It means it is a network printer.
i.e. the printer is not attached to the local machine but is being shared on the network by some manner of print server(might be built into print or could be another computer)

I'm not sure i'm understanding your question, but ' Run as' works for that too. You could also select Properties on the right click menu and then click the Advanced button where you can set it to 'Run with different credentials'. With that set it will prompt you when you try to run it.
Have you tried clearing the browsers' cache and cookies ?
Right click on the executable for the task and you'll get a popup menu. Left click on "Run as..." and enter your admin credentials.
Try booting to safe mode and hopefully the optimization program created a backup so you can undo the tweaks it made. Otherwise you could try a System Restore.
Open the Security Center, click on the link near the top labelled ' Using Windows Security Center'; a Help and Support window will open. Scroll down to the bottom and there is a section marked 'See Also'.
Click the link for 'use antivirus software that windows doesn't find' and it will open a guide on how to fix it.
Found this MS Knowledge base article. Third item in the Intro. Also, perhaps if you disconnect from the lan and just log in locally the printers can be removed?
Try this:
Go to Control Panel, Internet Options, click on the Connections tab; select 'Never dial a connection' and click Apply; then click the LAN Settings button and uncheck all the boxes, OK and Apply .
Try IE again. If it still doesn't work, go back to the LAN Settings and try it with 'Automatically detect settings' checked and Applied.
Do you get the Dial-up Connection box when you launch Firefox?
Go to Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center.
Under Sharing and Discovery, leave File Sharing 'On' and turn Public Folder Sharing 'Off'.
Also make sure Windows firewall has an Exception set for File and Printer sharing.
I have UAC on and share successfully with XP machines using the above settings.
Go to Run and enter control userpasswords2 , hit Enter and uncheck the box beside 'Users must enter a username and password to use this computer'
The game manufacturer states it does NOT support Vista, but does state that the game runs ok. My suggestion would be to try compatibility mode. Right click on the file that starts the game and left click on Properties; go to the Compaibility tab and start by selecting Windows XP, then Apply.
I was having similar issues ; I'm fairly sure it was upgraded network card drivers that did the trick but I disabled all power management for the NIC as well.
No such thing as a "Dumb" question and a little patience goes far too...

It seems Service Pack 1 for Office 2003 should fix you up.
If it'll run WinME your hardware is sound. Only thing I can think of is you need to update the BIOS on the motherboard.
nvstor.sys sounds like an nvidia nforce driver. Try downloading the latest nforce chipset driver from Gigabyte or directly from nvidia.
I have an Asus nforce4 SLI MB and have done the backup successfully; I used version 15 drivers from nvidia. My backup was only about a third of yours though.
Have you tried a new lan wire?
Open Media Player. The default settings in Vista hide the menus; press ALT and F on the keyboard together to view the menus( File, View, Play, etc.) then click on Tools, then Options. Go to the Security tab and put a check in the box beside Run script commands and rich media streams when the player is in a web page. click Apply and/or OK
Hopefully that'll do it.
When I loaded CS2 Illustrator after installing Vista I got an administrator error. I am the administrator. Any suggestions on how to rectify this? TIA! ;)
Did you upgrade to Vista with Illustrator already installed or are you trying to install Illustrator now?
Either way it sounds like UAC (User Account Control, a secutity feature in Vista). Try using the right click to launch/setup Illustrator and select Run as Administrator from the menu.
I have a network share that I have accessed as one user. I want to access another network share as another user. When I try to access the second drive it does not ask for my UN/PW it only tells me access denied.
I need to know how to make windows ask for the UN/PW so I can enter the correct permission information.
Open Windows Explorer, click on Tools then select map network drive. Enter the path to the network share (\\servername\sharename)
Click Connect using different user name. Uncheck Reconnect at logon if you don't want the connection to be permanent.
Like I mentioned above it could be your motherboard drivers (or BIOS for that matter).
Go to http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894 .
Click on Knowledgebase, click on Advanced Search near the top left of the page. Search by ID: 737- and enter 18864
also 24463 applies specifically to your card but the latest driver is supposed to fix it.
Hi all.
I just got a new PC with Vista (32bit) on it. Unfortunately there was a major problem with the display. Whenever it finishes loading, (green Knight Rider thing) the display would go dark but you can hear the Vista jingle. The monitor doesn't go into standby so it is receiving a signal. If you leave the machine to go into standby, then wake it, you are greeted with the password screen and can continue but that means waiting half an hour.
I've solved the problem but with a not-so-ideal solution. I'm using Microsoft default VGA drivers instead of the Radeon X1300 Vista 32bit drivers which seem to cause this problem. Obviously, with this solution, running games is impossible. Google Earth can't even run in Direct X mode!
If anyone knows of anything which might help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
SanFranCrisko.
Are you using the latest version of the driver?
Be sure to run the driver install as Administrator if UAC is on.
It could also be a problem with the chipset drivers(PCI-E or AGP) for your motherboard.
ah i tried it after reinstalling vista 32 bit and it worked fine
seems 64 bit has a lack of driver support
ah yes too true. 64bit is still lacking much software support in many aspects.
cant have no paralell port
Doesn't have to be LPT; any local port will do to get the driver installed initially.
Has anyone successfully installed Acrobat Reader? It downloads ok, uncompresses, then gives the error message "The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. ...". I used command prompt to display the values of all environment variables and the TEMP is in d:\users\<full path here>.
Anyone know a solution to this problem?
Thanks
I've installed it without any probs.
I got a C42 Plus and it works fine for LAN printing for XP but not for any printing for vista :(
Try this: Install the C42 as a local printer on LPT1. (no test page of course.)
Once added, right click on the printer and go to 'Run as administrator', then 'Properties'. Go to the Ports tab, click on Add Port, leave Local Port selected and click New Port. Type in the UNC path to the network printer. (i.e. \\server name\printer share name)
Ok and/or Apply your way back out and try printing.
According to Epson's website the 4200 and 42ux are supported out of the box(meaning Vista already includes the driver) and it appears the 2200 is not yet supported.
Can someone please explain what the Windows Vista Experience Score is, and what it does ?
For me, there is only Ultimate.
4.8 with my AMD 64x2 3800+ getting the low score.
Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button for Startup and Recovery, uncheck Automatically restart under System Failure, click OK twice. Next time you have a problem you should get a blue screen, post the first few lines.
Uninstall Firefox from Add/Remove Programs.
Use Windows Explorer to confirm the deletion of the installation directory. This is usually 'c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox' and if memory serves the uninstaller prompts you to remove this directory completely.
Finally delete the Profiles directory.
Re-install Firefox.
This of course assumes you've backed up any info you wish to keep, like Bookmarks...
Good luck!
Did you try re-applying Service Pack 4?
hi folks,
I moved house recently and as a result cant find a lot at the moment. what i am after is a copy of a Photoshop Plugin called "3D Transform", its found on the photoshop CD under plugins, i just cant for the life of me find my CD and am wondering if one of you good people could help me out??
cheers,

Sounds like the 'Windows' key(the one with a Windows logo) is stuck. That key used with the keys you describe have those functions. If you press the Pause key(with the Windows key) the System control panel should open. If you can't get it unstuck it may be time for a new keyboard.
Try the Restore feature in Vista. Right click the folder, go to properties and then the Previous Versions tab. Select an earlier date and restore.
It's a bit early so the jury's not out on this yet, but so far I'm liking it. I've set it up dual boot with my existing Win XP pro install.
The UAC (User Account Control) is a great idea for security in theory but Vista's implementation is aweful. I disabled it after about 2 extremely annoying minutes.
The 'Search' is very cool. When I found that Defrag wasn't in the Computer Management console, rather than tunnel thru all the menus to get to system tools, i simply typed defrag in the search and it launched it for me. Defrag's been improved too, u can schedule a time for it to run automatically.
http://www.my-etrust.com has a free antivirus for Vista.
nVidia has new drivers for Vista.
Now if it'll only handle my kid's games....
Later:cool:
So i'm trying to set up a network but my computer doesn't have the driver for the ethernet controller and was wondering how or where I would be able to find the driver to install. LIke I said its on Windows XP using a dell 2350.
