Congress is debating an Energy bill, and one of the measures of that bill is to lengthen Daylight Savings Time about a month. For those who may be outside of the US, or places along the equator, there are some countries that change their time clocks to take advantage of more sunlight during the local summer months. In the United States, we change our clocks at the first Sunday in April, and again at the last Sunday in October. In April, we move our clocks ahead one hour (Spring Ahead), and in October, we move them back (Fall Back). By …

In response to the moaning and groaning of book publishers, the world’s favorite search engine announced it won’t be scanning copyrighted books for a while. Last October, Google announced that it had launched its “Google Print" program. The program entails scanning books, and making their content searchable. For publishers, Google says, it’s a great way to promote their books, even if they are out of print. And for libraries, it’s a great way to allow more people to access their materials. Not everybody shares the rainbow colored enthusiasm Google always seems to have. It seems that some publishers are upset …

Today, Yahoo! introduced their new Publisher Network, a "new self-serve platform that will provide small- and medium-sized web publishers with easy access to yahoo! advertising and content." In other words, it's a direct alternative to Google AdSense. The program, which the webmaster community initially caught wind of nearly a year ago, is currently invitation only. It's a program that I would love to participate in, if I could ;) Unfortunately, I don't have much more information to share at the moment. Are you listening, Yahoo?!

The return to space by the United States’ aeronautics and space administration shuttle program this week was a certainly popular event, shattering records for the number of visitors viewing video streams of NASA TV during the launch. In comparison, the Deep Impact mission on July 4 mustered 118,000 streams, and during the Mars exploration rover landings in January, just under 50,000 visitors watched. "We've always known there was tremendous global interest in the U.S. space program, and this …

One of Google’s most promising features is its brand new global mapping software, dubbed Google Maps. New API access is taking it to the next level. The web-based interface to Google Maps allows users to perform powerful mapping functions – locating points, creating driving directions, viewing aerial photographs, and even combining aerial photographs with streets in a hybrid view. But it isn’t these functions that truly show off the power of Google’s technology. In June 2005, Google made available a developer toolkit, allowing 3rd party users the ability to directly interact with the powerful mapping engine. ## Extremely Flexible Developers …
