jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

I just can't see how you could do that with 500 different forums?
AC

Yea.. there's now way.. unless you hire a team to contribute on your behalf or deploy a bot to spam those forums.. but a) i can't imagine there would be much ROI on that endeavor and b) the posted content will severely lack quality and authenticity and ultimately damage your brand or get you blacklisted.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

A few irrelevant links won't hurt in the grand scheme of things; and really.. don't get caught up worrying about Google Toolbar PageRank. Instead focus on driving qualified and targeted traffic. And to do that.. you're gonna want to get cited from relevant resources.

I agree with Dani and jennypitts - Google Voice will provide you with an alternative # that will forward calls to your personal line(s) AS WELL AS act as a voice mail service.

Seems like a good concept. First, i think you need to get a lot of people, in general, to sign up for the program and establish a community. Then, i think you can encourage your users to meet up with others in their area and workout.

You can use social media tools to help spread the word about the program and maybe you can act as the organizer to get people to meet in person, but i would ultimately keep your site as the main hub for the community to engage other users and participate in discussions.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

Are all you guys going to comment on those blogs in order to get "backlinks?" Isn't that considered spam??

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

Seems pretty cool and has some features that Twitter comes up (literally) short on.. but do we really need another social networking tool? Facebook and Twitter work just fine for me... I have to say.. i'm a little apprehensive :-\

Everyone said that no follow links has no benefit from google but i notice that some of my backlinks come from no follow links.

Yep - i have noticed this as well. Rather a strange phenomenon. Goes to show that the SE's still might be counting those links for something. Maybe just as a simple citation?

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

Try looking into "Survey Monkey." I've heard good things.

I have a hard time with this as well. I know there are lots of password managers that can keep track for you but i just choose to save my info using Firefox. You can even set a master password that once entered, you will automatically be able to pull previously saved info for the duration of your Firefox session.

Has anyone tried this service? I am considering buying the deluxe package for a year but fear that it might just do things I can do myself.

Haven't tried the service but i'd find out exactly what they claim to do before opening your wallet. Chances are, you will be able to do it yourself.

Let us know what you find and/or decide!

The Snickers ad was great. So was the one for Doritos. And Google had a rather clever ad. All 3 were great for branding.

Hello! Anybody would like to recommend me the list of social networking sites that are based in Australia? Just like .com.au . I want to see my pages in the pages in Australia when i search in search engine like google.com.au. :icon_cheesygrin: Thanks!

Don't know about any .AU social networking sites but I'm sure there are a bunch of forum communities you can join, contribute and establish yourself in.

I just wonder how to make money with domain parking? I am noob and I want to learn more things.

In general, i wouldn't expect to make much money from parked domains. It's just another rev sharing model greatly dependent on external factors - like type in traffic.

How can be press release sites increase traffic for website..
Please tell me ???

Thanks

A press release is a formal announcement about a new product or service that has been launched by a company - or perhaps even a new hire or addition to a company. Really, its any news that a company wants to make public... so they create a press release, publish it on one of these press release portals (or even on their own site). Depending on how authoritative the portal or site is, Google and other search engines will pick up on this news and quickly display it in their web or News search results. That's were the traffic comes in...

I just wanted to know if copied content content is really a serious issue in deciding pagerank?
Many sites with pr 3+ are found to have copied content. Even sites like digg , stumble upon are in a way publishing copied content from other blogs ( i know that though other users itself are submitting their sites there )

Google Toolbar PageRank is Googles measurement of "relative importance." Overall, copied content will not automatically diminish a sites PageRank but it certainly doesn't help. Instead i think it does more damage to how well a site ranks in the search engine results pages (SERPs).

Sites like digg and stumbleupon aren't really copying content. Users may submit a snippet of copied content but ultimately the site links over to the actual published article (at least in most cases). They are more community driven news aggregators than content publishers.

Also one more thing : if a site with higher pagerank publishes a content from a site with lower pr , according to google who is having the 'copied content' ? i know that google will be displaying the site with higher pagerank, higher in search results !

Not necessarily. Google is pretty good at distinguishing which site published the content first... and i'm sure if you looked close enough, you will find that PageRank really has no bearing on how well your site ranks. It's more about relevancy, quality and freshness of content, and optimized site components.

Thanks for putting it into perspective and sorry to hear you are having a rough go at it. Based on your accounts, it *does sound like CC is playing favorites. Meanwhile you were one of their advertisers! You would think they would show a little professional courtesy!

It could very well be that the owner or moderator is in business with Bonnie and Clyde.. errr.. Rudy and Rosie.. or perhaps Rudy and Rosie are bribing the forum moderators to keep their stuff heavily talked about and their competitors buried. Either way you are obviously in a tough spot. You can try complaining to the person above the port manager (if you haven't done so already) but if you do, go in armed with some evidence. Take screenshots of genuine posts by your clients that were deleted and present them to a manager or exec over at CC.

Otherwise, i guess your stuck playing their game but that might not be so difficult. Maybe i'm just oblivious but you can play the role of having "great public relations." You can do some actual Press Releases on the cheap. Maybe announce that you are giving away a free cruise - or you gave away a free cruise and throw in a quote from one of you friends about how great it was. Stir the pot a little. Make some waves in the industry. Do stuff to help increase public perception (on the web). No reason you can't also setup a …

I have site. I use high PR links. if i use low PR links so any effect on my site. and it get incoming link.

Sure! Low PR links from a relevant and "authoritative" resource is much better for your site than high PR links from non-relevant resources.

All in all though.. i wouldn't put much weight in Google Toolbar PR. It has no bearing on how your site will rank in the search results pages. It really boils down to quality of content, optimized on-site components, and relevancy.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

Search engines by design send out robots to crawl and save snippets of all information on the internet. They get from one destination to another by following links.

To "put your website in all searching engines" all you have to do is publish some unique content and earn a couple of links. Alternatively, you can submit your website directly to Google or Bing. Just search for 'submit to Google' and so on..

Haha! funny you mentioned that. When the iPad was launched, my initial thoughts were that it is a glorified PalmPilot. I remember my friend got one and the 'cool factor' immediately wore off when we realized all it did was store contact info, keep a calendar and allow you to write digital notes.

Granted the iPad is much more robust but i still think it is just a bigger iPod Touch.

(I don't like the idea of selling your cookie data though. I would argue that this is highly unethical.)

I hear ya and for the most part agree.. but let me clarify. It is not the selling of personal data, more like usage data or "intent data." Ad networks are willing to buy this data so they can display more relevant ads the next time you (or someone with similar inent) stumble across their ad publishers.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

If people are discussing your competitors, then you are advertising in the right place, no?? I mean - you want to get in front of your target audience, right? What better place than where your competitors are being discussed? Right there; front and center is YOUR BUSINESS - the alternative for what is being discussed. You're telling me you were not successful in running those banner ads? If not, perhaps a change to the ad message or call to action is in need, because that sounds like prime real estate.

Ultimately, keep in mind that Anyone can post Anything in a discussion forum. As an Advertiser, you can't control what is being discussed. Only the Moderators can (like you said). But the Moderators of Cruise Critic are not going to stop people from discussing your competitors, just because you are advertising with them. That destroys the overall concept of "open discussion" and "community." For example, if DaniWeb were to ban all discussion of Apple just because Microsoft is an advertiser, the Apple lovers would feel neglected and eventually abandon DaniWeb. This would bring down the overall traffic and value of DaniWeb. More people would leave, prompting the advertisers to leave and all of a sudden DaniWeb is kaput.

I believe the Cruise Critic moderators and the webmaster for my competition are in league with each other. It sure appears that way.

Take a look at this thread and tell me what you think :

This (bollywoodstarsactressnews.blogspot.com) is my blog. i need more back link at my blog. pls know me how to create back link.

The best way to get citations to your blog or website is to offer unique can compelling information. In other words, ask yourself, what does the blog offer that is unique and original. Do you take a certain slant. Do you provoke controversy?

Mix it up a little. Try to get people interacting on your blog but ultimately provide them with a quality experience.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

Hi Kevin - thanks for posting and keep on staying positive. There is always room for competition and seeing as you already have a foot hole in the industry, it sounds like you can still turn things around.

Have you thought about submitting your local business info to various business directories like yelp, yellowpages, local.yahoo.com, google maps - or mexican specific business directories with similar offerings? You can setup some basic business profile pages in most of these directories for free. There are also some cost effective, paid listing options where you get a link to your site and some other good features that will help promotion your biz. Either way (free or paid) - creating these profile pages allows for more exposure and "inroads" to your business. It will get your phone # and address out there - which will help drive more referrals.

You can also consider advertising in places other than Cruise Critic. There has to be other places to effectively market and brand your business. At the very least, look for more ways to maximize Google AdWords. Only bid on highly targeted keyword phrases. Another good tip is to bid on common misspellings of "Acapulco." Misspelled keywords are comparatively Much cheaper to bid on. Also think about Geo-targeting your ads to a specific audience. For example, if you know that you typically only get visitors from a certain region of the world - perhaps you would only want to market to that …

Is really blog commenting and forum posting really helps increase your site traffic? how? i need to know more facts about that.. ^_^

For the most part, commenting on blogs and posting in forums will NOT send you huge amounts of traffic. Won't even send you a "good" amount. Nor will it greatly impact your organic rankings (SEO).

The best long term strategy for blog commenting and forum posting, is to establish yourself in the industry or market. Let people know.. "hey! i'm here, willing to play, and most importantly have something worthwhile to contribute." And really.. that's all you should do it for.. to contribute. No blogger or forum owner wants people commenting/posting solely for personal gain or benefit. Think about it.. would you want people contributing fluff info - just so they can obtain a few links or some traffic?? What value does that bring to your website?

Just say No to comment and sig spamming. It gets us all nowhere and quite frankly, the search engines (aka Google/Bing) already know to ignore sig and comment links. Big waste of time IMO.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

To keep bounce rate in check (50% or below is ideal), you need to optimize your landing page. After seeing your index page, you need to add more relevant content and also minimize the advertisements on the page....

This is good advice. *thumbs up* :)
There's a flip side to this coin though.. depending on your site, a high bounce rate could mean that your visitors are immediately finding the information they are seeking (like a telephone # or street address) and then leave the site right away.

If that is the case, then consider adding more relevant ads (Google AdSense if you need something quick and easy). There are also ways to monetize your exit traffic. For example, there are companies out there that provide you with some fancy code that will cookie your visitors and collect anonymous data ("in a privacy friendly way"). That data is then sold in an open exchange and you get paid. Look into BlueKai (i believe they are industry leaders for such ventures).

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

I find that using Yahoo Stores will NOT negatively impact your SEO. I have also seen yahoo stores rank extremely well in the SERPs.

Bottom line.. as long as you can control the meta tags and on-site content, and conform to universally accepted web standards, you will be able to successfully optimize each page for the search engines.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

I like all of your steps except #4. You just have to becareful of which sites you trade your links. These sites must have related contents and have good PageRank.

i'm in this camp.. why exchange links with competitors or similar sites that most likely will not benefit your users? If you are looking for relevant citations, it seems better to implement some basic online marketing strategies, maybe launch some press releases, or get the word out by going above and beyond for your customers and users.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

So friend tell me about some unique category ?

If i was looking to offer a unique discussion forum, i would look for where there is a need. Is there something that people do not know a lot about? Or perhaps there is something that is popular and there is no where to get free advice or help. If so, and you have the knowledge and time to devote to the offering, then fill that void and do your best to create a loyal and active community.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

I would ignore that SEO tool. As long as your keywords are used naturally in grammatically correct fashion, you should be fine. With the Alt tags, try being more literate. Paint the picture with words. For example, "The Colosseum in Rome."

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

I have around 20 Articles written. When I tried to spin the article through a software, I am not at all satisfied with the result; even the meanings changed sometimes. It is not as good as manual writing. Hence, I have decided to rewrite the articles myself. Hope I could produce better articles. But my worry is that I could rewrite each article around 5 to 6 reproductions only.

My question here is whether I could submit the same article to 5 Article Directories so that I could submit an article to at least 30 Article Directories. Whether submitting the same 5 artciles (on one subject) could be considered as spam..

Hi Allison - thank you for posting. It seems to me that submitting the same article to 5 different directories is fine. However, I wonder if it is better to just host the article on your own domain and try to promote it?

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

Offering such general topics for discussion may not be a good start - as there are already thousands of other forums discussing the same thing. Instead, try offering something unique and compelling. Something that will motivate user participation.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

If you are familiar with re-targeting and cookies, let me know. I wonder if it helps increase click through rate.

Twitter is a social network. If you want to earn more followers, you .. have to network. Follow the people you want to follow you. Try to communicate with them using "@." ReTweet (RT) their message. Post engaging and thoughtful content for your existing followers and they will respond and/or retweet your thoughts to their followers. And believe it or not, an interesting or attractive profile pic helps.

In addition to what InsightsDigital reference, Mashable has a pretty good twitter guidebook.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

After reading all this I have a conflict in my mind. I checked my google webmaster account to see the list of back links there I sea few links which google crawled and when I checked those links they were with NO FOLLOW attribute. Then why google crawled them ?

Google does not show all backlinks pointing to a website. If you want to learn whether or not Google crawled your directory listing, copy a snippet of text from the listing description (hopefully it is unique), paste it into the Google search box, throw some quotes around the snippet and [Search]. If you see your listing in the search results, then it was crawled, indexed and counted as a citation.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

Consider the # and type of subscribers.

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

I wouldn't necessarily say that the iPad appears to be a better reader than the Kindle. The kindle is designed solely to be a reader.. right down to the "electronic-paper" display. Reading for an extended period of time on Apples iPad may or may not be as pleasing to the eye... or may not even be possible (depending on battery life - which is currently documented at about 10 hours).

Furthermore, the Kindle currently has WAY more e-books available for download than what is offered by iBooks (which are only available in the US).

Ultimately, I am really confused as to why anyone would buy an iPad?? What's the main functionality? When compared to a netbook, it seems limited and over priced. I mean $500 for a 16GB tablet that you have to use two fingers to type on? Am I missing something?

jay 11 8 The Dude Abides Team Colleague

What is inbound link? the link from another website to my website? ...

Right.. an "inbound link" is a link pointing to your website.

I'm amazed at the amount of addiction to facebook and twitter. I use them, but I don't completely understand the obsession with them.

in general, a social network is only as good as its users. If there are people, organizations, businesses, or items you are interested in, then you can use these social networks to remain connected with those people or entities. If you are content with not being so connected (and many people are) then yes.. i can see not having much of an interest in these networks and not buying into the hype. :)
