Are you using WEP? If so then you may need to retype your wireless passkey. It just looks like your router is refusing to assign a DHCP address and Windows is going APIP on you. Try disabling wireless security on your router temporarily.

smartdrv is an ms-dos command. What you could do depending on how big your hd is, would be to copy the entire xp disc onto a partition. To do this you would need a bootable floppy with the cd/DVD-rom driver on it along with another msdos command called fdisk. the …

You need to configure Port Isolation. http://www.h3c.com/portal/Products___Solutions/Technology/LAN/Technology_Introduction/200701/195584_57_0.htm That website should help you get the basics. I know that most Cisco managed switches allow port isolation along with Dell, McData/Brocade. You'll probably also find it available on SUN, IBM & HP but I've never configured these brands in a production environment.

If I was your domain admin I would just restore from the latest backups. However I understand your pain. You may be able to edit the registry or at the very least restore a previous registry version by trying UBCD. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html Let us know how you get on.

Nope your friend is wrong or you mis-understood them. No damage is done but there is an adaptive feature of wireless network equipment that can vary signal strength based on environmental conditions. usually these adaptive changes are temporary and don't have any long lasting effects.
