Vista needs a dedicated graphics chip (at least of the FX5200 level) with 128 MB of dedicated vram to switch on the eye candy. I doubt you can view the aero interface in all it's glory using an onboard chip.

I'll have to agree. Why would you want to plug in your phne cable into your ethernet slot anyway?

You say your display remains blank. Does the BIOS give out any specific sequence of beeps? If yes, either the card or the slot are faulty. Otherwise, check that all connections are tight.

Flash player 8-->107 megs? No offense, but that sounds crazy. The flash plugin is barely a few megabytes in size. You must be downloading some other flash app.

Heating can be an issue if it remains unchecked. What's the temperature of your CPU and / or the system?

Actually, what you're experiencing is perfectly normal. I don't know why, but running any 16 bit task seems to eat up CPU time like crazy. If anyone else can explain why this happens, I'm all ears.

The remaining 128 MB is probably dedicated as VRAM. That means you have an onboard video card and of your 512 MB, 128 is being used exclusively by your Vid card. You can change a few settings in your BIOS and actually reduce the amount of mem the vid card …

Yeah. Seems to me that your hard drive is kaput. You may have to pay for the new HD though, if the system isn't under warranty.

Are you sure you're running the task with proper credentials? XP, as you know, requires a valid username/password to run the taask. I'm not too sure about Win2000, but I assume it's the same there too. Be sure to enter a valid username/password.

Yes. Also, since Windows can't see the drive, you'll need to format the drive thru disk management (start>run, type diskmgmt.msc' and press enter). Choose your new drive, rt click on that and choose "Format". Be sure to select NTFS as the file system.

Louker: When you see the desktop wallpaper, press "Ctrl-Alt-Escape" to launch task manager. Then, click file>new task(run). In the run dialog box, type "explorer" and press enter.

First, scan your system for Viruses and Spyware. Once done, run Windows setup, and choose the upgrade option. This ought to take care of any errors in your XP installation.

Wouldn't this be a problem with Vista replacing the NTFS access permissions on the folder? If yes, well, I'm not too sure about Vista, but here's the procedure to reset CP's access permissions: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread43363.html

If the BIOS flash procedure does not help, I would suggest you take the board to where you bought it from and ask them for a replacement. It seems to me the board is to blame here.

The system always boots from the first active partition, regardless of the number of HDs. I suggest you restart Windows setup and install windows on your first HD. this will take care of that error you're getting.

Generally, all setup routines defaukt the installation to C:\Program Files. But they also give you the option of installing the app in another partition/directory. If you want to permanently move the location of the Program Files directory, use TweakUI for the same.

Actually, it's probable that the voltage surge fried your SMPS/motherboard. You could check the SMPS and the board on another machine to see if they're working.

Frankly, education is the key. Parents need to educate the children about the dangers lurking in every corner of the internet. They should be told in no uncertain terms that giving out personal info online is a strict no-no. Any violation of said rule is grounds for punishment.

Did you check if the board and/or the CPU were overheating? Go to the BIOS and search for something like PC Health. Under this, check your CPU temperatures and post them here.
