Re: There is no sense in trying. External storage on RAM base exists for decades - it's called solid-state-disc and besides special server applications, this technology is now obsolete. Modern solid state FlashROM devices (your USB stick) can be seen as sort of RAM based storage, too. I understood that you …
Re: Might be your system crashes during shutdown, triggering the automatic restart. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery and uncheck the 'automatically restart' checkbox. Now you should be able to see the error message (if any) causing the restart.
Re: I can't see unusual things in your log. "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" is your MSN Messenger. But here O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [THGuard] C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 3.8\THGuard.exe I found a reference to another resident virus scanner. I guess you uninstalled that already since the process is not running. Otherwise uninstall it since 2 of …
Re: Avira Antivir Personal Edition Classic (Another free antivirus software) This is the leading free (for non-commercial, personal use) antivirus software in Europe. It's well-behaved (doesn't clutter up your registry, doesn't nag you) and easy to use. Concerning virus detection rates, it's always on top of the list compared to other …
Re: Which BIOS version do you have on that MoBo? There seems to be an issue with AGP 8x and BIOS versions prior to 1007. Then the chipset drivers should be 4.49 or newer. Was the problem there all the time? If not, what did you change?
Re: I assume you tried to activate the volume control for the system tray in taskbar and got that message? This is a pretty common problem then. In some cases, the Sndvol32.exe application (the mixer) doesn't install. Provided you I got you right and you tried to use the old soundcard …
Re: Digitallocksmith is right - most plastic flexible tubes will pick up lots of static. Touching a chip with that may kill it. Better use compressed air in cans to blow the dust away. AFAIK pulling cards and sticking them back in a running computer is not that good either and …
Re: Is updating necessary? Short version: Yes! Here's the comprehensive version: I perfectly understand what you're talking about: When I installed SP2 the first time I hated it. Performance deteriorated, some things didn't work as expected anymore. Flight Simulator didn't run as smooth as before, that itched me the most. …
Hi everyone, just a bit annoyed by XP? Or do you have rather good experience with it? This one serves both: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLxP3V4veJk Many artists and home studio owners have been playing around with "Microsoft Sam" in the past. In this one, this gets some purpose: Sam singing about XP. Not …
Re: Sorry, I'm not Linux-savvy, but I guess it has to do with the partitions Linux created. Windows can't format a Linux partition - you'll have to re-partition the disk first. At least one partition must be NTFS and marked as 'active' to be able to format and install XP on …
Re: I'm afraid your problem cannot be solved that easy... 1. Mouse hesitations can have a bunch of reasons, including hardware conflicts or interfering programs. Your second screenshot shows quite a lot of running stuff on your computer. 2. On top of the list I found "AOLSoftware.exe". This could have been …
Re: If nothing can delete it and considering the messages of the programs you tried, I have a feeling that the file is probably plain and simple damaged. Try to repair it (run CHKDSK /F or /R) and then try again to delete it.
Re: 1. If your computer was good yesterday, why should it be bad today? :cheesy: 2. Installing a complete new heatsink/fan system can be tricky, so I recommend 3. Buy a new 70mm fan, like these http://www.hardwarecooling.com/default.php/cat/48_79/70mm_Fan and mount it on the old heatsink. (good chance to clean it a bit) …
Re: Hello my dear colleague from the egg slicer faction: :cheesy: This is a hard one - one of those cases where Google spits out similar questions and (if at all) useless answers only, and even the MS-KB fails miserably. 1. Event Viewer is a very good idea. Anything found? 2. …

Re: What Chaky ;) said plus: Check the GPU temperature. If you use the new nVidia Control Panel, you can leave the temp. monitoring page open to see the graph, then start gaming but try to Alt-Tab to the monitoring page before the computer freezes. Back story: These GPUs change their …
Re: Is your BIOS up-to-date? http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=613&kind=1 This BIOS version (B5) seems to introduce support for later Barton CPUs, so if yours is older I can imagine why it won't recognize your CPU correctly. I guess this can have some other sideeffects then, including restarts.

Re:
and the fan was making a loud droning noise.
Which fan? Problems like yours are often caused by overheating issues. Check the CPU and environment temperature in the BIOS. Droning fans on CPU heatsinks are a bad thing because a overheating CPU can catch up damage easily. Failing case fans …
Re: Your "butcher" might have fried the mainboard (static), but this sounds unlikely when your RAID and non-RAID controllers are actually different chips and not combined in the same one (don't know). A good thing would be to interrogate him what exactly he tried to do with your computer and for …
Re: Hi, I'm not a "pro", but: Looks like a pretty good selection. The only problem is the PSU - 350W is most likely too weak for that hardware now and any later upgrade, maybe on the graphics card will render it useless. Also, don't look for the watts, choose a …
Re: You can never say this with certainty from a distance, especially with no information about the computer at all, but let me cite Dr. "Bones" McCoy: "It's dead, Jim". (Either the card or some stuff around it) Do you have the little case speaker connected? Then you should hear a …
Re: "Dying PSU fries mobo" - this happens all the time and you're right I'm afraid. If there is no POST (no beeps? The tiny case speaker connected?) and you even tried without graphics card, I assume it's dead. Try to run the board alone without RAM and video if it's …
Re: Provided you checked the monitor's function with another computer: Sounds pretty much like a faulty graphics card or it's not sitting tight in the slot. But we know nothing about your computer and maybe you've got onboard video. But that chip could fail, too. Does already the BIOS screen jump …
Re: I would try nForce4. 'PC3200' refers to a Front Side Bus speed of 200MHz and is not related to 'DDR2', which can be translated to "dual-dual data rate", that means the "virtual" data rate is 4x the FSB.
Re: I agree with the previous recommendations and: I *ever* had trouble with no-name RAM, except the last time I bought some (I'm not learning from mistakes :cheesy:). But if you upgrade RAM, you probably have to reset the BIOS once to make it work. Sometimes it works without, sometimes scary …
Re: General advice: For your applications, signal (=image) quality is the most important criteria when choosing a card. Spikey signals, bad RAMDACs, slow signal rise times and so on are pretty widespread, rendering images blurry and making color calibration useless. Unfortunately, this is roughly tested in most reviews (they mostly mean …
Re: @sos: I don't know much about this but I remember having seen some common reasons for that are 1.) max number of connections (browser) 2.) max number of connections (TCPIP.SYS) (is yours patched?) or 3.) wrong MTU and I just saw 4.) broken user CSS (whatever that means)
Re: This is a known problem with the icon cache. Extensive description and several solutions can be found here: http://groups.google.com/group/alt.sys.pc-clone.dell/browse_thread/thread/5108ded9c74a5fd6/f1a04d2c4581b891%23f1a04d2c4581b891 In summary, deleting the icon cache and enlarging it through registry hack solves the problem.
Re: Even though there is some confusion about emulated pixel shaders in openGL games - pixel and vertex shaders are hardware functions. They have to be supported by the GPU and most games don't support emulated ones. This is mostly because the performance would suffer beyond usability. Loading the CPU with …

Re: The prices for a X800pro or Geforce 7600GS are not much higher (+ 10 Pounds) ) and they are the current much recommended entry level cards with a half-decent performance. But the older x1600 is not that much slower (approx. on GF6600GT-level) and would help with the mentioned games for …
Re: Many webcams come with a build-in microphone and a pretty bad driver to operate it. It shouldn't knock out your normal playback and just get the MME "recording line" for the mic (which is bad enough if you use a headset frequently), but sometimes it appears to the system as …
Re:
[...]even got instructions from Symantec website on how to remove it through the registry, and not everything it said to delete was there.
I just tried to have a look at these instructions and I was not able to get this specific information for AV2002PE for XP on their website. …
Re: Does not sound good, sorry.. There is a tiny chance that the color settings for this monitor output are all wrong, if you're unaware that image adjustment is independent for each monitor in the driver menu. (This is not very obvious, since you have to select/mark one of the two …
Re: Sorry, I don't know much about Norton Ghost, i.e. "Does it transfer bootsectors correctly". If yes, I guess it won't copy a partition table from one drive to another. Then this could have happened: The SCSI drive has a working bootsector *and* the boot partition is set to "active" - …
Re: Depends on your BIOS manufacturer. Your beep sequence could be AMI: 3x short = Base 64k memory failure. Check if your mem modules are sitting tight and contacts are clean. 2x short = Parity error / generic 'POST failed' message Award: Doesn't fit.
Re: Your Forceware driver version and mainboard model would be important informations. You also didn't mention if your graphics card is an AGP or PCI-E type. Beyond all driver and hardware related issues that might be the reason for your troubles, if you have an AGP mainboard (I guess): A common …
Re: The only (theoretical) way to improve the sound output further is to buy a professional audio card with pro-level D/A converters. Provided your hifi is at that level, too and the program (your music) is recorded at the same level (no MP3! ;)), you could gain some quality with that. …
Re: Congratulations, DMR! :cheesy: Here's what I wrote to someone a couple of weeks ago: I'm impressed by the friendly and direct style there. No one seems to waste time by punishing others for their mistakes or lack of knowledge before offering some help. Recently I found a help request "piggybacked" …

Re:
I'm on the verge of jsut paying Geek Squad $200 just to fix this issue. I don't even know what it really is besides it being either my RAM, CPU, or power supply.
Ok, before you spent 200 bucks you can try some harmless things: Since Windows bails out during …
Re: "Beta" on Asus BIOS files doesn't mean the same as in "beta software": It just indicates that the core BIOS isn't fully tested again. That's why many last Asus BIOS images for a product still wear that "beta" label. You can compare it better to the "hotfixes" MS releases. Adding …
Re:
So is there a problem with my Module or have I just not installed it correctly?
There is a minimal chance that you didn't insert it properly (dirt on the slot contacts), but most likely the the mem chip configuration on the module doesn't match the capabilities of your motherboard/chipset. …
Re: Hi Niklas, you seem to have a typical "Intcodec" infection. This is not only distributed by fake porn sites, making visitors believe that they need a special video codec to view porn movies but it's also reported that it popped up during Quicktime updates and on video sites or alike. …
Re: Congratulations! You are #2 with "Virusburst" here today and when #1 posted about this here a few hours ago, Google didn't have any clues yet. This is the newest "product" of the "SpywareQuake" family and I guesstimate that it has been released 48 hours ago or less. Your log seems …
Re: When you start HJT the first time, a "new users quickstart" screen appears, the first button will be "do a system scan and save a log file". If you use this, the log file will automatically saved into the same folder where the HijackThis.exe is located and it will be …
