I third that idea ... you'll save a lot of headaches by reformatting and doing a clean install of Windows 2000.

Hey all you guys and gals! I was just checking up on my site stats and it looks like we average about 3,000 hits per day. Now, remember, these are forums, afterall, so most people do visit a few pages per visit. So it comes out to about 300 unique …

This site, for example, is located at http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums - However, it can also be accessed via its domain name www.techtalkforums.com If someone links to www.techtalkforums.com, and is forwarded server-side over to daniweb.com, which domain name would get the PR increase? I know that PR is on a page-by-page basis, and …

Does it ever ask you where you want the file saved to? Do you ever use the browse button to select a place? Does it bring up the "save file as" dialog box? I'm going to move this thread to our Internet Explorer subforum :)

Diskeeper, a more complete version of the Windows 2000/XP disk defragmenter, does this as well. Microsoft actually licensed a lite version of Diskeeper for inclusion in the OS.

CPUs (processors) don't contain any built-in GPUs (graphics processor units). Sometimes, graphics cards come integrated in your computer's motherboard, but not in the processor. An Intel Pentium 4 is a processor (or CPU) and therefore doesn't have a built-in video card, just like other CPUs from AMD. However, Intel also …

Defragment your hard drive regularly. Diskeeper is a great program if you want to invest. It allows you to defragment your boot-up files.

Without taking such a close look at this code, tell us the following: What exactly goes wrong? What does it print/not print that it's supposed to/not supposed to do? I tried compiling via gcc and it spit out like 100 syntax errors. I haven't taken a close look at it …

It might be a firewall or proxy server that's preventing the images from coming through on the first try. Are you using a firewall such as Norton Personal Firewall or McAffee firewall?

This is not an answer at all but I just thought I'd mention it anyways. I used to run RedHat and just about everything - including Mozilla - was a yucky blocky font. What fixed it for me was installing Ximian Desktop which actually boasts special smooth fonts.

Go into the control panel. And then to User Accounts. See if there is a "family.family" account. If so, change the username to simply "family". Another thing to try is to go into the control panel. Click Administrative Tools. Then go to Computer Management. In the left frame, click where …

OK, being the admin around these parts, here is my comment: Computer-related debates are okay so long as they don't turn to cursing and name-calling. However, if there is already a Linux vs Windows thread, just keep replying to it instead of starting 5000 threads all related to the same …

Make sure that the software is G5 compatible. Also, if you're using Panther, make sure it's Panther compatible. This incompatibility has caused a lot of glitches in some mac software lately.

I have never encountered this problem. I would run Disk Utility from one of the setup disks and check for errors on your startup disk. If that doesn't work, make sure the install disks aren't scratched at all and then go ahead and reinstall. :(

I'm not sure about McAfee, but Norton AntiVirus is a bootable CD. You can set the computer's CMOS setup up to boot from the CD. Then, pop the cd in the drive and restart the computer. It will perform a scan from DOS. Unfortunately, with no internet connection, newer viruses …

Windows XP Powertoy TweakUI (which can be downloaded from Microsoft's website) has a rebuild feature that lets you rebuild icons. However, I don't think it fixes bad associations. I think you need a registry fixer-upper.

The only thing I can think of is *gasp* a reformat. In all honesty, if this is a mission-critical computer, one wouldn't want someone to be able to override an Admin's security. Apple can't provide easy ways of overriding security. :( Not that I know of at least. Do you …
