query: how much could i speed up my system if i partitioned the 500gb hard drive into two or three segments? worth it?
not sure but i dough it would speed it up at all ,no more that a regular disk defrag wouldn't do

hi,doing a quick not intense look, i cant find on the asus or a few reviews sites site where it says you board it ddr3 compatible
I am using an older version of MS Office not 2010.
hi,then its not oulook 10
i don't have xp installed right not but i think if you go to add and remove programs and lick on office it will give the option to do a repair try that first
3-4 min is not a long wait for safe mode to come up ,wait a little longer ,
also a good free 3rd party defrag is defraggler ,by the makers of ccleaner another great free program ..you could try it and then check win defrag for same message after !
I'm leaving Daniweb.
no,no please don't go ,youve been her so long lol,

My Toshiba XP Laptop no longer lights up.
Info is there and is working, but almost impossible to see.
Got it working a few times by quickly opening and shutting the lid, but no longer works.
Anyone know what the problem is or what it should cost.
I am in Dublin.
Thanks.
sounds like the lcd monitor is gone ,or back lite if it has one ,reall you need to take or send it for repair ,hard to tell from here what it really is ,have you tried hooking it to a PC monitor
BIOS battery died had to re install windows xp home.
all you had to do was install new battery and set bios defaults and fix the time /date ! never heard of having to reinstall windows for that reason.

hi ,sounds like you need to troubleshoot the card reader on the computer ,i would uninstall the reader and reinstall it first ,do this via the device manager .
can anyone help, can i copy pictures off my pc to a sd card, and if so how?:(
hi, if you don't have one or the computer dosn't have one built in you need a USB cardreader to plug the sd card into ,and you simply copy /past or drag and drop the picture to the sd card ,you can do all this in windows explorer [or mycomputer ]
I have a 4 GB Transcend pen drive.
I want to install the OS windows XP in the hard disk.
In BIOS settings i set to first boot from usb.
I want to use my pendrive to install XP.

Sure it makes sense and thanks to you ^^
now it does .good luck
"saying something about memory dump I believe"
the most important part of troubleshooting you problem was all the numbers and error message on the bsod ,not the memory dump.
you harddrive may have died if the bios no longer sees it ,
I will reformat my computer and my problem is I do not know how to install the drivers necessary for my hardware. How will I know what driver will I install? Please guide me. Thank you.
hi, start with the motherboard cd that you should have gottin when you bought your computer ,you reall should have checked device manger before you reloaded for names and model of the devices you were using ,that's assuming your computer was working before you formated , also if you have no cd ,get this program [ http://www.filehippo.com/download_sandra_lite/download/cf21dd500c085e40c7dfd94275a6e6eb/ ]and run it it will tell you what devices[and there model numbers ] you have and then you can go to manufacturers web sites for necessary drivers
I've seen so many warnings about registry fix programs that I'm scared to use one.
I use ccleaner every time I sign off the Internet. Do I need a registry fixer? And can anyone guarantee one that works without causing harm? I know there are some advertised by Google but I've heard they only point out the errors and you have to pay to get them deleted. Something there sounds fishy to me.
i don't use registry fix program because of what you say ,the ones mention in this thread are just registry cleaner a little different me thinks
i use ccleaner registry cleaner for a few yrs now on my computer and one i work on belong to others with no ill effect, not sure if its actually helping
Hey there I have a Toshiba M305 s49052 and I want to change the OS to XP due to a virus. This virus is blocking my net access. The problem that I am having is that when I run the Windows xp OS disc, I get a stop error after the disc loads all the funny stuff and is heading to the section where I would format the hard drive. Any suggestions?
so you are posting in the Vista forum ,so i will assume you have vista and are changing back to xp, the laptop is fairly new so i will also assume your problem is SATA harddrive problem ,xp does not have sata drivers in it by default so you would need to create a new xp install disk slipstreaming the SATA drivers into [good program to use is nlite] you need to acquire the driver from Toshiba .also there might be a setting in the laptops BIOS to change a setting from sata mode to ata mode not sure where in there but give a look for it ,,it might be easier to either just to reinstall Vista or go to our spyware ,virues and other nasties section to get help removing the virus
Hello
I have been given 3 rar files of win 7 beta, I have a license number to register it. However I am unable to open it into a bootable form. Does anyone have any ideas how to open this please?
hi, a rar file is a compressed file format so you first have to unzip the files ,then burn the unziped files to dvd , look on the net for a program called winrar to unzip them
I used to store software on!!!
No,if you mean you installed the programs on to this drive ,yes if you mean you just used it for storage of the software
the big chain store would be my only source. Not sure that's a good idea.
if the model is a good one the price is right big box store are ok, I guess
when inside the computer case make sure to un-plug it from the wall power source [should have mention this before ]
i suggest you remove hard drive and taking it with you when you go to buy one ,only 4 screws + the cables to do so ,usually 2 screws on either side ,you will need to remove other side of the case to get at the other 2 , or just take the tower to comp repair shop and have one installed .
it sounds like it a ATA 160 gig, i think the info is on that big sticker on the front of the tower
I kept getting a message that said my virtual memory was low after about 2 hours after I attached the usb.?
virtual memory is setup by windows on the hardrive for the cpu to use when all the ram memory is being used ,virtuall memory is slower than Ram so for best results you really don't want to get into useing virtuall memory ,so increasing the amount of ram is best fix for this error ,
,the error message can be stopped by increasing the size of the virtual memory windows uses ,windows usually set this itself, but the size can be increased manually ,it may also indicate the hardrive is getting full
Now's where it's going to get tricky. I can make them work, but I don't know what makes them work.
I've never opened a computer in my life. But I'm a willing learner. Is there a diagram here somewhere or is it pretty simple? I've seen it done and know it is, I'm just a bit timid.
I did unplug everything from the computer tonight and try to reboot and I also unplugged it from the wall and rebooted.
I knew I shouldn't have bought that usb when I did it. Dumb move. I've already trashed it.
opening is easy should be 2 screws on the right hand side when looking from the back and side cover should just slide off with a bull towards the back ,all are different of course !
did you have any problem with the usb device when you first installed it .
open side case
http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/remove-case-covers.htm
I took everything extra off of it first thing. Just left keyboard and mouse. I've always kept it pretty dust free but I'll do as you suggest, too.
The fans sound as though they are turning really well, and I haven't noticed any difference in noise or pitch.
Could the usb have caused any problems? It's a new acquisition and I (unwisely, I'm sure) didn't spend much on it and it's from overseas. It's only been on a week.
I just have a horrible feeling the hard drive is gone and I don't understand how. It was running so well after the restore.
Thank you for your advice.
ok, open box and unplug hard drive ,see if it goes past the bios screen to another message like missing OS, also remove keyboard and mouse ,they can cause it to lock up,
not sure if usb device caused it ,shouldn't ,
notice you buy cheap ,[ overseas usb, E-machine ]cheap always leads to problems in my opinion ,
Hi, first thing i would do is open the box ,and make sure all fans and
heat sync's are clear of dust ! also remove the external harddrive and the new usb hub and try booting
hi,try hitting f8 on boot up and login to safe mode ,see if it will let you into admin acct there ,then go to users in control panel and create a new user acct with admin rites
Knoppix is free!
no disk will be of use to us if we don't know how to use them!
on this site is doesn't look to hard to use the one you have ,you would concern yourself with the "Partition, Format and Clean up Your Hard Drive" section
http://www.spotmau.com/products/package/full.htm
agree with above post .!
also where ever you found this out [apparently you can get it to 3.6 without breaking a sweat] should be able to help you overclock yours .one would think.
also check out www.overclockers.com
or you could get the appropriate file from www.bootdisk.com and use Nero to create a bootable disk copying the files to it in the process
Advanced memory controller supports PC2100 DDR266 technology up to 2gig ,so that would mean you could add 2x1024
from this site !
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=KM2M_Combo-L
just double click on the area above the ,image name --pid --user name--- it will open the tool bar
this might help "system file checker" , go to start /run/ type in SFC /scannow ,note there is a space between the C and the /, you will likely need the windows cd in to replace the missing or corrupt system files
What was the point in replying to my question?
If you have worked in the business world for a legitimate length of time, you would know the reality is that rules are broken all the time. Such is the case with my laptop, complete with software.
I do not want your 'suggestion' thank you, it offers me no help to my problem
Let me offer you a suggestion and you will understand why I am replying to you in this way. Here is my suggestion: If you are not going to offer help in your replies, then don't reply.
Jupiter 2 is correct ,and we here at Daniweb can't offer you any help because its against the rules of this forum as we do not know they gave it to you, you could have stole it for all we know ,so we will error on the side of caution ,and your prissy attitude !lol
my suggestion to you would be ask you work IT department for the info you need or get one of them to do it for you
go to mycomputer ,right click on desired drive and chose properties ,then tools , error checking ,click on fix now check the empty boxes ,it should not prompt to restart computer ,if does just check off one option at a time
Thanks again to Caperjack for saying with me on this problem to the end. He was great!
Murray
your welcome ! good luck

Is there anyone here know how to crack a license key of WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2? Guys teach me. I want a license operaring system so that I can install a windows defender and I can update it regularly. Thanks for those who can help.

your welcome ,
Hi i recently got a new case and it has blue lights on it . My mum wants to know if thats going to cost her money in power and electricity . i think they are led lights and they dont cost much right. Anyone know???
you are correct ,tell mum not to worry, she uses more electricity using here electric eyebrow hair plucker, lol
hi,not sure of the cause ,but has nothing to do with the ntfs format you chose ,as that was the correct one to use!
you could add some more ram for sure ,but it should still be booting fast with the one gig .
are there any add in pci card that you could remove and try a boot with out them ,like and modem or network, or sound card ,or is everything built into the mother board
Are you using a USB or PS/2 keyboard
its a corrupt windows install i think ,most likely cause is virus/trojan .
no a new harddrive is not the answer ,why you upped the resolution on a computer already having problems baffles me!
,unplug tower , open the tower and remove all addin cards like modems and nic card ,sound if any ,if you have unboard video and a addin video card ,remove the card and use the unboard video ,
