caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Upon booting my XPS m1710 keeps asking for a system or administrator password, which I don't have. The service tag on the machine is HVVVZ2J. Dell support is reluctant to give me a master password because the person I bought the laptop from is not to be found in their database (they tell me). Can anyone help me please?
Many thanks in advance

the person you bought it from must have the password

Setting registry is very important for drive cleanup and hard disk cleanup

are they ,what setting are you referring to .
most registry editors are the most dangerous software tools know to computers and are not necessary for the average user

you might find some info in this link

ok ,now i get it ,try this, go to mycomputer and right click on the cd rom icon go/ properties /auto play ,an choose media type from the drop down/check the radio button for what you want each type of media to do .

if you intentionally used a third party program to stop this action ,you may need to use it to change it back

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Hello.
I am not using any virtual pc because of that windows genuine update...

sorry we can't offer help ,if you don't have genuine windows installed

"Edit This Bookmark" box that I am talking about. near the top of that page.

if you double click on the yellow star you should see this .to edit just type in a new name ,but i guess you don't see it like this correct

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

hi, i ill assume because you are in the xp /2000 forum, also you mention xp in your post , ,you are using xp, this fixit.exe file from Microsoft will repair the setting automatically .

of all the forums i go on ,i think this is the only one where any poster old or new can post to the spyware removal forum ,most others you have to part of the removal team ,maybe something to look at here to, just an opinion

Am using 3.6 on my Vista machine, but the problem is there too.
Seems as if XMarks might have made a change.
If they did it doesn't really work.

not sure but this site might help you figure out how to edit book mark ,it sure answered the howto for me . i looked and looked in firefox for a edit button but couldn't find it until i read on this site ,now i know what that yellow star [it might be white until you click on it ]is for at the end of the address bar.lol
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-bookmarks

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

maybe 4 is the problem! try going back to 3.6 and see if it works .

Hi,

I use dual boot system. It is very time consuming to restart my computer every time I have to change to another OS. So was curious if there is a way to change OS in dual boot systems without having to restart the system. Thanks.

Love Is.....

no,one os needs to be shut down first
3rd party program will only shut os down faster ,other os will load the same as now .

with windows 7 pro, enterprise or ultimate versions only . you can run winxp mode and switch between the 2 with out a restart ,you can even copy and paste between the 2

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague
caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Thanks.
Does that matter?

no,should be fine

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

you can right click the icon and delete it from all programs ,no need to worry about it in media player

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

add more ram to you computer

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

thank you caperjack very much for prompt reply, appreciate it. As I mentioned in my last post I am not working currently on my clients laptop (but I will tommorow) but I will do that.

I have one more quick question: after I uncheck 'Automatically restart' checkbox I assume I assume lapotop will not restart anymore and I can work normaly again but what did I solve with that and is this a hardware or software failure and why did it happened?

no it will not fix the problem ,what it might do instead is give you a bsod error [blue screen of death ] usually cause by a device error/conflict /corrupt driver.if it doesn't then it may well just be over heating,,maybe that's why it need to sit for a bit to cool down enough to restart, google "bsod" for more info

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

sorry using win7 and was posting from memory sort of.
uncheck 'Automatically restart '

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

right click on mycomputer /go properties /advanced/startup and recovery /system failure /uncheck to shutdown .

this should show a blue screen error

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

open e/ and see if it will let you delete the folders one at a time, and don't worry about the warning

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

looks like some windows installed file ,now post a image of the content of c:\ drive

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

sounds like windows is installed on the e:/ partition and all programs are install on c:\ maybe.
go to computer /open the e:\ drive, so it shows the folders/files on it ,using the snipit tool in all programs/accessories ,create a image of the folder, save it to your desktop and then upload it here[click on use advanced editor ,managed attachments, to upload the saved image ] .like this one .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

have you tried a basic mouse and keyboard on the win7 machine ,id so do you get the same results when scrolling

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

giving its a laptop the e:\ partition was likely for the Dell recovery[is for a 3 non dell laptops in my house ] and should not have been used for data storage.
go start click on ,computer ,right click on e:/ try a format from there ,if it does then try disk management

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

find the prefetch folder and delete its content ,reboot the computer .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Thanks, but I already uninstalled it before reading your post. Now, task manager works back to normal.

i was going to suggest that ,good luck

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Hi Can you go into safe mode? if not try your installation disk,(make a restore disk if possible if you do not have the original disks. if it is vista it has a repair option

last poster who asked for help in this thread was over 7 yrs ago ,check the dates

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

and where will i get that driver?

as azmmy posted, it would be on your motherboard install/driver disk if you still have it .
is you computer a band name like Dell or Compaq ect ect .if so what make and model # is it id it a custom build[no-name] what is make and model of the motherboard

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

sounds like ou need to install sound drivers for your sound device addin card or onboard device

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i know this is a old thread for the most part but there is a generic usb device driver for win98 first edition and SE should work for most device ,i used it a lot a few yrs ago .
http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

do you use the bluetooth ,if not ,just finish the prompt for drivers let it search the computer say ok ,don't cancel it ,then it will stop the prompt at least

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

didn't come across a definitive answer ,seems speed stepping is a common name for the function with an intel cpu .also seems that disabling it will result in it running at a lower speed and not the higher one,not sure about that ,but i think left alone the cpu will spike when needed, mine does, maybe the music software isn't written well enought to take advantage of his 4 cores,a lot of software isn't !!

my hp/compag laptops bios a virtulisation setting for running multiple virtual machines .,but recommended no to run it all the time ,i set to enable ,and ram win7 and xp mode ,cpu still jumped from 950 -1900 mhz when doing things in both at the same time .
