I was reading Google Blogs when I saw that they have released a new Google Desktop. I have never used Google Desktops before so I decided to try it out. I downloaded Google Desktops and I wanted to personalize my news. I Was expecting it to let you pick from categories to personalize your News from but instead it instantly knew what I wanted to see!

I was shocked at how much information Google retains of your internet use. I had searched for “Pirate’s Days” about a month or two ago and an article about pirate’s days ended up in my personalized news. The amount of Hard Drive Space Google needs to Retain months of searches by everyone who uses Google would be a very large figure that I can't imagine.

Google Desktop may be giving you a peek at what the Google Operating System for desktops will look like; a rich interactive platform using widgets, your search habits, and your personal files. I think a Google Operating System could be “The Windows Killer.” Right now a Google Operating System for Desktops is just based upon speculation and rumors; as I wrote about in an earlier blog Google has approximately 100,000 servers working at any given time. I am hoping that all the servers will be used for holding widgets and data for users of the Google Operating System.

When Microsoft announced their new ad campaign with Jerry Seinfield everyone was confused how Jerry could help save Microsofts Reputation. The Debut of Jerry and Bill Gates first Commercial didn't make any sense that Microsoft had to release an explanation about the ad.

It has been a couple weeks since we first saw Jerry and Bill in the Shoe store picking out shoes. No one understood it but now with Part 2 of the Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfield commercial it is starting to make sense. Bill and Jerry live with a regular family in the suburbs trying to get to know normal people better.

Putting Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfield in a suburb home and living with a regular family is an interesting concept. I bet if they were to try living with a regular family in real life it would be like survivor for them. What will the Gates and Seinfield Duo do next? I don't know but I hope it will be interesting.

The game that people waited to be released for over a year 'Spore' is now available to the iPhone and the iPod Touch. I don't think the iPhone needs any more parasites it has enough bugs already.

Spore Origins is the iPhone and iPod touch game which is currently $5.00 to purchase on iTunes. I wouldn't download the game from itunes because there isn't a preview to watch or even game play pictures to see if you like the game.

When you are trying to sell a product to someone they want to be able to see a demo of what they are buying. I wouldn't buy a game without a preview and I am glad I'm not alone on this one. A large number of iTunes customers have posted comments on how they wouldn't buy the game for several different reasons. I only have time to list two reasons why people won't buy it (1 there is no preview for the game and (2 people think it's to expensive for a phone game.

I am writing this assuming everyone knows Bill Gates has retired this year if you weren't aware of that now you are. I watched the 90 second commercial with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfield which I found funny but had nothing to do with computers at all. I started thinking "Does Bill Gates want to get into comedy?" now at first that was a bit strange The founder of Microsoft becoming a comedian but after a few minutes the idea made perfect sense.

Bill Gates is retired but he still has some power at Microsoft so what would stop him from trying to launch an acting career by using Microsoft advertising? I have to admit he did do an okay job acting dumb but I don't know if he has any real potential as an actor. I don't know if you would watch a half hour of Jerry SeinField and Bill Gates doing a comedy routine all I know is if Bill Gates wants to get into acting no one is going to stop him he's mega rich!

I doubt this was a Microsoft goof up on advertising but if it was at least they made their goof up with Jerry Seinfield to add a little bit of humor into it.

Has The Idea of one Mega Internet Computer Operating System ever crossed your mind? I have definitely thought about the possibility of a World Wide Operating System but I guess I was not the only one thinking about it. Google started out as a Search Engine, Their next big step was announcing Android Their new Mobile Operating System, and then their browser Chrome.

I know most large companies such as Microsoft and Apple never think about the possibility of their systems becoming obsolete by one company. Google isn't even in the Desktop Operating System game or so it seems to the naked eye. I read that Google may be working on a Internet Operating System.... Okay the idea sounds cool but after further research They may have something even bigger in mind!

Google has 100,000 Servers running multiple Web Applications. I was browsing blogs by other people who have had the same thought going through their head and it turns out that Google does have a working Mega Operating System their was even a link to an article about it that Google "moved" and the page it took me to did not have anything about the Google Operating System.

According to Skrenta's Blog "What is this platform that Google is building? It's a distributed computing platform that can manage web-scale datasets on 100,000 node server clusters. It includes a petabyte, distributed, fault tolerant filesystem, distributed RPC code, probably network shared memory and process migration. …

Yes Internet Explorer 8 is in Beta 2 and still has plenty of bugs. Chrome has one security bug that everyone is focusing on not thinking about how many security bugs their first browser had and how many bugs they still do have. I can't wait for Chrome to be out of beta.

Google just announced their project that has just been rumors up till now. Google has created a Open Source Browser called Chrome and wanted to tell the whole world about it through a comic book designed by Scott Cloud. The Google staff take you through the 38 paged comic book explaining their revolutionizing Open Source Browser.

Chrome is different then any other browser. The stability feature of Chrome sounds amazing. Each tab is a separate process that can be shut down via the task manager without losing your other tabs. Chrome also introduces something that will change your paranoid ways of passwording every file with 300 numbers so that the Website you are on can't access your computers files.

Chrome has been designed with the same program used to write Google's new phone Operating System Android. I am reading the comic book that they released the idea with and I love it! Google did not announce this on their site but sent a email to the unofficial blog of Google blogoscope. I know you most likely would like to read it for your self so click here and find out about a new type of browser one you have never thought about before.

I recently wrote a blog stating that I was trying to go back to 7. I went to bed and got some geek sleep and then woke up and did the impossible! I have written out the steps below how to get back to Internet Explorer 7 by tricking Microsoft.

Make sure you have another browser before you remove Internet Explorer. Go to Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs> click on remove Internet explorer 8> It will then say that if you remove Internet Explorer 8 some programs may not work just hit okay. Now it will start to remove Internet Explorer 8 half way through you will manually have to tell it to delete file after file when it pops up on the screen. Now that it is successfully removed Restart your computer.

Okay now you have no Internet Explorer at all now it is time to download Internet Explorer 6 to upgrade to 7. I know that your probably wondering how the heck I found Internet Explorer 6. Google still has a download of it but it says it is 7 on their download page.

Successfully download 6 then go and download Internet Explorer 7 still available from Microsoft. You do not need to remove 6 Internet Explorer 7 will install with no problems. Restart your computer and then go to Internet Explorer. It will be a bit different then you remember it is kind of a updated version of 7 . You …

Have you ever wished that your friends at home could see what your doing when your on the go and away from a computer? Adobe must have wanted the same exact thing because they are making it possible this September.

Adobe PhotoShop Express will be a new mobile phone application currently only available for 5 Windows Mobile Smart Phones. You can use shozu to upload your photos but it only works with certain phones like the iPhone. Adobe has added a cool or not so cool feature to their new application.

When you make your free basic PhotoShop.com account it comes with 5 gigabytes of storage, invitation only online albums, and you get to view your online photos when your on the road. You may upgrade to a premium plus account for 50.00 a year and get 20 gigabytes of storage and extra features not available to basic members. All PhotoShop.com accounts get the feature of having their photos uploaded immediately after you take it.

I think that it's great to be able to upload your photos from almost anywhere but I hope there is a option to pick and choose what pictures to be immediately uploaded. Google has just released their new Advertising program which works with your currently existing Ad Sense account. Google's new advertising program is called Google Ad Manager, and it is currently available in 32 languages!

I had to get a Google Ad Manager account the second I heard about it and it is so much better then Google Ad Sense. It gives you a lot more control over what ads are on your site, and what size they are. You can let advertisers compete for your ad space. You get to set how much an ad has to cost to show up on your site by CPM or CPC .

Google Ad Manager has a lot of cool new features one of them allows you to customize exactly what type of ads your customers see. You can use code to tell it how old people have to be to see certain ads and where the ad will be placed on your site.

One feature that is brand new to Google all together is the ordering feature. This allows you to decide when certain advertisers, and or agencies get to advertise on your site. You can also turn it off if you want for the weekend.

The only problem with Google Ad Manager is you can't log in via Firefox but I am sure they will fix that soon.

I think Google Ad Manager is going to be a very profitable advertising feature. Because of all the …

According to the San Fransisco Chronicle Verizon and google are making a deal to make Google the default browser for all Verizon mobile phones. Eflux Media says that Verizon will get part of the adwords revenue.

Almost everyone loves Google but having Google as your only browser choice for your phone could be found to others as a Google take over. The only part of this deal that Verizon still is hesitant to is that Google will keep all search history, Verizon is also very skeptical about Googles new Operating system Android which is suppose to come out some time this year on t-mobile phones.

My take on the whole deal is if Google's mobile phone Operating System does great I hope they won't stop there hopefully they will develop a Operating System for desktops to compete against are two main choices at the moment Microsoft or Apple.

Just to quickly cover what Open ID is for the folks who do not know what it is. Open ID uses your fingerprint as your log-in for every single Website. Well if Open ID is put into action someone could use a computer at let's say a library they just put their finger on the screen and their in! Nice.... WRONG! There are people in the world who would love to take your finger print off of your hands they are hackers and they could use this technology to steal your identity. It would be easy enough to poison computer cache used for the public so anyone who used them would have their Identity stolen and then they can commit as many crimes as they want as you on the internet and you get blamed and put in jail. I have to say that Tim-Berners Lee and his team has over-looked a lot of endless possibilities for scammers when this is open for every computer. The Zune just recently let you put copyrighted videos onto it that happened about 2 months ago before that you could put barely any videos on a zune while you could on an Ipod. I also noticed that in 2007 Microsoft did not make the Amazons best list it was Linux and Apple that made the Amazons best list with the MacBook Pro getting the best review and called most frequently gifted. Without Bill Gates in the picture Microsoft seems to be losing it's game, every buyout Microsoft has ever tried to do they have done with no problems however Yahoo will not sell to them and I understand why with the insane 24 hour deadlines and the people that now represent Microsoft being to aggressive and not playing there cards right I can see the end of the Microsoft dynasty within the next 5 years or less. I installed XP
I activated it
I did all the window updates except sp3
I had basically no extra drivers on windows.
My motherboard died so I bought a new one
I switched from an abit Motherboard to an xfx motherboard but kept the same processor
I reconnected my xp drive and it was still intact and working just as I had left it!

it may be possible to keep your Operating System even after installing all your drivers by deleting them then removing the mother board and putting in a new one That theory has not yet been tested but I thought that the tech world would find this very interesting!

Hi, I want to first say that I have been going through some php GNU programs to find that the versions released have holes to be hacked through by hackers. I am working on recoded a gnu chatroom that is part of my servers software. I am now going to recode TikiWiki as I know it holds many security risks such as scripts being able to be ran through the blogs etc etc. It seems that some GNU software has so many flaws that it may have been done on purpose by people who were "helping" but actually had alterior motives to hack servers through the gaps they left open. This is only my opinion but I wouldn't be surprised if it is true! You need to go through each file and make sure all arrays are closed and at every end of line there is a ; in php this will make GNU programs much safer for you, and your server. I would not submit your fixed version back to the creators because the hackers are sure to find someway to break through it if they can just read it. Anyways keep your servers safe from SQL Injections etc etc.

What is the cause if a Page cannot be found message is display when opening a web page other than your homepage?

Most likely causes are
A: you \ or a co-worker moved the page (if we are talking about a website you own)
B: you\or a co-worker deleted the page
C: the link was misspelled

If you are talking about regular websites and not a site you own the above still applies just take out the "you\ or a coworker". I see the A and B examples on the web much, much more than the C example.

You are correct snapshot, however combining the techniques in that article with what SEO skills one already has or to ones they are learning will help them in search engine rankings. I'm curious how websites will rank in BING since they are getting YAHOO.

Thanks for sharing that thread. Black Hat SEO may provide good short term results but in the long run, it is like making a deal with an unethical agent. Think of it as steroids. It may give you fast results but it is not good at all.

I totally agree!! Lets take something that has nothing to do with programming, oh let's use sports for example. Okay let's say you just hit a home run and the baseball hit the hubble telescope (yeah that's impossible, this is just an example). Well, later a few reporters get suspicious on how you could hit a ball so hard and make it go so far and they find out you are using steriods that say in fine print "Made on Mars, may have unwanted side effects for human beings". Well, I'm sure you've already figure out that you would be kicked out of the league and probably would be questioned about your communication with Martians. Now back to reality, Black Hat SEO is the same way you get great results and you make your way up the search charts until a google official notices your using black hat techniques and "strike three your out!" of googles search engine and most likely all other search engines.

I hope someone got a kick out of my space humor.

I have a very simple way of explaining SEO. Basically the internet is made up of three groups, white hats, grey hats, and black hats. I didn't make these terms up they actually come from western tv shows\movies. White hat SEO takes more time to learn than black hat SEO but black hat SEO is taboo. When I first started out trying Search Optimization I accidentaly made some black hat moves. I'm thankful that some folks here at Daniweb pointed that out to me or my Website would more than likely have been banned from search engines.

White hat SEO isn't that hard, I have actually written a lot about it on one particular thread along with other DaniWeb users. http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread163359.html
that thread helped save a guy $1000 that he didn't have to pay a company to white hat optimize his site. I strongly encourage you to read that thread and several others on the SEO forum.

We do not need a BING subforum and I can explain why.
BING (formerly known as microsoft live!) changed the UI but besides that SEO is still Search Engine Optimization and will work basically the same with any Search engine, sure there maybe a few changes and tricks but nothing much. I know that the combination of YAHOO! and BING will cause quite a stir in Google searches and some people will probably switch to BING since it is combining the power of YAHOO into it... or at least it will if Google doesn't mess it up (I sure hope they don't).

Adding Sub-forums can create havoc for people who maintain the site and will also add spam postings which you don't want to see. If you have a Sub-forum that isn't used much it ends up being a spam zone. We can't create sub-forums on our own (thank Dani's site settings for that!!!) so the decision is up to CSCGal (Dani) and she has already made it clear that there is no point in adding yet another sub-forum.

I agree with her highness on this one. It's really her call anyway.

There's already too much discussion of unrelated matters already (especially the recent surge of social networking marketing ideas) that don't really belong in the Search Engine Optimization sub-forum of the Internet Marketing forum.

It's my opinion that the SEO forum needs to concentrate itself more on related search engine issues. I like coming here to read and share ideas on this one particular subject.

I agree with Dani and Fred 100 percent. Sub dividing the forums will only create havoc and make it possible for trolls to post unrelated information in sub-forums that don't get that much attention. I also agree that the SEO forum should be just that Search Engine Optimization. Link building can be helpful but you can't rely on it. People are much more likely to find your site via a search engine than randomly seeing your link on a website that they found with the help of a search engine. There has been some talk about SEO with other sites like Twitter but I think those threads should be kept to a minimum or made a sticky so people won't have to ask the same questions over and over.

Oh ya, it's spam for sure. I'd hope that I'd never sink so low as to auto-Twitter-spam the universe with my crap. Thanks for your concern though, I am mostly trying to figure out if there's a grey-hat SEO angle to all this tweety trend, because it looks like it which might be around for a while.

Your welcome Fred. Here is the grey hat way to tweeting. As the Original Poster stated use keywords than people who are scum of the universe and do use bots to follow you will pick you up just by the words you use!! So heres a simple guide. I have like 5 minutes before college so it isn't in depth
1. use keywords in your 140 character tweets
2. try to tweet on your keyword topic but it's fine to tweet to friends cause you still show up in the live timeline.
3. add links in your tweets to your site or whatever your tweeting about.
4. don't use bots and be choosy of who you follow. Who you are a follower of. If you are a follower of a spammer that doesn't look so good so be careful.
5. try tweeting every few hours or if you don't have that much time a few times a day.
6. have fun oh I'll follow your tweets so just let me know your username :)
