I suggested FF because it's also built on Mozilla and I'm almost positive that I've seen the issue your having(and the workaround I suggested) in the knowledge base or on Bugzilla.

Try downloading and installing Firefox as the default browser. Then launch Seamonkey and set it as default again.
Check Tools>Options; Advanced tab; click Config Editor.. button; filter for 'sound' and ensure that mail.biff.play_sound is 'false'.
If so, my guess is that your profile is corrupt. Maybe try backing it up (browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\ on Windows XP/2000 or C:\users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\ on Windows Vista) ; you could simply move the profile (make sure Thunderbird is closed) and on the next launch when a profile is not found a new one is created and you can try a fresh start.
I disable them all(except antivirus) and if I notice that any would be useful I re-enable them. Most just load part of the program to speed up its launch when you do use it.
I too have had similar problems; Flash player seemed to be the culprit in my case. I now find that FFv3.08 (and Flash 10.0r22) is much more stable.
Some shots of build 7077 that a bud emailed to me.
Are you manually adding the printer or does the driver software automatically do the printer installation? If it's the latter, be sure to run the setup as administrator and you may also want to disable windows' firewall(at least for the install)
The Dell cd will be customized for the desktop and i think you'll find that it will NOT work in the hp laptop. A regular(no brand name manufacturer) oem copy of xp home should work using the license from the Microsoft label that's on the hp.
Give Microsoft a call, they can fix you up over the phone. I did it when a BIOS update caused the windows activation on my oem system to de-activate. Took less than 10 minutes.
Just double click on the top border of the task manager window.
You're in 'tiny footprint mode'; you got there by double clicking in the space above the tabs.
Have you tried turning off windows' firewall? What happens when you boot to safe mode with networking and try browsing?
If you can ping successfully by ip address and not by name the problem is with your dns settings.
Once you've booted from the HDD, what happens when you run setup off the CD ? Maybe the problem is your CD drive hardware ?
Just a guess. Does it work if you switch the service's Startup Type to 'Manual' ?
It's not the processor, you need to add more RAM.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Great White North!
The cd only has the files necessary to install XP; the license is on a label attached to the computer case(or bottom of a laptop). I'm guessing both computers are from the same manufacturer and this is why the one disk worked for both. For example, a Dell disk wouldn't work on an HP and vice versa.
SP1 ?
maybe SP2beta.
Definitely sounds like Vista doesn't like your notebook much either.
Can you change your home page to anything else at all ? Have you tried the Reset on the Advanced tab of Internet properties?
The BIOS settings of your new motherboard are probably not the same as the old one. Try this: Enter setup and disable Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI), save and reboot.
The following is from Firefox's knowledge base:
If Firefox processes that remain in memory at exit are a recurring problem, try these solutions:
* Problematic extensions, including AVG Safe Search, PicLens, and Skype Extension for Firefox, can cause the problem, which can be fixed by disabling or uninstalling the extension. See Troubleshooting extensions and themes for more information.
* Sometimes Java applets can cause the Firefox process to persist after exit. Try updating Java to the latest version or, if you don't need Java, disable the Java plugin by clearing the "Enable Java" checkbox in Firefox (see Using the Java plugin with Firefox for details).
Windows:
* Using certain Internet security software is reported to cause the issue on some systems:
o If you use ZoneAlarm on Windows Vista, uninstall it and use another firewall product (or use the Windows Firewall).
o If you use Avast! Antivirus, switch to another antivirus product if you also have ZoneAlarm installed.
o If you use Norton 360 2.0, make sure that you have all available Norton updates (for more help, contact Norton Support) and that you have followed the instructions in the Configuring Norton 360 article.
Why not let Windows handle the virtual memory?
Go to Control Panel>System>Advanced tab>under Performance, click Settings>Advanced tab>under Virtual Memory, click Change>select System Managed Size and click Set>click OK and Restart the computer when prompted to do so.
If you wish to keep the Custom virtual memory settings, set the Min to 768 and Max to 1536.
You'll need to add Print Services for Unix to the XP box. Right click My Network Places and left click Properties; click the Advanced menu and then Optional Networking Components. Select Other Network File and Print Services (check box) and then click Next. (you may be prompted for the Windows XP cd at this point).
When adding the printer on the Linux box, the print server name will be the name(or IP address) of the XP computer and the queue name will be the share name of the printer(i believe the queue is case sensitive)
Thanks for the advice. I did what you said and the only thing close i found was a .vxd (virtual device driver) file. I tried to point nlite its way and it didn't recognize it. Should I copy and paste all of the files here so you can see them or am i just screwed?
No, just post a link to the download at HP; i'll scoop them and have a look. What model of HP system do you have ?
Boot your computer from the Vista disk and do a system restore to the latest point before the updates.
You may want to change your power settings when it's plugged in to never sleep/hibernate or at least set it for after an hour or two.
The extracted files likely contain drivers for a variety of operating systems; you'll need to navigate the sub-folders until you find the right one for XP.
Be sure to back up anything you want to keep before you start.
Simply boot from the Vista disk and follow the prompts(license, I agree...) and when you get to the type of installation, select Custom. At the next screen you can choose to format the existing partition or delete partitions, etc.
I know on a HP you can restore to factory settings in system tools...is there n e way to do it without a cd on a diffrent computer...formatting c is not an option!!!!!!
The restore to factory settings uses a disk image that is located on a separate(sometimes hidden) partition on the hard drive. You'll need to find out if this different computer has such a factory image.
Alternatively, depending on which version of Windows you are using, you may be able to use System Restore to recover.
I had similar issues with a Dell. Boot from the Vista disk and use System restore to just before it tried to update. Once you get it running go to Dell's site and download/install the latest drivers for your Inspiron. Windows Update should be fine after that.
Call Microsoft support and they'll be able to get you re-activated on the phone.
Microsoft is also offering Free support for Vista SP1(for Installation and Compatibility issues anyways)
Go to the Control Panel. Open Internet Options and on the Connections tab, select Never Dial a connection.
I'm not sure what's up with your Display properties; Maybe try reinstalling the video driver on your system.
your cpu hitting 100% occasionally is not a big deal unless it is constantly stuck there and preventing normal usage.
I am pro updates as they most often address security issues. Others believe do not fix what is not broken, so the final decision is your call. Like I posted previously I manually updated the drivers on my daughter's notebook and it has been running smoothly since with auto updates on.
