bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

try another restore point. go back as far as last month seeing that you do not have the cd to do a repair install you have to keep trying different restore points.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

you reinstall vista

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

your laptop went into hibernation and cannot wake up. try starting in safe mode and go to control panel, power management and turn off hibernation. then restore you pc to yesterday.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

in safe mode try restoring to a previous date. check the dates and it will tell you what type of restore it is either a system check pint or a manual one that you created.
NOTE when you restore to any date stuff that you did after that date will be lost so if you create a document yesterday and you restore to last Friday you will loose that document unless you create a back up of that document somewhere else other that on the drive your are restoring.

LOL, you can experiment with different channels to make sure you are getting a strong signal from the router. You know those bars that show how strong your wireless signal is. when you change the channel watch those bars

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

change the channel your wireless operate on. you would have to log into the router to get this done. this means that his wireless is operating at a higher frequency and on the same channel as yours.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

not maybe, you are correct. the slot that the card goes into is bad. try using another slot on the mother board. even if you have to remove some other card. you also need to check in the bios if anything was changed (disabled nic slot)

your pc is probable overheating and shuts down to protect itself. check the CPU and verify that the thermal grease is ok and the fan on the heat sink is is operational.

Did you install any new program or hardware recently. and what was it.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

ok so you brother infected you pc. Restoring to a previous point will not help, the system volume is one of the main areas affected with worms and viruses. so when you do a restore you still have the same problem.you need to run a few programs to get this fix. (the super experts on this will help you further) as for the virus program that you installed AFTER the infection, will not do much good..
turn of system restore
down load and run these programs.
CClean
trojan Hunter

then use AVg free to scan then use an online scanner kapersky or panda

Thanks for the reply i concenterated on reseating it and it started but again it was taking ages at the xp logo ,but after staying on when i switched it off again it wont start just the fan and no boot beep no display obviously, upon investigation i have found that one silver group of huge pins projceting is bend but it has got nothing to do with the processor (as far as i know)its like nails projecting out abt 110 silver pins.pls help me and i really appreciate ur previous reply ,
the questions is that the plastic stud kind of things that settle down the fan are broken so it is not getting properly fixed in the m.b,do u think that wld make any difference plus after taking off the fan found that thermal grease is like how boiling water gets vapoury kindof.
pls help
thanks

what are you talking about ( see item in red) what pins are those. the thermal grease is use to dissipate the heat between the heatsink and the CPU, no vapor thats bad for a CPU, do you see vapor buildup on the cpu.? is the heatsink firmly latch into place.

Hellou dear experts,
My problem is quiet simmilar to others but i have been unable to find a satisfactory answer to that ,I have regreased my pentium 4 3.o ghz machine after 4 years of operation after fixing back the fan on the chip<<< are you sure u did not bend a pin when i rebooted the system it was taking unusually long at the windows xp logo while before that it used to boot in abt 35 sec,<< How many Hard disk do you have in the pc do you have external onesafter that it became a pain to stART THE SYSTEM NUMEROUS TIMES I HAD TO REBOOT THEN OUT OF ITS OWN WILL IT WLD REBOOT SOMETIME AND THEN NOW IT IS NT BOOTING AT ALL ONLY THE FAN IS RUNING POWER SUPPLY AND ADDL FAN INSTALLED THE SYSTEM IS D915 GAV WITH COMPONENTS THAT ARE VERY DIFFERENT LIKE SEAGATE HDD AND ASUS CD ROM BUT HAVENT GOT ANY PROBLEM BEFORE ANY HELP WLD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Take note of items in red. ensure you reseat the CPU properly and non of the pins are bent out of shape. as for the long boot that eventually lead to NO boot check the hard drive in another computer. maybe drive head is damaged. do you have any USB device attached to the pc when it tries to boot ( devices like an IPOD)

I am new here and not a tech person so I hope it is okay to post here. I'm not sure everything is related but thought the details might help figure out what might be wrong.

I own a HP a420n running Windows XP. I have had it for a few years without problems. A few weeks ago the monitor would shut off intermittently. I thought these were strange flukes and I could get it to come back on by shutting down my computer by holding in the power button on the cpu tower, then restarting the whole system. (I first kept trying to hit the power button on the monitor and if I recall at the beginning of this it sometimes worked.)

I usually leave my computer on and one day my husband called me at work to ask why my computer screen was all green. I didn't know and told him to shut down the system. When I got home I had no trouble and again tried to not worry about it. However, the shut downs became more frequent and hitting the power button on the monitor no longer worked at all.

So I figured my monitor had died and went out and bought a new one. A lovely HP w2007. I was assured I didn't need anything else and went home to hook it up. I couldn't get the resolution as high as it would go. (Also, since the system had been running quite slowly even before …

if you want legal downlaod and you are willing to pay i suggest you go to ligitimate sites, Sony, Walmart, Amazon. as for using P2P program you will get a wider variety but you run the risk of being exposed. to just about anything, do as caperjack suggest. get good Av program and Antispyware, trojan hunter, there is not individual program designed just to scan music file to let you know if it's a virus ( maybe i don't know) buy a program like Avast antivirus will scann any file in any format even if it's compress in any format, RAr ZIP, ISO, MP3 just about any thing is dig into and scanned.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING but, I give up....I ordered a new install disk from microsoft to install on the laptop, they say that it will fix the problem!! I am crossing my fingers!!
I was wondering if you could help me with another problem on my main computer though? It will not allow me to open or install Adobe reader! There are not even any pictures when I go to that site, and there are missing pictures on a lot of sites that I go to....any suggestions???

Are you the administrator on the PC. you MUST have administrator privilege to install Adobe.
As for the picture on the site you need to get the flash player . link in previous post

while Vhex has a point, i believe you might have made things worst by doing the restore boot record while the drive was in another PC. what you should have done is use your windows cd to restore the MBR. If you are able to back up the data why not have windows format the drive.

Hello. This is my first post here and from what I have seen, this is the best site when in need of PC help. I have 2 PC's that are not working and I cant figure out why. The first one is a PC I have had for a while and upgraded multiple times. I had a case that was broken, so i moved everything out and installed it into a new case. The only thing I changed was I switched my 7900GT out with an 8800GTS. I also changed the Heat sink and fan from an AMD stock one to an aftermarket one. After connecting everything, checking it, I plugged the PSU in and tried to start the pc, but nothing happened. The green light on the motherboard is on and the Ethernet cable is flashing orange, but the HDD, fans, etc. are not responding. I tried using the switch from my old case and nothing worked. I put my old graphics card in and my old heat sink in and still nothing.......

The second PC, which is one I am building for my wife, will turn on just fine, however it sends no signal to the monitor. I tried using the VGA on the motherboard and using the 7900GT DVI. Neither produce an image on my monitor and I dont know what to do.

Thank you guys a lot....you are a huge help and I am sure your guidance will help me through my PC tough times.

Thank you for trying to help!!!!
This is a micron.pc and says TransPort Trek2 on it.
When i start it up it just says operating system not found.

I have to hit cntrl alt delete to get it to the micron.pc screen then hit cntrl esc to get to the Boot Menu. Then I have options: Removable Devices, ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive, Hard Drive, and enter setup. I have tried to switch the order of these, and nothing seems to help.

If I hit enter setup, then it sends me to PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility. Then I have headers that say main, advanced, security, power, boot, and exit.

I BELIEVE that I have an XP install disk...but I copied it following directions from the internet from another posting that I read

This computer when we got it was windows xp. My main computer is windows xp, but it is an emachines computer and windows xp was on the start up system disk, so that wont work either (I tried). I also have HP Recovery disks that won't work....

Any ideas? Besides shooting it? LOL

base on the above text in red IS the CD BOOTABLE. just copying files to a CD does not make it bootable. If this was an ISO,IMG or NRG file it would ahve to be preloaded with boot files. HERE is the kicker if you just copy the file to the CD (EVEN it's a bootable file) the cd will not …

SCSI is used in server for a couple of reasons
they use less CPU power and you can use up to 16 on one card. hence the mass storage you get with a server. Not saying that SCSI is by far faster than SATA because in some test sata will out perform a SCSI disk. but in a sata server you would not find as many drive. However the capacity in term of space could be the same.

And yes Older Server will definitely have SCSI and Newer ones still do for the reason listed above. SATA server ARE and MOST like to be configured in any raid array depending on the amount of disk that are installed.

As for using SCSI on a PIII it is possible, you would have to get a SCSI card to install on the board, ( and this is what you would need to figure out) can you board hold the card)

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

you need to investigate what is this other.exe what program is that associated with. Also run a virus, malware and adware scanner.

plug the ethernet cable from the printer to the switch, it shold get an ip address. then on each computer you have to get the drivers for the printer add a new local printer.(remove check mark to check for Plug and Play) click next and choose the second option to create a port and use standard tcp/ip then follow the prompts and add the ip address that is given to the printer from the switch.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

First of all scsi was designed for MAC, when they reffer to to supporting up to 16 devices they are referring to ZIp drive, Cdrom, Scanner, hard drive and so on, all chained together. internally or external. for example you have a scsi port with a scanner connected you would connect the cdrom to the scanner and the zip drive to the cd rom. and at the same time a ribbon from the card to you internal components ( hard drive). so basically one device is physically connected to the scsi port. and the rest are chained through each other. and each device MUST be given an ID number. This can only be done with wide scsi for anything over 8 devices.

Lesson 1
Whenever you change certain Hardware on a PC you have to do a Clean install. items like Moboard. CPU. Windows will NOT recognized the new hardware. unless you reinstall the operating system

as for the sound not working on the old configuration you are missing a jumper check if there is a jumper setting for the moboard to enable the sound. also in system properties are any sound device showing a red X or yellow circle with black exclamation sign or a yellow question sign.
