put this as second but I prefer this as third assumption.

This is a DIY test so it would take some time to test this. First of all, download Puppy Linux's .iso from the link. Once done, open the .iso files. It'll automatically told you to insert a cd to your cd/dvd burner and burn it. Then insert the cd back and reboot your computer. After reboot, set your BIOS to run from CD first and Puppy Linux would do the rest to initialize.

After it finally boot with success, leave it for several hours. If it indeed goes dark even when you move the cursor, then it's confirm you have a bad screen and need a replacement.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Hi, i have the same problem with the same computer... Maybe you have resolved?

Thanks

create own thread please...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Did you can actually boot your laptop without battery plugged in?
If that works, then there's something wrong with your battery...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

You can download it from another computer and burn the downloaded .iso as CD. Then just insert the cd to the laptop cd/dvd drive and set BIOS to boot from it...

Just wondering. During the start up, did the BIOS shows up? (The one with gibberish text just before Windows logo shows up)

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Maybe it has something to do with some programs updating automatically in background which make force minimize on full screen programs like Anti Virus update etc.

Type this on Run > "msconfig" and tap Enter. Then click on startup tab and uncheck any unnecessary startup programs that you know except that run from system32 folders.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Simple explanation... Care to anybody to correct it if I'm wrong..

Memory or RAM is what your computer use to store temporary data and to run programs in live mode.

Pagefile on the other hand pretty much the same as RAM but instead, it use HDD free space to store temporary data. It also access much slower compare to RAM...

In my opinion, 256MB RAM is low for Win XP OS to operate normally since normally to run Windows XP normally, it need at least 512MB RAM so that other programs can initialize properly...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

That's definitely can't be read or copy/paste when operate under Windows. Windows need it to read files inside those folders or it will have problem reading it and cause unnecessary BSOD or windows error.

The only way to read or copy it is by using non-Windows OS like Linux, Mac, Ubuntu etc. They can bypass the file protection put by windows can do whatever you like to the files.

for non-windows OS, you can use live-cd version so you can run those OS without installing to your computer and copy those files under same OS...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

What kind of files you want to access? Did you try to check it under 'Task Manager' and see if it is indeed running?
