I prefer to set initial and max to the same amount(~1.5 to 2 times the ram) so there is no resizing. If you could swing another stick of 256MB ram you'll be rockin' :D

Groan... I hope it's not XP- six floppies just to do it that way. Blah!
Laser, what is the exact version of Windows that you need to install?
Sorry for the confusion; I don't need to install anything, I was just wondering if acezrwild's system had a floppy drive to boot from.
I currently have no operating system installed so I HAVE to be able to boot from the CD drive to get a new operating system loaded. ?????????????????? what do I do????
No floppy drive :?:
Hello everyone, Im just a 14 year old kid tyring to get his disk drives working so he can reinstall wolrd of warcraft. Basically what is wrong is I have two disk drives. A burner and a dvd rom. My burner drive light blinks like its reading a disk but there is no disk and then the dvd rom drive wont read anything because the burner is blinking. The burner drive wont even open. Im desperate to get my disk drives so I can get back to world of warcraft someone please help.
Oops, hello Jack you beat me to the punch. I was gonna suggest disconnecting the burner and see if the dvd rom starts working.
I have a Canon bjc-1010 that I bought when I had Windows 98. I now have XP and know that it is not compatible. I have downloaded an updated driver through Canon, but still cannot print. Is there something I should have done other than downloading the driver?
There are many things besides the driver that can cause printing problems...
:?: Can you give us some more details please? Like specifically what happens when you try to print; is this a totally new computer or did you just upgrade the OS from 98 to XP; parallel or USB, etc.
Im trying to install drivers for my motherboard (http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4PE&langs=09) ASUS P4PE. It's about 3 years old. I downloaded a BIOS update, but the file type is .awd.
IMy PC says i dont have a program to open with it. Would anyone have any clues as to what i should do to install this driver?? :-| , :o
It's an image file for Award BIOS. Instructions Here
I wouldn't recommend updating the bios unless the new version has a fix for a problem you're experiencing. That's just my opinion.
Glad to hear it! :) It's been some time since i used any 9x OS so i wasn't too sure about that last part; guess it's only in XP.
Thanks Laser;
Before I try it, I was wondering if this process will also get rid of any of the other icons in my toolbar which I want to keep ?
Sorry for all the questions :(Doug
Just QuickTime.
Hey;
I recently upgraded my Quicktime and it installed a shortcut in the bottom right of my toolbar. I don't want the shortcut there but I cant seem to get rid of it........how do I do that?
Thanks
Click Start and then Run. Type in msconfig and click OK or press Enter. Click on the Startup tab and deselect(uncheck) qttask, Apply and then restart your computer. You'll get a popup telling you that you're using a selective startup yadayada, just check don't show this again and you're done.
I cannot open/find the control panel to delete the updates.
Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Check the box at the top to 'Show Updates'
I have found out that some of my emails with attachments are not reaching the people to whom I am sending them. The attachments are jpeg files...quite small and used to go through without any problem. I recently switched to Express from Outlook as I could not click on url links in my emails in Outlook but can in Express.
When I check my sent folder, it all looks OK, as if the attachments were sent. Any ideas please?
Send an email with an attachment to yourself. If that works the problem's likely with the ISP of your recipient; they should call and see what's up.
Hey what is the best free pop-up blocker I can download for Internet Explorer for Windows ME?
Firefox ;) Just kidding :D No really...
Don't use IE much myself, but from what I've seen the Google toolbar seems popular.
Which game is it? Does it not have a 'setup' for audio, video and controllers?
 When I click "shut down" computer, My computer just restarts
Assuming you're using XP, here's a place to start...MS Knowledgebase Article 320299
It could be OE itself. Go to Tools, Options, and then click on the Security tab. Check to see if 'Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened...' and ' Block images and other external content...' are checked. If they are try unchecking one at a time and try again. Make sure your antivirus is up to date and scan everything b4 you open!
Are you using a filter on the fax modem side of your splitter?
Gotta love browser wars! :) Interesting article. I was weaned to the www on Netscape and have never had much use for IE, except for Windows Update and certain sites that format for IE only. Mozilla is my browser of choice; nothing is perfect but in my experience/opinion it's just plain better :!:
Is your HDD serial or ide? Have you tried using just one stick of ram?
It sounds to me like something else came loose when you removed the modem card. Double check all your cables and reseat the video card for starters.
Does this apply if it is a track point device? I incorrectly said it is mouse.
"Listen to what I am thinking, not to what I said"
This is common with the Thinkpad track point. I've had 3 different models that all did it eventually. Make sure you've got the latest drivers and you can try adjusting the sensitivity in the trackpoint control panel. I've learned to like the 'touchpad' on my t41 and Santa got me a mini USB optical mouse that beats both hands down!
Any particular reason for booting to Safe Mode? Have you checked for BIOS updates?
but his user accts doesnt work!! Read post $5 carefully
OOPs! Missed that. Thanx Jack!
Thanks for the reply. I already know about that one. What I mean is there is some way to change user accounts so it is like the user accounts interface in windows 2000?
If you mean the 'Ctrl-Alt-Del logon', go to Control Panel, User Accounts, and under Pick a Task, select 'Change the way users log on and off'.
Uncheck Use Welcome Screen, this will also trash Fast User Switching.
(Sorry i posted this in more than one spot i dont know what category it should be in.) Ive got a hp pavilion ze5000 notebook. Its got a 2.4 ghz proccessor, 512 mb memory, ati mobility radeon graphics. Problem is that when i move a window it leaves trails behind it (not permanent, about a 0.75 second delay before they go away) and when i play a visualization on Windows Media Player they appear very very slow, both of which will bring my cpu usage to 80-100%. Ive tried changeing resolution, color bit, and turning off hardware acceloration. Any ideas on how i might be able to fix this? More info on graphics card- Pentium 4 2.4 ghz, Mobility Radeon (m6) AGP (0x4C59), DAC Type: Internal DAC (350Mhz) (Whatever that means) (ive tried reinstalling drivers, and windows)
Try downloading the Latest ATI Radeon Drivers
Just not enough horsepower Jack. I've seen specks on 52x cdr's that want a minimum P3 700!!; The 64MB ram sounds about right but it should be DDR or PC100/133 not 72pin edo.
Try reinstalling the USB Adapter Card extensions . Seems there is also an issue if processor cycling is on in the Energy Saver control panel on the G3's.
The Windows box uses a dynamic IP. Guess I'm SOL
What Christian said!
Or you can reserve an IP address on the DHCP server for the Windows box,
Or you could assign it a fixed IP in the same subnet but outside of the DHCP pool.
Please help me, folks :)....
Are there any other ideas that I could try?
Yes! Try adding Print Services for Unix on your Windows machine, print via LPR from the Mac using IP address of Windows box and queue name is the Share name(case sensitive).
You could also try printing LPR instead of using SMB . You'll need to add Unix Printing service to your Windows pc because it's not installed by default. ( Right click My Network Places and select Properties; go to the Advanced menu and select Optional Network Components; check Other Network File and Print Services, click next to install Print Services for Unix)
On the Mac select LPR when setting up the printer, use the IP address of the Windows machine and the queue name should be the Windows exact share name(Case sensitive).
If you're able to get to the printer's properties, try switching to direct printing in the spool settings on the Details tab and switch the format from EMF to Raw.
Enable the computer account on the server.
Have you checked the 'Set Program Access and Defaults' in the Add or Remove Programs control panel?
Have you tried updating to the latest BIOS release? A couple of the updates addressed 'hang' issues' in Win2k.
Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and open Security Center. On the left hand side of the window is 'Resources'(click on the arrows on the end to expand it if necessary); click on "Change the Way Security Center Alerts Me" and uncheck Automatic Updates in the Alert Settings.
Are you using Norton Antivirus 2003?
No reason you couldn't use both drivers. If the PS drivers work better, just use them for the fax/scans. If there are only a few users that print these types of docs you could set them up to print directly to the printers and the print jobs won't have to spool on the print server. Here's HP's info on the subject.
What type of printer are you using?
From what you've stated, my guess would be that you are using a PCL print driver; since PDF is basically postscript you'd likely get better results using a Postscript driver.
Do you have the Quick Launch Toolbar enabled? You can check this by right clicking on the Taskbar, point to Toolbars, and look for a check mark beside Quick Launch. If it isn't checked just left click on Quick Launch to enable it.
I had similar issues with XP Pro on a system I built. Updating my motherboard drivers fixed me up; you may also want to check for BIOS updates. I actually tried a BIOS update first but I still experienced lock ups.
You need to load the sata drivers during the install. Find the CD that came with your motherboard and copy the sata drivers from there to a floppy. During the install process you'll be prompted to press F6 to load 3rd party drivers. Just press f6, put in the floppy and setup should find your drives.
Open the System Control Panel, click on the Advanced tab, click the Settings button in the User Profiles section, then simply select the profile you don't want and click on Delete.
