I believe I have got 'bad' virus on my toshiba portege m400, (i.e. not easy to get rid off) from a download.

After which my scanning facilities in my antivirus software, Norman were disabled. I have changed virus software to Kaspersky Antivirus but now it will not update properly, the database will not update and is current labelled obsolete. I have scanned the computer with a rescue disk: Avira Rescue System, update to 19.02.2010, if found a warning but no viruses/malware. I have scanned the computer with the free Housecall as well with nothing found.

I have tried scanning it with a Kaspersky Rescue disk but get an error message with Intel Boot Agent, PXE-E61 Media Test Fail when I load the rescue cd.

I now only get the Toshiba set up screen.

I would appreciate any help but I cannot format my hard drive as I have not backed it up (I know that is a bad move)

Thanks

hey lordint,
The first thing you should know is running more than one anti-virus at a time or having more than one installed at a time can cause major conflicts, even making some not work properly. Please delete your other anti-viruses and than post back here if Kapersky isn't working. There is a slight possibility that your running kapersky 6.0 which had the glitch you are describing but they found a fix to it heres a link http://support.kaspersky.com/wks6mp3/error?qid=208279891

I wish I had gotten this story before the San Fransisco Chronicle or Cnet, but the truth is they got it before me. A lady in Florida got a team of lawyers to sue Google, the Search Engine firm in San Fransisco, CA for breaching her privacy with Google Buzz. I know Google get's sued now and then but this lawsuit, is, well different.

I'm sure plenty of people were filled with ire about the entire Google Buzz predicament. But Mz. Hibnick was the one who actually took action and hired a team of lawyers to sue Google for breaching several communication laws and most importantly the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act . I have to give a hand to Mz. Hibnicks lawyers for doing their research and having the guts to go up against Google about Google Buzz.

Mz. Hibnick filed this as a class action lawsuit, so I'm sure others will join her in suing Google, but you have to think about the company you're challenging and how powerful they are. Mz. Hibnick may have not thought of this but Google could easily shut down Gmail in a heart beat. Now I know that there would be a huge uproar heard around the world if Gmail was closed, but how much do you pay for the service? You don't pay a dime and that's how they would get away with shutting it down.

I'm sure that there …

Lately everyone on the Web has been wanting to know about one thing Google Buzz, well I'm tired of that subject. I would probably write about a different company but when I found out that Google is getting into the food industry, I felt that I had to write about it.

Google isn't going to be opening up a Google Diner or anything like that but they are working on enhancing the types of food you can eat by breaking the language barriers that so many of us have run into at restaurants. What am I going on about? An alpha version of Google Goggles that can translate a menu of food in a different language into your language with a single snap from your camera enabled phone. They say that it will be awhile before this is an available feature. I'm guessing that they mentioned it at such an early stage as an attempt to try lower the amount of Google Buzz articles.

I know that this feature is still very much in the alpha stage but I see it being used for so much more than just menus at restaurants. I think if they made one that let you flip through a bunch of papers and it instantly changed the words via your phone, it would majorly help universal communication and possibly even help governments communicate better and therefore help avoid wars.

I am trying something like this to no avail:

Ruby on rails has a built in method and if I remember it correctly it is self.salt . You can always google ruby on rails salt if you'd like.

Ok,
So rdoc avoids over-documentation by deciding that some modules & functions (e.g. private methods) are best left ignored and undocumented. Kindly rdoc lets you override some of this helpfulness by passing the '--all' and/or '--promiscuous' at run-time. Great.

However, there are still some modules that are left undocumented for reasons unknown to me, and my google-fu is not up to finding the relevant documentation on documentation tools.

What I am after really is an exhaustive (or nearly exhaustive) list of things that will cause rdoc to ignore parts of code (i.e. #--, :nodoc: etc).

Any ideas?

Sirry Jimmy, but your question doesn't make much sense to me. An rdoc is simply a documentation file that tells you a little bit about the application. You have to look up the applications API to find every single nuance. If every single bit of code was in an rdoc, it wouldn't be very helpful.

Find compassionate hobbyists willing to help, or start researching what to do yourself.

Depending on the type of website, I'm guessing you have in mind a rather large dynamic site, you'll probably need help if you have no technical background at all. The time it would take for you to learn all you need to know for a large complex site would probably put you off the whole idea. But if you're willing to learn and invest the time, many of us are here to help answer your questions if you show an effort. If not and you don't have the money to hire people, you might have to find someone willing to be a partner in the project.

You need to have some tech skills to actually break some ground, especially when it comes to ruby or Ruby on Rails. What you can do is write some basic code and than make it open source, thus letting people expand on it and make it better. I guess that's the best way to go if you have no real tech skills. You can also go to the ruby on rails irc #rubyonrails and ask if anyone wants to help out with your idea. If anyone is interested they'll let you know. if your idea is ruby based please go to the #ruby irc. Oh, both IRCS are on freenode :).

Google Buzz has been the center of attention this week to anyone who has a Gmail account. I have to say that Google Buzz took me by complete surprise, so of course I wrote a blog anout how it is Google's new spam system. Well now I'm writing this article telling you how to disable Google Buzz, yeah thats right turn it off, deactivate, kill the buzz. Before I tell you how to tell Google to buzz off, I have to give credit to Cnet for figuring out how to completely disable Google Buzz.

Cnet's instructions are pretty straight forward, however you don't necessarily have to do all of them, but it is highly recommended.
First go to the bottom of the page and click buzz off, kaboom google buzz is turned off, or so it seems. As cnet pointed out, everything that was buzzed about you could still be on your google profile, so if you really want to wipe out Google buzz traces don't click buzz off, first go to your Google profile and delete every entry by hand. Now you can remove all your followers and block them. Here are a lot of questions that probably come to your mind "How do you get to my google profile? Well let's say your gmail account name was googlebuzzhasfreakedmeout, you would simply go to google.com/profiles/googlebuzzhasfreakedmeout and delete each comment and posting by hand. I started writing about Ecosia, the new, "green powered" search engine, the very first week it launched. I can't help but admit that I'm a bit envious that Davey Winder wrote the very first article about Ecosia the very first day it launched. But, hey, if he hadn't written about it I wouldn't know about it. Well, now to my news story.

Ecosia is a search engine like Google, Yahoo, and Bing, except Ecosia has a unique twist to internet search, they donate a large amount of the profit they make from ads to the WWF an organization which helps save the rain forest. According to Ecosia, each search saves 2.4 yards of rain forest, well I didn't want to know how many yards of rain forest Ecosia was saving. I wanted to know approximatly how many trees they were saving, so I did a lot of research. I first had to turn yards into feet, so 2.4 yards is 7.2 feet, than I had to find out the average base of a tree trunk which is approximately 4.5 feet. I than divided the 31,698,781 yards that have been saved to date by two. Now I know that 4.5 feet is 2.6 yards and Ecosia only saves 2.4 yards per search, so the exact amount of trees saved is off by a hair.

Anyways, I want to remind everyone who has yet to read my first …

Google, the almighty, non-eco-friendly search engine released Google Buzz, a new type of social network this Tuesday. When I read an article on mashable.com saying that Google claims that there has been 9 million posts and comments since Tuesdays launch, I found it impossible to believe, so I went and did some research.

Google Buzz allows you to connect twitter, Google reader, Youtube, Flickr, Google chat, and Blogspot into your Google Buzz. You're probably thinking "Okay, so I'm able to connect sites into my account, but what does that have to do with this news story?"

Well my friend, at first glance it appears that there isn't a connection whatsoever, but the truth is that they're entirely connected.

Each site that you let Google Buzz connect to is allowed to post into your buzz stream. Google Reader for instance is a good feeding ground for spam, so let's say for that your friend Fred liked some spam and hit the shared button in Google Reader, now that piece of spam is in hisGoogle Buzz stream for all of his friends to see. Now let's say a million people used Google Reader and did the same thing, now we have a million pieces of internet spam being shared across the internet.

Earlier this week I read a very interesting article written by my colleague Davey Winder about the new search engine Ecosia. After reading Davies article, I decided to do some research comparing Ecosia vs. the monster search engine Google. Ecosia claims that one search via Google uses around the same amount of energy as it would take to power one light bulb for an hour.

I found Ecosia’s claims very interesting so I decided to do some research. A non-eco-friendly light bulb usually uses about 60 Watts of energy with that said, if Google received 1000 searches in an hour that would use approximately 60,000 watts of energy.

I find it needless to say that Google probably receives tens of thousands of searches per hour, so what are they doing to counter act their massive use of energy? As far as I know they aren’t doing anything at all, unlike Ecosia the newcomer to the game who donates a big portion of their profits to organizations that help save the rain forest.

I had trouble believing that Ecosia was as good as it sounds until I noticed Bing owned by Microsoft is helping power this new search engine. I don’t think Microsoft would take part in a company that they thought would fail. Actually I’m sure they wouldn’t, I know not many people like Microsoft but you have to admire their business strategies Even if some of them are unethical.

threadid	views

The first line:

Valid point. But by the same token, sharing this type of information can blow up in a persons face if the relationship goes bad and one part of the relationship turns out to be vindictive. From the point of view of an online community manager, having a bad breakup play out in your community (for example, in DaniWeb) could drive some people away. But in the end, your point is just as valid as everyone elses.

It is a very valid point that couples can share email addresses and or accounts. I guess it would have to do with how strong they're relationship is. I'm not for people posting information like leaving for the weekend on twitter because that's available for everyone to see.

Google Ad Sense is when a web site owner opens an account with Google to place advertisement on their web site. When a person clicks this advertisement, the web site owner gets an average commission of .45 cents. A web site that gets a lot of traffic, they can easily make $150,000 per month.

There are message boards claiming to be informing the public about scams being done by companies or individuals. These web sites have individuals working for them for the sole purpose of targeting companies or individuals in order to generate traffic to the web site. This method is artificially generating traffic to the web site, this is FRAUD as outlined by Google. The higher the traffic, the higher the percentage of individuals that will click onto the Google advertisements.

Additionally, Individuals post copy right information about a company on these types of web sites; this is against the policy of the Google Ad Sense program.

If you believe that you are being targeted by individuals on a particular web site; simply click the Ads by Google in the bottom right hand corner of the advertisement on the web site. You will be taken to a Google page, click onto: Report a policy violation regarding the site or ads you just saw

I can see both sides of the fence. Links are very good but if you were to rely only on links you probably would get more spiders than humans. SEO should be looser than most people use it. Search Engine Optimization in my opinion is anything that helps out your website. Writing your site to be SEO friendly is good and bad. If you write your site where it is very user friendly to read and also contains great SEO than way to go! If your Website is purely SEO and made so only a search engine picks up the keywords and isn't human friendly than that's not a good approach at all. SEO can be easy and tricky at the same time. Many online ads nowadays have a social media component to them. It can either be the voting of hands up or hands down on Facebook ads. Or it can be tweeting about a rich media ad. So how do you take this into consideration when you are strategizing for your online ad?

I find this new form of advertizing helpful but incomplete. You can see someone gave you a thumbs down but why? Is it because they hate ads and they want everything ad-free or were they looking for content on your site that they weren't able to find? This is a very puzzling situation indeed so you should take it with a grain of salt. People love to gripe on twitter about everything, and I mean everything! People say stuff on there that they would never say in real life, this is very bad for them but possibly good for us. We know that enough people are seeing our ads to complain about them. When you read complaint after complaint don't take it personally. I know it's hard not to but here's my logic behind my advice. People look at websites think to theirselves "great I got the info I wanted" and than navigate away. The few people that end up on your site and either are your competition or are in a bad mood will go on twitter and say nasty stuff. What you have to remember is that the people who give you the thumbs up went …

We know that there is no standards in measuring web analytics and ad analytics among the various web measuring tools. Despite that, the terminology is almost standard in this industry though. Thus, which metrics and benchmarks do you use to measure? I would start with:
1. unique visitors
2. repeat visitors
3. time spent on site
4. how many comments
5. how many replies
6. how many threads started

What do you think?

Google has a good benchmark system I didn't see this posted here but the best way to see how people like your site is to have them login and than see which pages people view the most, what people do, even comments they post like "I wish this page had (enter wish here) it would make it so much better." Also another good way to see what people think about your site is to check twitter. I know people rant on twitter about websites... and even about twitter. All you would have to do is search for the name of your site and see what people complain about and than if any of the complaints appear to have any useful content or ideas of how you can update your site than try to improve it or put out a beta version that users can use and see what they think.

I know twitter isn't very reliable on somethings but when it comes to looking for complaints twitter is the place …

What is funny is this reminded me of something that happened with my daughter a few months ago. We were watching TV and there was an iPhone commercial and in it the announcer said, "Lost, there's an app for that' and they showed the iPhone with a compass app. My 12 year old daughter turned to me and said, "if you are lost and you have an iPhone why wouldn't you call for help?"

I laughed until I realized that there are some people out there who are so into their gadgets (which I consider Facebook and Twitter to be gadgets) that they totally miss the obvious solution.

That is interesting, I think you may find this interesting though. I go out to the desert frequently. Well I've experienced that sometimes I can't send out a phone call but I can send out texts and sometimes get on the net. I think that being able to text for help to a service like 911 would be really useful for people who end up in areas where all they can send is a text. I'm not sure why texts and internet work when phone calls won't. I am not saying that you should post on your Facebook if your in an emergency you should most definitely call for help but I can also see where you can only send out a text or get to Facebook.

tiger86 16 Posting Pro

If I was in an emergency, I would definitely call 911 (if in Sacramento - though I wonder). I would save my precious minutes on my cell phone making urgent calls than logging on to Facebook and updating my status. Though, on the other side of the coin, look at what happened in Iran. It was the Twitter updates that help post other countries what was going on.
But it was more for reporting rather than asking for immediate help.

I haven't lived in sac town for years so the system may have gotten better or worse-- I hate to say it but I'm betting it got worse since the chief of police announced he gave up against the gangs a couple years back.

Facebook LLC has received a lot of publicity lately, understandably so. I unfortunately, have to say the publicity isn’t positive; in fact it is very negative. Rumors have been spreading throughout the internet about a virus called fan check supposedly infecting Facebook user’s computers with a virus. According to all of the sources I’ve read the fan check virus has yet to be confirmed, it’s currently only a rumor and just like in real life rumors lead to trouble.

PC advisor wrote about how users wanting to find out if the fan check virus is real, are actually catching real viruses. When users read about this virus on social networks, they instinctively go to search engines such as Google to get more information and end up clicking into websites that give them real viruses.
