get the person with the permission to do it for you!
I formated my PC and I saved my important files in CD,
I think I did it! lol
first let me say ,you need to unzip the zip,not just rename it .
and you may need to covert the jpg to a bmp ,open the jpg and go to file and save as and chose bmp as the file type
using the mouse settings in control panel, you can turn down the double click speed ,and the pointer speed
SP shouldn't matter as you are doing a fresh install!
hi,get cpu-z from this site.install [uncheck theask toolbar during install ]go to the spd tab along the top an d it will give the manufacture name
how would I go about uninstalling sp3 when I formatted using a disk with slipstreamed sp3 on it?
don't bother removing it anyway ,nothing wrong with sp3 ,especially on a fresh install, did you install drivers for you network device ,check in device manager to see if it shows a red or yellow ! ,right click on mycomputer go properties/hardware /device manager
I've tried ipconfig /release and /renew, and that will only reset my LAN connection, obtain ip address again but didn't solve the problem.
As for ipconfig /release all and /renew all, they didn't work and give this reply "the operation failed as no adapter is in the sate permissible for this operation". I have no idea of what does that message mean.
Thanks for replying anyway, any other suggestions?
not totally sure either ,maybe best to reask you oginal question in the network section ,good luck .
I am trying to install Windows 2000 over top of it by just booting from the disk.
did you delete the partition and create a new one then format the drive first ,
? why are you downgrading your OS to 2000, xp is just 2000 made better!
I don't understand why it won't let me boot from the disk
is the hard drive a sata drive or IDE ,if it sata then you are likely having a drivers issue ,as xp or 2000 have no sata drivers for the motherboard so you will need to hit f6 on boot and load them from a floppy disk
I saw that same search result, but at the bottom of teh page it said that program was no longer supported.
i think maybe there are issues because of ie7-8,maybe its not possible or even necessary to run multiple anymore
i,m running windows xp pro, both drives are ultra ATA, it starts to load then a blue screen appeares indicating some problem that could damage the computer. it was suggested i go into device manager and delete the ide ata/atapi master controller, leave primary and secondary ide channels. restart and it will take off, I,m afraid of this, any thoughts on this procedure ? thanks
That might work ,you will likely have to format and re-install winxp first before its going to work for you.you problem is caused by different device drivers from one computer to the other
hi, try command , ipconfig /release all .
then ipconfig /renew all
hi, haven't done this myself but others have !

Knoppix is free!
no disk will be of use to us if we don't know how to use them!
on this site is doesn't look to hard to use the one you have ,you would concern yourself with the "Partition, Format and Clean up Your Hard Drive" section

hi, check post #15 in this link for a program to repair file types .
http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37864
.it keeps the right time when its warm so to speak.?
as long as the computer is plugged into a power source it will hold the bios settings ,even with a dead battery ,battery is only for when you remove the power source
Right caperjack, but I dont think that is the case here as it is usually a random time it comes up with each day, and not the same one which would have to be the case if it revert to manufacture date. And BTW, it never gets 'unplugged', but I do turn off the swich at the power point...this is the same yes?
turning off the switch on the back of the tower is the same as unplugging it .
i have one simple question ,when it changes the time does it also change the date and year !
Even if your pc is un-plugged your board still holds a small amount of charge. You can try this by pressing the power button (while un-plugged) and you will hear the fans spin for a moment.
I
no a correct statement ,the power supply hold the bit of power you are referring to and not the mother board ,and its not enough to power the cmos chip that holds' the bios memory/settings ,and doesn't last ,unplug it and try pushing the power button in a couple of hrs time !
bottom line is this ,if its just the time changing and not the date too then it not a dead bios battery !check you time zone setting as suggested above
if its a dead battery then the date and year will revert back to when the bios was written.if not unplugged, it will keep time date until you unplug computer from power source !if it just time then you have another problem
in safe mode go to stat /al lprograms/accessories/system tools/system restore
i was unbale to make recovery discs, it keeps telling me that i dont have enough spce on my drive,
you need to use at least 2 blank DVD and burn the recovery to them !
I made an assumption i shouldn't have ,when you said new motherboard ,i assumed a CPU to ,my bad ,looks like it may be you CPU
did you try device manager ,network adapter and see if its disable there ,if so enable it and see what happens .
device manger= right click on mycomputer /properties/hardware /device manager
and fan on the power supply is running too.
seen it dozens of times over the years ,run fans but will not run computer
LOL--smarty. I tried a quick search and didn't find it, then realized, "Hey, I bet somebody on this website knows." Anyway, I appreciate your time--thanks!

2) How do I modify the "Open with..." or "Send to..." option on the context menu to always include Notepad.exe?
Thanks,
David
,
found this with google and it worked for me !
send to:
Click Start /run and type,- shell:sendto - (press Enter)
From the File menu, click New, and then click Shortcut.
Follow the instructions in the Create Shortcut Wizard and create a shortcut to C:\Windows\Notepad.exe
i would start with a can of compressed air and blow out all heatsinc and fans', Toshibas' heat up with very little dust on fan and HS,also check the ram.
also this .
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314063&sd=RMVP
dust is a killer of electrical components ,cause some them to over heat and gradually fail ! you can test it with a volt meter or a Power supply test ,swap is your best way if you don't have either.
when you turn on the computer does anything happen ,like fans turn on or keyboard light's turn on ,anything
can someone help,
how do i make the McAfee On-Access Scanner running/Enabled becoz it the play button is on default gray/disabled.

For future reference, here is a pic of where the PC speaker should be connected. The pic is from the online manual for your mobo.
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q228/TootEmCarMan/speakerconnection.jpgSPEAK+ and SPEAK- are the pins it should connect to.
This is what a PC speaker looks like.
Either http://www.clearpc.ca/catalog/images/speaker.JPG or http://www.rainbow-software.org/images/hardware/pc_speaker_burn.jpg (but in better condition).
love that speaker that survived the fire !
agree with above post .!
also where ever you found this out [apparently you can get it to 3.6 without breaking a sweat] should be able to help you overclock yours .one would think.
also check out www.overclockers.com
Thanks everybody,for the help.
but i did it all with a windows me boot disk.CableRat.
no, that amazing
letting you computer run over night is not your problem ,computers can run 24/7 for years!
take the case off the computer ,turn it on any activity at all like fans lights on motherboard ,a power supply can go at any time if it failing ,hows the dust situation inside the case
Yes it is a SATA hard drive
knew it , xp will not see the drive unless you hit f6 when booting to winxp cd and install sata drivers ,some say you can set it to vga mode or something in the bios to get by with out sata drivers.
not all bios have this option but if your dose you can get by with out the f6 option.
set BIOS sata settings to not AHCI, but to IDE emulation.
google and found this .
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/242992-32-hard-disk-error-install-sata
must be Me! the majority of post i reply to never come back ,getting a complex, lol
is it a SATA hard drive perhaps! xp will need sata drivers install first to see drive partition ,as it has none of it own
Have two Thinkpad r50's in front of me. One a victum of BSOD and won't detect the cd drive to reboot from XP disc. Any suggestions for using the good unit to start the bad one?
you could ask it nicely to try and start the other for you ! lol
swap cd drives perhaps
pay more than 40$ for one !
limit cpu from the system solved the problem:-/
please elaborate ,for the greater good of mankind
Now that's just mean... funny but mean :D
Gota new drug, to laid back to care .LOL

and i admit i deserved it ! he /she advised me in another post ,getting lazy i guess !
This is what id like to do,
